I was there 22 years ago in 2001 and can't imagine what it was like 10 years earlier and now everything is paved over and shops installed on every parcel of available land the way it looks. Far removed from my $10 night hut with the tin roof that woke me up with a start in the middle of the night when a coconut fell on it.

Mindblowing isn't it? I was there five years later and there was one old luxury hotel but apart from that it was only beach huts (from backpacker to luxury) in the central strip and pretty much just one road with the tourist shops, and only one party bar (the reggae bar). It was a beautiful, tranquil paradise with mainly boats of day trippers, but still generally very quiet. Then the made the film (they were ripping out the palm trees to get it ready for filming when we were there, destroying the coral in the process of moving a film crew in. A lot of outcry about it but the government let it happen in this protected area for $). I can't imagine what it's like now, a town there no less!

I wish my experience in Ko Phi Phi was as chill as yours... When I visited in 2019, I got terrible food poisoning but insisted on going on my pre-paid early morning snorkel excursion. I had to use the restroom on the boat like 10 times, and hardly even entered the water. The boat toilet even malfunctioned half way through the trip and wouldn't flush. The whole staff and tour group despised me for stinking up the whole adventure! Seriously uncomfortable experience lol

It is incredible how much they have built there recently! - I was there (on Long Beach) before the tsunami and there were only a few single houses where the main centre is now. The ride by boat from the main pier was free (!) just in order to take people there. - No more worth going there! - Thanks for showing all the islands! I liked Koh Payang near Ranong (on the west coast) which was still quite natural and cheap in 2005.....

Happy to say, Yes, I think the water looks clean and very enticing, the small mountains are a big plus, always look great around a bay. I see there are paved laneways to get around, all makes life easier. I think they did a good job. I remember hiring a longboat and we did a private snorkel tour with my family. I think the only way you can improve on your videos is by trying to record the prices of things more than you currently do, so in them cases of walking past boat rides or boat hiring or food places etc, an understanding of their prices gives a good representation of how far our local currency can go there…. hi Gabriel, by the looks, prices are totally out of wack now in Thailand... shabby rooms, neglected premises, dangerous walking path and 3 Star prices. Total rip off, all I can say ...the beaches aren't that mind blowing either... compared to pacific island beaches. But thanks for the video, I won't have to visit the place...

Muslims are local there. I stayed at a M hotel that had a bitchen AC and a pool. No booze but a football field walk to the liquor store. Will stay there again. They even did laundry by the kg.
