Great work. If I may participate to this research, Ajarn Chakraphop (Muay Chaiyuth) is said to base his Muay Thai on the Chaiyuth style, in reference to the style synthesized by the king Naresuan (Sanphet II) who ruled Siam long before the Tiger King. Although we’re likely to have little descent information remaining from that period (especially concerning the Muay of that time) Ajarn Chakrphop has studied Muay Thai and its history from several masters and teachers. We might never know how much crucial information he learnt from his living. The terms he uses from the various weapons are distinct from the typical Cherng Muay terms, which brings us to wonder where exactly they come from. In the Thaiyuth style, he blended that traditional Chaiyuth style with his own knowledge in Judo and Karate, creating a highly effective self defense and martial art for the new Thai generations. His son took over that Thaiyuth academy after his death. Best regards. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the info, very interesting. In my research on Chaiyut I noticed the use of different terminologiest too, some were so captivating that I decided to implement them in my style. Another thing that I found interesting was the presence of a basic defense system to get up in case you fall to the ground, which is often overlooked. The terminologies in this case too were different from usual. I agree with you; the most important part is where the Master studied and why these terminologies have not spread to the same level as the others, which now reign supreme thanks to the World Muay Boran Federation which has implemented them in their curriculum. It would be very interesting to be able to know more. Grand Master Amnat Pooksrisuk often quoted Chaiyut in his lessons, your advice is definitely to be listened to, Chaiyut has crucial information for every Thai martial arts student and deserves to be studied and deepened. Thank you again for the brilliant comment. 🙏

I am getting into Law Enforcement and I am more interested in the combat arts including Boran not really because of the fact it's meant for an actual fight although that is a plus but because it seems to be that it's more practical compared to sport martial arts. It's designed for an actual fight with someone with intent to do harm to you maybe even kill you.

Do you have any specifics on the bone breaking art of Muay Boran that Tony Jaa used in the 2007 film Protector
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions Жыл бұрын
He used various Muay Boran techniques, however, some are irrealistic or exaggerated. In reality, most work best after a throw, by keeping control of the opponent and breaking. Keep in mind that you break the joints as they are the weakest point, not the bone itself, so I refer to them as Joint-Breaking techniques to be more precise 🙏

@@GaawutProductions I was just curious if there's a Muay Boran form that focuses purely on attacking and destroying the joints . I practice BJJ and I've practiced regular Muay Thai kickboxing since I was teenager but I was wanted to find out about that specific art seeing him use his arms like an elephant trunk breaking arms it was mesmerizing
@lececamara
@lececamara Жыл бұрын
Tony Jaa created some of the moves for the movies, mixing Muay Techniques with gymnastics and other martial arts. In The protector ( Tom Yam Koong in Thailand) he designed the moves as to reflect the Elephants. So they were created, those breaks etc for the movie, of course based on existing techniques. In Ong Bak 2 he really mixed a lot of martial arts and it was just amazing, but as you can see, Ong Bak, Protector, Ong Bak 2 and 3 they all have different look and style for the fights. Tony Jaa deserves much credit for this. In Ong Bak 1 he did that kind of kata were he is doing the boran techniques saying the names, like Jorakee Fad Hang etc...which also lead to confusion to many thinking that Muay had kata or forms like other martial arts.
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions Жыл бұрын
@@lececamara Few Muay Boran styles have Kata, mainly the one influenced by Japanese Martial Arts (Thaiyut and Muay Lert Rit). The kata Tony Jaa did has some techniques from Thaiyuth (Yan Yothi, Nang Liew, and more) since Grand Master Amnat Pooksrisuk prepared him for the movie, and he knew Thaiyuth. Other styles don't have real Katas but only an ordered sequence of techniques belonging to the same system performed in a linear trajectory, nothing mixed to resemble a fight and nothing cryptic. The true katas of Muay Boran are the Wai Kru Ram Muay Movements.
@lececamara
@lececamara Жыл бұрын
@@GaawutProductions I have only seen the linear ones, never seen anything resembling a kata, except as you mention the wai kru which varies from school to school and contains very valuable information about speciphic strategies, principles etc...is there any of those kata in youtube? Thanks for the info.

Do you think there more ancient styles than shown in this two videos?
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 7 ай бұрын
Yes, it's not something I think, there are mentions of them, but many got lost. Every region in Thailand had some stylistic differences, and every master had their own preferences and nuances. However it's important to remember that every Muay Boran style has the same core principles; the three-point stance, a type of yang saam khum walk, the use of the universal defensive principles, and the use of at least 8 of the natural weapons of the body.

