I bought the G466 just like that one. As Joe mentioned, I replaced the tensioner right out of the box, and since the recoil handles are known problems, tossed an OEM on. Ran a couple tanks of 25:1 and then leaned back to 32:1... then adjusted the carb - really livened it up. I don't make a living with my saw, $1500 for a 76cc just doesn't fit the budget. $320 got me in the game, and I fully plan to use it as an educational tool as much as a saw.

@@matthewotis3594 I'd hate to run a saw and only have a turd of questionable quality as a backup. I keep 7 saws + latest project in my van and work with others 80% of the time, 95% of the time within 45min of home so my original comment was more of a thought experiment.

I always prefer oem saws even an older one. But for the price of the big saws even blown up you can get a clone for cheaper. Was looking for a 90 cc Husky. Found one in a box in pieces for $750 and I picked up a G288 for $400 delivered to my door. I only use it for big stumps and milling. Does the trick. Cheers

I’d like to see the numbers once the blue saw is broke in. My g466 seemed to pull much better after 4 or 5 tanks run through it. I have a couple big trees that had to come down and I didn’t see the reason to spend the money on an oem saw that I wont use much. I haven’t had any issues so far with it but Ive only run about 10 tanks of fuel through it.

My opinion on the aftermarket saws is they are great after you fix all the issues. Every one I have gotten has had little issues out of the box but after a few times out cutting things stop breaking and they become reliable.

As a cheap skate I love my G366 the MS360 clone. Starts quickly compared to many other chainsaws I have run before, cuts and hasn’t failed me yet after 25-30 tanks of fuel, I feel like the value I got at less than a 1/3 of the price of the OEM saw is off the charts.

Great video and comparison. It was nice to see facts and numbers. I’ve got a G660 that I’ve built from a parts kit and I did have a few issues, but once I got past those it’s been a great running saw though I suspect it won’t compare to an OEM. It’d be cool to see you revisit this after the blue saw is broke in.

If I was going to be falling timber full time I would buy oem. For cutting firewood or occasional use. The clone saw will get the work accomplished just fine The other factor between these 2 saws tested. The 046 was broke in. The G466 was new. My G660 set in at around 4, 4.5 gallons of fuel run through it. Noticable increase in power once it set in. Pulling 105 drivers of 3/8 full comp chisel chain.

Nice comparison Joe! I look forward to seeing what you build out of the G466. I own a pair of 046 Artic saws that my Dad logged with since new , I have put alot of hours on them since 2010, I would have to say that if one were to find a low hour 046 and maintain it well it would probably last their lifetime, and go up in value too, something to consider when comparing price. From the first MS460 with flippy caps to the current crop of Stihl pro saws with flippy caps that I own and cut timber with there has been a 100% guarantee: They have all leaked! Both the gas and oil. I wish Stihl would revise these, no matter how diligent I am with cleaning them out every day they have rewarded me with a leak. I have had Zero issues with the caps on my Husqvarna saws....

Its important to incorporate the dino and the carb tune, if you want to compare apple to apple. If the carb isn't tuned right it will give a false result, so you should use the dino to tune the carb, especially the H which is the working high speed dial.

I used AM cylinders to learn how to do port work back in the mid 2000's when Baileys started selling the big bore kits. Did a couple, got gains, but not near as much as I could get from an OEM cylinder. They did serve a great purpose of being a cheap cylinder to practice grinding on.

You do good work Joe! very fair review. I’m still trying to figure out how I do feel about these clone saws. I love OEM stuff. I guess it’s the consistency for me. My one big sore spot is the fact that original manufactures can’t produce those souls anymore because they don’t meet EPA standards, but China can build them and sell them here all day long and they’re not held to the same standard. Can I get a amen.

I have the Holzfforma G372 Husky clone and it’s my go-to saw. Took awhile to get the carb dialed in and the chain tensioner is not the greatest. I had a Husky bar and chain lying around and got this saw already assembled for like 180 bucks with free delivery. Wish I’d gotten two. Don’t worry though. I have a Stihl 461 as a backup. I would love to see you run about a dozen tanks of fuel through the blue saw and get the carb and air filter right. Then do the dyno. Bet it posts significant gains as my clone saw did. Great video. 👍

Nice comparison. The blue saw should have a warranty. Also it looks brand new and is not broken in yet. Do you think the numbers will improve while the rings seat. I think they will. I think Tinman recently checked timing numbers from several aftermarket cylinders and compared to a stock Husqvarna cylinder. The Holtzforma had the closest numbers and was nearly identical to OEM. The quality of the Holtzforma cylinder is unknown how long it will last.

Hey Joe, I've had my g466 for two years. I totally notice that once after initial carb tune and about 4-5 tanks then retune one the carb the saw seemed to run like a beast and maybe an old saw thats been way broke in against one not is not really a good test. Not that I'm partial to the clone as I would grab a standard stihl any day of the week. However I would like to see the dyno test after the clone was broken in and at least 4-5 tanks and a tune on the carb after would give a better result and see how it compares. BTW Thanks for the video- lil late in seeing it but again it will give some one better judgment to understand dynamics of power in a saw.

@@dynojoemods2764 so if the g466 gained 4% it would have pulled approximately 5.86hp. And likely pulled better a touch higher it the rpm range as well. That makes the gap between them a lot closer. If you end up with the opportunity, that could be an interesting future comparison. It levels the playing field a bit too.

@@dynojoemods2764 it would then mean the 046 only made 2.3% more power instead of 6.4% more. The g466 seems to be one of their more well made clones in general from the videos I have seen. The g444 that you ran actually pulled BETTER power numbers than this broken in 046 mag.

This is more of what I would expect from a new saw and a well tuned saw? The clones are definitely not for the user who isn't familiar with some basic mechanical skills and tuning abilities. The current price of a used 046 is absolutely ridiculous though! 1100.00 ( often higher)for a used saw is basically stupid ." Used is used" and unknowns can drive the maintenance costs even higher because it's USED. How many evbay purchases burned people on used saws? The clones are a good alternative for someone not making money with their saw, but so are old American classics that aren't the fastest (bragging rights=ego) saw on the block. An XL12 or a ProMac1010 will outlast any anti vibe saw by generations, but you don't see anyone bragging about it?
