I bought my secret santa(everyone knows who’s got who so it’s not really secret) two pairs of really nice luxury socks, a water bottle and some pens and pencils. for my 18th bday my parents got me an inflatable llama as a joke (before giving me a phone, my real gift). well jokes on them cause I was incredibly happy that I got that llama, cause I love huge pool toys but I felt like it was too expensive. To be fair, a gag gift can be a very well thought gift. For example, we bought a coloring book for a friend of mine (she loves them) and it was one of those books that are full of cuss words and such, to reference the fact that she is sometimes very cinical and sarcastic. Every year for Christmas, I craft elaborate gag gifts for a handful of my family members, based on in-jokes and stuff I know they'll find funny. However, the gag gifts are packaging for their real gifts, usually gift cards or money. My way of saying, "I know you well enough to know your sense of humor, and I'm putting in the effort here, but I'm not going to gamble on what I think you'll like or what your tastes are." Best of both worlds. Everyone shares a laugh, and they get to buy the exactly right thing.

Not my birthday but my sister wrapped my own science textbook for christmas in just the cute paper. Yes, I was desperate to know what was inside so It surprised me, and yes I forgot about the science textbook for months, but it still hurts.