I wonder, what would become of a mixed style of Muay Boran with Krav Maga? How effective can that be?
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 22 күн бұрын
Everything that you can find in Krav Maga is already in Muay Boran, it would not make much sense to mix them. At the end of the day, it's all about who's your coach, how effective your training is, your mindset, and so on 🙏

How do I pick a style? Do you know what style most use like Buakaw?
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 2 жыл бұрын
Watch some videos and follow your heart, that's the best way to choose a style, you can still change it later if you are not satisfied or you can study multiple styles. Buakaw is a Muay Thai fighter, not a Muay Boran one. He studied Muay Boran but he never applied it. A Muay Boran style that resembles Buakaw's Muay Thai is Muay Korat.
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthew6966 The technique you mentioned are shared among most of the styles, but I would not call them "advanced", they are "supplementary" techniques in a certain sense. Most of the jumping, flashy, and climbing techniques are pretty much useless or there are better alternatives, most of them were used in exhibitions, for example, the climbing techniques have been inspired by the classical Thai dance called Natasin. You should ask yourself what are you looking for in Muay Boran; if you are looking for effectiveness I recommend sticking to the basics and studying the regional styles (Korat, Chaiya, Lopburi, Thasao). The best way to know what's the best for you is to test what you learn in sparring and fights, see what works and what does not work for you, and with time you will build your personal style. I also recommend you to check out my video "Muay Boran Exposed" to understand the defects and how to improve your Muay Boran journey.
@matthew6966
@matthew6966 2 жыл бұрын
@@GaawutProductions I see, the reason I was curious on those climbing techniques is because I was seeing what different styles have to offer. Muay boran being such an umbrella term it is hard to tell how they are different, especially when not that much information is given, not even techniques. I’ve been practicing the sport of just Muay and discovered Muay Boran on top of that later on and realizing Muay Boran has much more techniques from a self defence perspective and not so much in the ring. So that is what I was looking for in Muay Boran, I’m still trying to find Pram techniques (seizing) That’s why I thought a certain style may have techniques that others don’t have. Like Kung fu. A bought a book because I couldn’t find many information that Iam still waiting for to come in.
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's definitely a problem, there is not enough information out there, only Muay Chaiya, Siamyut, and Muay Chaisawat actively promote their art on the net. The Pram techniques are scattered all around the different styles, they are definitely the most important and interesting part of Muay Boran, and are essential for self-defense. I'm working on an online course on Muay Pram which will be my biggest work yet, it will take a few months for it to be ready but it will definitely add value to your journey. Which book did you buy? I might try suggesting you few. Btw, from what I know Siamyut at their advanced level should have a great repertoire of Pram techniques.
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a few years ago there was literally a war on the net between Muay Thai and Boran practitioners against Pahuyuth, and after being exposed he disappeared for some time, only to come back with this spam campaign under every Muay Boran video on youtube. Their fake information has a lot of discrepancies, they even distorted Thai history, they claimed that Muay Korat has never been in a fight while there are records of it, old pictures, and even old videos. There is a group on Facebook on SEA Martial Arts that documented the whole campaign against Pahuyuth, there are entire chapters of text on why it is a fraud, I hope fewer and fewer people get deceived by them.

Practitioners of one of the modern contemporary styles (IMBA, Siamyut, and Sangha) that went under the proper preparation will perform great on stand-up fighting but Muay Boran does not have ground fighting, plus their repertoire will be limited to some degrees, so if they get taken down and can't stand up quickly they will lose.

Very nice video. It always leaves me puzzled the transliteration of Thai into English. For example, Farang, it is written in Thai with Ro Rwa, ร which is an R...but every Thai person will speak "Falang" Instead which always left me wondering and telling my Thai students that if their language has an R, they should properly pronounce it, which got me laughs as they did not want to sound snobbish I guess...here I see written Muay Pram, but in Thai it reads: Muay PLam, with Lo ling ( ล), the Thai letter for L. It is pronounced Plum, or PLam in Thai (wrestling). Transliteration is very poorly done from Thai into English and let´s not speak about Thai to spanish...makes very hard to learn Thai from a book, if not impossible as you need the correct sounds. I know it is impossible for some sounds, but little things like properly placing and R or an L were it goes would help.
@GaawutProductions
@GaawutProductions Жыл бұрын
It was deliberately transliterated as "Pram" by the IMBA headmaster to create a distinction between Muay Plam, used as a generic term for wrestling, and "Muay Pram" as a specific term for Thai Wrestling. I use Pram because it's a better keyword on the internet since in the west most of the existing content on it comes from the IMBA.
@lececamara
@lececamara Жыл бұрын
@@GaawutProductions Yes, I remember reading about the name in Marco De Cesaris book. I am sorry but it is a grave mistake in my opinion, although your idea for using it as a better keyword is very good, the real transliteration is an L, if they start changing things just to separate from another, but not thinking that it will lead to confusion mainly to foreigners that can read Thai...an R and an L sound different. Correct pronunciation is pLam, not pRam and when a foreigner learns it like pram and tries to speak thai, no one understands him. As in my example, EVERYONE in the world saus faLang, when the real and correcto pronunciation is faRang...it makes hard to learn propper Thai. Just an old man´s rant LOL, sorry.

You know, I dont like some modern day muay boran instructors on yt and in real life, they make the martial art look so fake and most of them have no technique, it makes me think they are fake. Also I've noticed that muay boran instructors that started muay thai first then muay boran make the martial art look so deadly, dangerous and functional.
