GABRIELA ALANIZ becomes WBO/WBC/WBA flyweight champion by edging out an ageing MARLEN ESPARZA.

By missing weight by two pounds, former unified flyweight champion, Marlen Esparza, lost her WBO, WBC and WBA titles without a punch being thrown. There were plenty of punches thrown during the fight though, especially by challenger, Gabriela Alaniz, who ground out a split decision win to rectify the majority verdict she lost a year ago.

I didn't see the weigh in, but looking at Esparza I'd say she didn't try to make weight at all, as like you say, she was soft around the middle. I'm assuming she's done now, as I don't believe she'll move up. We'll see. Bless up bro 👊

Alaniz won the 1st fight . Imho , great fight .scoring was right on the button in this second time around . But great aggressive start from the get go . Marlen has a good jab but you can,t fight on the back and win . But overall a great fight ,both ladies ❤it. Trilogy bring it

Just here to defend the 2 minute rounds again. I’m sure we’ve discussed it in comments before, so I won’t list my reasons but I will concede that title fights could or should be 12 x 2s.
