Hi Andrew. As usual, a great review. I've put my recently bought Lanshan 1 Pro up for the first time today. Sorry to be so late in coming to your video. One thing about pitching: I used to have a " similar " dfc pyramid tent. That pitched by staking out the two back corners and then inserting the pole and staking out the main front guy line. Then stake the two front corners and finally the middle rear stake. Pole was set at 125cm. All the pitching videos of the Lanshan 1 Pro I've seen have been by staking out the four corners and then inserting the pole etc. Some have commented that pitching it is a bit of a faff. I pitched for the first time using the approach for my previous tent. It was so easy - up in no time and was pretty near perfect for a first pitch. It seems a much better way compared to the " usual " way.

I got my 1 pro about a month ago ! It's a great tent . My first night in it was in the pouring rain . I had a low pitch , and some condensation issues ..It got quite wet ...... I was also cooking inside and talking to the camera quite a bit . It was raining so hard that the mesh drip edge actually built up with water and created a channel for the water to come right in the tent . I did not seam seal it ...it was an out of the box test . I really like this tent , I'm going to work on my pitch and try it some more in foul weather . Foul weather aside , I think this will be an awesome fair weather tent . I noticed they had a picture of it in snow on their website ! I will be testing that theory ! Great review ! New sub here ! Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and your family ! - Justin

Nice review mate. Does look intersting for summer use. Think I have seen people use there trekking pole angled down toward the outer fly and peg the inner. Think this alows for it to be lower to the ground. If they would add a T-Zip on inner as well as two way on outer would be good. Along with maybe 12" of wind proofing fabric along bottom of the inner. Atb

Great review thanks and some good extra tips. I just picked up one in Hong Kong. Agree with the high pitch of the vestibule - it can be slightly reduced with a pole pitch of 120cm. That said, I don’t know why they just didn’t re-shape the vestibule with a little extra material so it sits lower.

Nice video, and hope to see the next chapter on the field! I have had the same tent in same color (very nice, btw), and I already pitched a few times, so I have a suggestion: use 125cm high pole (49inches) and pitch 4 main corners, then tension the front door, last only pitch the back corner and the shock cords for the bathub, so you will have the perfect pitch with the back part of the bathub in correct position. Last, you pitch and gently tension the 3 tieouts. Keep on the nice videos 👍

for me these are summer tents when a window of warm and calm weather is pretty certain, I spent 3 weeks in may cycling around Europe with one, never again, draughty as feck, fiddly and always cold. I believe the design is for warm weather forest camping in USA, not really a European tent for me. When price and weight outweigh utility and good sense.
@AndrewParkOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree with you, I've had some really good use out of ultralight tents but had the luxury of knowing the weather and choosing a tent for each accordingly. For a 3 week cycle round Europe I think it would be good to choose something less airy for the changeable conditions , but hey, benefit of hindsight and all that ! We've all done it ! A

@@Charlemagne1367 yes, but that negates the weight saving from the UL tent! 🤔
@Charlemagne13672 жыл бұрын
@@petergilbert72 No, not necessarily. My first comment was a bit short. This is were experience comes in. The heavier option would be to indeed get a heavier sleeping bag. The ul option would be to first of all pitch in a warmer spot, know your terrain, and for example use a lighter sleeping bag and incorporate your clothing into your sleep system and taking a warmer weather bag into freezing temps. You are carrying them anyway, might as well do double duty and take a warmer weather bag into freezing temps.

Thanks for this Andrew. I just got one of these (in green) and won't be using it until summer - agreed that the snowy hype on the 3F UL website is simply marketing. It looks a great weight/space/price combination though, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs as a fairer-weather alternative to my Hexpeak V4A. That loop where the base of the support sits isn't a supplementary pegging point btw, it's an attachment loop for a tent pole other than the pointy end of a hiking pole, when you're not using the grommet.

When you're comparing prices, bear in mind that 6 Moons use high quality fabrics. With the Chinese version you really have no idea what you're getting. The fabric is a significant percentage of the cost, so this may be an area where the cheaper tent is cutting corners. Probably not an issue if you're an occasional user, but for a heavy user a cheap fabric might not give you the wear you are expecting - UV and repeated packing can be tough on the proofing...
@AndrewParkOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Yep fair point, I've not had any issues with the fabric on previous tents from them but have seen a Naturehike tent tear relatively easily. My six moon version didn't feel much different but without doing a tear strength test who knows ! A
@tullochgorum63234 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewParkOutdoors Tear strength is over-rated, I think. I've had an online chat with one of the most experienced designers in the industry, and he says that repair departments rarely see issues with fabric strength. It's really only if something falls on the shelter that tear-strength comes into play. The main issue between fabrics is the quality of the proofing. Testing on BackpackingLight shows that many of the cheaper fabrics lose their proofing very quickly as they age. Good fabrics stay waterproof for much longer.

I have used Lanshan pro 1 and it was leaking under medium heavy rain, and yes I have seam sealed the tents. It was raining under a couple of hours and it was like a very light shower inside the tent. We were actually a group that was camping and we used two lanshan 2 pro and one pro1 and all had the same issue, Every tent had water inside the tent in the morning. I would not rely on this tent for more challenging hikes. The construction is fine but I could never recommend to buy this tent. Very sad to say this, but you have to buy the real original stuff or maybe the old lanshan model. The old Lanshan have a rating on the outer fly of 5000mm waterproof index and the pro have 2000mm. Maybe the older model is more secure?
