Gabriel, I’m believing you didn’t walk into a dungeon but one of the first ancient Christian churches that was hidden underground as the early Christians even carved caves in order to escape persecution. Above the hidden church where you had to squeeze in and out from is the first ancient Armenia Cathedral in the world. The church would have built above the sacred site for protecting the much more older site. It just may be that the lower church may have resulted soon after the 1st century, because the disciple of Jesus Christ, Matthew took along Jude aka Thaddeus Bartholomew (he replaced Judas Iscariot Acts 1:21-26) and went together on their mission to Armenia to preach the gospel. The gospel was first preached in peoples homes and as the church grew so did persecution, causing the first Christians to hide.

Gabriel - - I think it would be great if you could do a video or series of videos with "real world" travel tips. You have lots of experience and could help us avoid getting ripped off, and making mistakes while traveling. For example, is it OK to talk a kid (or kids) by themselves? I was taught not to do this, or take their pictures, because adults can get suspicious of your intent. How to avoid getting mugged or kidnapped. How to spot scams and crooks, what to pack, what to not eat or drink, etc. etc. I know you have touched on some of these in your other videos but a dedicated set of videos with travel tips seems like it would be a huge hit with the KZbin travel crowd.
@GabrielTravelerVideos5 жыл бұрын
Very good idea. It's been on my list for a while to make a travel tips video with 50 tips, something like that. It will probably have to wait until I'm not traveling and making the travel vlogs, because that takes up all my time for now. But it is on the list to do at some point.

Here's a tip: just a few short miles from Mt. Ararat and located inside Turkey is what's known as the Durupinar Site. There you will find what is claimed to be the petrified remains of the Ark. No, there is a more likely one also in Turkey, Cudi Dagh, having much more ancient sources, better geology and formerly archaeology, local traditions, ancient historian Josephus Flavius, ... Rather than this rather externally initiated and pushed by Turkeys tourism industry one. The Cudi Dagh simply came later into western focus and is so much immersed once in a while into the Kurd wars. Thus often restricted access. Sources: Bill Crouse Timo Roller www Noah2014 Sirnak Conference Cudi Dagh Gertrude Bell, mother of modern Iraq ... See my earlier posts.

The church is so different from anything I've seen!
@chriskontennutzer44735 жыл бұрын
History of church architecture is very interesting and inspiring: Beginning with galilean semi-rural fisher homes (new dug out stuff lately! "House of Peter"), ... To illegal christians meeting in grave place catacombs in Rome and leaving their traces, ... with an intermediary state in ancient Syria, ... Then the church becoming a legal entity and in need to receive all the masses, ancient "shopping malls" become the first basilicas The caucasus also being a pioneer in forming a state church, declaring an outward nation as a whole a kind of christian entity. When ancient rulers were convinced, converted, ... such structures came into being. Shortly before that churches tried to silently blend into general living quarters, even the interior not suddenly giving away its purpose (Syria, Roman catacombs, ...).
@chriskontennutzer44735 жыл бұрын
Fat medieval Roman churches then provoked Swiss reformers to build "naked" churches, while Luther went the middle way and emphasized pulpit, baptismal font and altar with Bible and sacrament. His influence allowing sometimes even for elaborate "picture Bibles" on the inner walls to educate everyone, but with the swiss removing some side altars and extreme worship of though Holy, but merely human saints and other funny medieval inventions. And postmodern churches show technocracy and loosing concrete meaning in more and more abstract dissolution of topics. Teleevangelists megachurches being a complete other topic again, after some simplicity and different denominations ruled the western US "frontier" churches during expansion. Indigenous asian churches closing the circle then :-) ... as it all began in Asia minor.

Ararat is the combined and official name of the 2 picks of the mountain. The small one is called Sis and the big one - Masis. Armenians dont simply claim to have "invented" wine, it was proven by British and American scientists as well, since the oldest ever winery was wound in Armenia, Near Areni village, in a cave.
@GabrielTravelerVideos5 жыл бұрын
I was in Areni just a few hours ago actually and visited the cave. Also the oldest shoe in the world was discovered there. However there are other places where evidence of wine production is even older: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_wine Apparently the oldest winery discovered is in Armenia, in Areni cave, but it's not the oldest evidence of wine being produced.
