It seems that going up one or two sizes on the compressor wheel doesn't mean much in terms of additional mass and inertia on the entire CHRA assembly. The larger compressor wheel on the 900 must spin slightly slower than the smaller one when given the same exhaust gas flow or rpm, but it would flow a lot more air than a 660 at the same compressor wheel rpm so yeah sorta explains why it makes more boost at 3k rpm. I wonder what impact a smaller or larger turbine would have when you keep the compressor side and rear housing the same. Like a G30 900 vs a G35 900. G30 and G35 rear housings have the same volute dimensions, so the only real difference between them would be the turbine wheel, and inlet bore on the rear housing.

Yes to all of that. I havent seen and back to back g30 900 and g35 900. The best ive seen is a g35 900 being laggier then g35 1050 on a was on a 3.5L 350z car.

Exactly this, very nice comment and reflection. I have been researching alot on the web lately about this. And from what I can find, it seems sometimes that a larger turbine wheel will help create less back pressure and increase spool actually, not in all cases ofcourse, but in some, and for this N54 engine. There is alot of exhaust gasses going into that turbo from the N54 engine, and if it is not evacuated fast enough, it will be a choke point for spool and probably some power. Would have been nice to see a G30 900 vs G35 900, as the turbine inducer is 60mm and exducer 55mm on the G30-900 vs the G35-900 has turbine inducer 62mm and 68mm exducer. This was shown in a forum somewhere, spoolstreet or something, where I found some facts about the Garrett GTX 3076R gen 2 (a turbo equal in size with G30-770) and the Garrett GTX3576R gen 2 (a turbo equal in size with G35-770), and shown that the Garrett GTX 3576R gen 2 outperformed the 3076R because of the larger size on the turbine side, helping it create faster spool and more power. They had same AR on housing. Nice videos btw on this, thanks for sharing.
