Nice, I was looking for this! Wanted to go for the S16 for the WASD position and low profile switches, but still had doubts. Seeing them side by side helped a lot!

Competitive wise Low profile wins overall, shorter actuation means faster inputs. Hence new mechanical keyboards with Rapid Trigger and hall effect are taking over gaming market, Osu and FPS enthusaists switching to it, also Low Profiles are closest to OG Arcade buttons like OBSF etc. They actually made a good decission switching to low profile, for example Razer Kitsune is using lolw profile lazer switches (fast input). Also sliding is much easier on S16.

To each there own my friend. I only wish the buttons were as large as the s16 but with the same profile. Might end up getting an enclosure that fits Japanese buttons.

Hey! I do not play any 360 characters Tekken doesn't really have that motion. If you need to slide, I would def go with the s16. I can't imagine how that would work on the g16.

Managed to grab the T16 since I feel like the G and S series would be a bit too small, but hell, it feels it would be good to grab one of those for just traveling purposes. Also gotta love the little mixup at 18:22

Totally up to you. You can turn the extra buttons off if you want and still get the extra buttons to leave yourself the option of using them down the line.

Great video! I do have a question though. Is there a noticable distance in button travel between the two? It looks like G16 has longer and S16 shorter, but I wonder how noticeable it is when using them

Travel is definitely different. Shorter on the S16 as you said. But is it so much of a difference that it would effect performance in a major way? I do not think so. But if you are a perfectionist and want the faster device, it will probably be the S16. I just personally don't think it's by very much.

Any normal MX switches will fit as long as they aren't low profile.

Thanks for the video first of all! I got g16 too and have a question - button caps pop off if I scratch edges quickly for KBD. Do you know a way around it? Different caps?

Yes that happens on mine as well. It's a known thing. You can use different caps. Uusing different switches helped a littled as well so if you plan on changing the switches anyway, hold off and see if the caps still pop off after the change. If they still do, then you can change the keycaps.

@@Realyst received the caps now, PWS/Stove-top Style. They pop off just the same 😄. Blue color looks nicer than default transparent ones though. What I also tried is to put these caps on my keyboard MX Cherry Red switches and do same fast scratching - they stay in place. Also when taking them off Cherry Red I can feel like they sit tighter, while on G16 default switches caps slide off easily. So, maybe eventually I'll switch the switches on G16.

No you cannot. There are some mid height switches you can put on the g16, but they still will not be as flat as the true low profiles like what's on the S16.

I got a G16 a few days ago and was contemplating if I should buy silent switches..... After that comparison yeah... I will keep it as it is. Maybe it was just really quiet but those silent switches barely make a difference.

Yea it's a little bit quieter, but not much. I think it's the nature of the keycaps and switches together. Might not be possible to quiet them down without pressing them lighter.

I know you said you don't use Aliexpress, but I found some great upgrades for my G16 there for cheap. So, if you or people in the comments are interested here it is: 1) PWS/Stove-top Style caps have more rounded edges and a tiny bit lower height. Color selection is great. 2) OUTEMU Half Height Dwarf GTMX Red switches are fantastic, much more enjoyable and also allow for sliding techniques. Also, caps don't pop off with these switches. And they make the buttons sit much lower. When fully pressed down, the cap is almost level with surface of G16, maybe 1 mm above.

Due to the WASD layout you can play shootemup and any arcade game with ease on these like a normal arcade stick. Can't really do that with hitbox layouts.

@@Atomic-Punk Had the same question myself and what I did was to download the top down image of both on my phone, zoom for the irl size and position my fingers on the WASD, just to get the position they would be and see if it'd be comfortable or not
