Here I get two G2 Firebox stoves burning wood to cook Sagebrush Biscuits & Gravy. One for baking the biscuits in a horizontal Zebra Loop Handle Pot and the other to make the gravy in the extra pan that comes with the Zebra bush pot using an Olicamp pot lifter as a handle. I also use a titanium utensil set from Toaks Outdoors.

There is nothing wrong with the way you made your Roux. But an easier way is to simply brown your sausage then sprinkle some flour on your sausage and drippings and stir until the flour has disappeared. then simply add some milk or cream and stir until it's as thick as you want.

That's the way my granny showed me only takes a teaspoon of flour I just eyeball it I like brown gravy so I let it brown then just dump about two cups of milk 😋. Also she made her biscuits with Crisco and in my opinion it makes the best biscuits hands down.

I know somebody once told me to add all the milk at once, but really, just add a little at a time, stirring it all the while. It helps avoid lumpiness when you work the roux & the milk together gradually.

Quite right, @Belford Lancaster, but seeing him make it kicked my OCD into OD. My late grandmother would've probably smacked his hand with a wooden spoon had she saw that clumpy mess. Also, you add the liquid slowly, then remove the pan from the fire when it has thickened.

@@goose4342 Yup, mine used Crisco, as well. I just wish I would have asked her to teach me how to make chicken and dumplings, cause my mom could never get em right, even though grandma taught her how.

We have a success story! Fresh-baked coffee cake with Jiva coffee in the woods. Some learning curve items though. First, don't overfill the cake pan with batter! Cake batter does not cook well on the thermal mass rocks, and makes you knock your coals off the top of the oven when you end up yanking the oven door open because you don't know that it is baking spilled dough in the rim of the lid! Lesson #2. Our most prevalent firewood, Alder, does not make long lasting enough coals to bake with. I was using two stoves to keep a supply of coals coming, and had a very hard time of it. I want to find a source for good mesquite charcoal as you use in your baking. But it worked! And it was delicious. Next up, a loaf of bread next weekend. And we need to buy a few more of your accessories for the system. We'll order up next payday (we're retirees and get paid only monthly) and expand this system and get more practice with it. Can't wait to surprise the grand kids!

I loved hearing about this. Thank you for sharing. The whole idea to it all is learning how to do it and perfecting it while having fun. You are doing great and the next time will be even better. You have to learn to use your resources as well, the wood here in Utah is different then where you are at, so we find what works and make great memories. Your grand kids will enjoy this with you. I make my gravy completely backwards from the way you did it. I always add my milk to the Rue. biscuits sure did look good i make them in a cast iron pot on top of a wood burning stove.

Heck. Yes. You got a new subscriber. And a new customer as soon as I can scrape together both the dough (it's more scarce than biscuit dough) and the support of the lady to add another stove to my (what seems to be becoming) collection! The surprise sledding bit at the end had me rolling! Good stuff man.
