I spent a month and a half in the beautiful colonial style town of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. I took classes in advanced Spanish, classes in the history of Mexico, Mexican music and Mexican folk dancing. At night I took Salsa dancing. San Miguel never changes because there is a law that any rebuilding or remodeling has to be done in colonial style. San Miguel is also an art town. I lived with a Mexican family and went total Immersion in the Spanish language. I've since been back a few times.

As an expat in SMA, I recommend you ask a taxi to go to aguas thermales. Natural hot springs. The best is Escondido Place about 15 minutes outside of the city center towards Dolores Hidalgo. Not expensive but relaxing. Taxi will be around 100 pesos each way but well worth it.

Hi Gabriel! Beautiful City! Your food looked more like the Mexican food we're used to in America. Bet it was so much better than ours.. The courtyard at the hostel where you're staying is absolutely gorgeous! Wouldn't mind having that in my yard.. I don't see how women walk on the cobblestones with heels. I saw a few wearing them..A twisted ankle waiting to happen.. Glorious Cathedrals! Just an awesome city...Cant wait for your next video! Please take care and I bid you peace! 🌺😄🌺

Gabe, the giant costumes lead groups drinking Mescal through the streets (mostly for wedding or Aniversary parties). If you go back you will notice they are a bride and groom. The tour is Called callejonadas. You follow a donkey with bottles of mescal on his back and the tour guides give you a little shot cup at the start and fill your glass up throughout the 1-hour long tour. Similar to the Estudiantes in Guanajuato (Shakespearian costumes). Basically, they both provide a walking tour with singing through the streets to mariachi. But in SMA, the tour involves Mescal.

Other colonial cities in the area that you might enjoy are Taxco, Cholula, Oaxaca, and downtowns in Queretaro, Puebla and Mexico City, if you head south east Mexico, check out San Cristobal de las Casas, Campeche and downtown Merida. Also north from you but not that far away is Morelia in Michoacan State, not that many tourists but just as beautiful as San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato.

Keep the great videos coming Gabriel! Just one technical point if I may: the lovely church in the Jardin Principal is not a cathedral. Think of a cathedral as a capitol building: it is literally the "seat" of the bishop or archbishop of the diocese or archdiocese (geographical boundary). The cathedral that covers the archdiocese of which San Miguel de Allende is a part is in neighboring city of Leon. You will find the locals referring to the church accurately as a "parroquia" or a parish church. There are many beautiful churches that are not actually cathedrals. Film on Gabriel! Love the images!

@@libbyjones552 Lol! I get it! In Queretaro, the next town over, the Church of Santa Maria de Viterbo is a stunningly-beautiful parish church, not far from the actual Cathedral of Queretaro named St. Philip Neri, the latter of which is comparatively austere. Think of the Holy Family (Sagrada Familia) in Barcelona, which is massive and a master work in itself... and is also not a cathedral. Enjoy them all! Cheers!

About the giant skeletons : I lived in San Miguel de Allende in 66 and 67. They had the largest celebration of the Day of the Dead(Nov. 1) there. The Dead are the honored ancestors, whose graves are dressed with flowers and other offerings. Everyone wears a skeleton mask with a cross on the forehead, to consecrate the soul. Each child is given a candy skull with his/her name on it. Early November is said to be the time of year when the realm of the dead is closest to that of the living.

Folks - a burrito is an endearing name for a burro, a donkey which is commonly used to carry goods to market, etc - it is often overloaded with goods, etc. Food-wise, it is tortilla that is over-loaded with different kinds of ingredients and sauces also for transportation....to your mouth!! No one ever ''invented'' it - just like no one invented the donkey! Similarly, the Earl of Sandwich never ''invented'' what we call a ''sandwich'' - its just a convenient name that stuck. People were eating them the world over - way before the earl was even born.

Hi Gabriel, Interesting town I do like the hostel I like the open quiet yard. It did look like you were eating an enchilada good choice. I always notice with food that certain places make it different from somewhere else it even may taste different somewhere else.

San Miguel de Allende, the place where cobblestone streets engage in a daily battle with high heels, proving once and for all that fashion and practicality are sworn enemies. The town is a living canvas, where every building competes in a beauty pageant for the coveted title of "Most Instagrammable Facade." Forget about quiet mornings; here, the roosters are like overenthusiastic alarm clocks, ensuring that even if you managed to sleep through the lively mariachi band practicing at midnight, you'll still be up at the crack of dawn, contemplating the existential questions of life. The local dogs seem to have formed a secret society with a mission to make you question your jogging skills as they effortlessly navigate the uneven streets while you stumble over cobblestones like a toddler learning to walk. San Miguel de Allende is where every conversation feels like a telenovela script, complete with dramatic pauses and passionate gestures. It's a town where art is not just on the walls but also in the very air you breathe, inspiring even the most artistically challenged to contemplate taking up finger painting. Welcome to San Miguel de Allende, where the only thing more colorful than the buildings is the cast of characters that make up this delightful Mexican masterpiece. Nice video, Gabriel Traveler!

So lovely and beautiful down there. Thanks for sharing. You could keep doing videos for a while in San Miguel De Allende for it's the most beautiful colonial town said to be a whopping 64 blocks in size for the actual colonial cobblestone street area.

Amazing video about an area of Mexico that I have never been to. When you shot the mirror, it was noticeable that you were holding the GoPro with your bare hands, no gimbal, nothing. You have some really firm grip and firm hands, of course this new software in the latest GoPro must help a lot as well.

Hola, be sure to check out el restauranté Los Milagros for the best Molcajetes on the planet. I’m a retired expat living in SMA. There are 2 locations. The one on Relox is the one I frequent.

Your Spanish is really improving, Señor! Do you ever have problems with hostels? I would worry that people might talk a lot or do things that might be a distraction from sleeping!

Yes that's the main issue with hostels, the noise. You never know until you get there, sometimes it's not too bad, sometimes it totally messes up your night and then your day.

Lol someone talking is the least of hostel problems. In California hostels probably a third of the nights had sex in bunks often above me and I had to worry if bunk would break. You get alot drug use people steal each other's stuff mentally Ill...bad drunks people looking for fights. Still more exciting than sitting in my boring apt like I am now

Luckily I've avoided all those experiences, as well as bed bugs. Snoring is the real curse of hostels. I think hostels outside of the US tend to be a better crowd, travelers (which is what they're supposed to be for) instead of down and out people just looking for a cheap place to crash.
