I was literally searching for this, to see if it existed, after watching another fellow's g-scale wing plow in action in his garden. This is wonderful work!
@Veeter998 жыл бұрын
So cool. And the soundtrack of the real locos really takes it to the next level. I'm sure the engineer didn't appreciate it when he saw you break out that shovel so you could make him do it all over again.

I was watching video of an actual rotary and wondered if a scale model would even work and what could be used for artificial snow to make it work. I was actually wondering what you used for a couple of minutes until I realized in amazement that it was real snow on your deck. Amazing. Now you just need a track layout that will keep your driveway clear.

To be fair, G scale models are quite large. Just one of those big main-line diesels in G scale can be up to 2 feet in length and weigh several pounds. Rolling stock is almost always fully functional and and locomotives are capable of pulling significantly heavier loads relative to their size compared to smaller scales.
@VestedUTuberАй бұрын
@@lilroc2168 Nah, if anything it's probably got an RS-775 drill motor in there.
@rides8008 жыл бұрын
To answer a few questions, this was just a test I wanted to do quickly to see how well the blower could handle the snow. I simply set down the track on our deck before expected snow accumulation. Blower worked better then expected, issues were due to the tight curves which caused loss of traction on the drive wheels of the pushers. Lead weights were added to increase grip. Future runs will be on a layout with more prototypical curves and heavier pushers. Blower should run without too much pausing then. Thanks for watching.

This is the coolest model I have seen in a LONG time ! I also just got done watching about 20 videos of real rotary plows at work , so seeing a model run like this is just jaw dropping :) shared it on FB even , Great job & thanks for the upload . Big fan in Michigan , and as for the folks questioning - the real ones bog down the same way .
@matthoughton40478 жыл бұрын
If other real life rotary snow plows performed like this one, it would throw snow 1,000 yards away from itself. You need to get a hold of the railroads and tell them that they've been building them wrong the entire time haha. Excellent work.
@jonmyers804628 күн бұрын
Agreed, I was just watching videos on the real thing and they don't throw nearly as far in terms of scale. Obviously yours spools up to a higher speed, but when you think about it, the snowflakes are ginourmous at that scale and you need the extra power.

Nicely done that was some seriously deep scale snow. Though I doubt the snow team thanked the shovel god for making them do it all over again. Certainly the blower looks scarily powerful, as you said the curves were the bigger problem.

No problems with overheating. I used a 2:1 gear reduction unit behind the blade to manage torque and load on the blade. It will run full speed until battery dies but I vary the speed for snow depth.
@TeapotLive8 жыл бұрын
Why battery powered? and how are the blades controlled?
@rides8008 жыл бұрын
+Teapot Live Battery doesnt rely on track contacts so no interruptions. A simple rc car speed controller and rx/ tx set up controls the blade. Remove the spring on the throttle control so you dont need to hold it at a certain spot.
