What I like about your idea of value studies, is that it matches the medium. In other words it matches the fluidity of watercolor. Also I was imagining myself painting and charging the big shapes as if I was painting in color. Also I think the big connected shape anchors your painting. Thankyou Andy, nice video.

I love AE's approach and style, but with respect, what underlies the value masses, the structure/armature and cropping/ framing will make or break a composition as well. There is no saving any composition that is unorganized at the fundamental level. Perhaps the talented artist do it naturally, " augenblick" and they know what to do, and set to work. Those of us less talented will consciously need to learn good principles, and try, try ,try.
