Loved this nostalgic trip down memory lane. Reminds me of the time I tried hunting a 140 Apex rajang with a trio of hunters who were heavily planning on strategies and preparation. They were maxed out in armor and had a ton of good armor skills whereas I wasnt much for show since true armor spheres were hard to come by for me at that point in the game. The three of them were sniped by the rajang beam and we triple carted in _One shot_ immediately

If you're able do do 140 GQs, true armor spheres can be obtained by mining on heaven's mount, at an average of 5 per run. Just gonna let you know if you come back to the game :)

@@Dave_Chrome I just did charm runs on heaven's mount. Eat for Felyne Explorer, collect everything in the explorer set, check the left and the right of the first ledge, head down 2, check the rock there, go down and check under the next ledge, and then there's a guarenteed gold at the base of the cliff. Then you move left across the map and get the gold by the entrance to the leftmost map, and whatever's on the way. After that you can go do the subquest and quit out. This gets you enduring charms and strong/true/heavy armor spheres.

I also like how they include other hunters in the cutscenes as well if you play in multiplayer. The mine cart and the giant cannon mechanics in the fortress stage are also really fun. I just love riding those things! I hope they bring them back in the next game.

Before your fight with Kushala Daora in World’s story you can talk to him and he’ll talk about how he and his friends back home faced off with one. And at some other point he talks about how he and his friends tracked down a monster called “shegaroo” (in obvious reference to Shagaru Magala).

The production value on this game is just so awesome. One of the reasons why I think this is the best MH game in the series. Also... I'm still salty they didn't use the Rusted Kushala story theme on the Rusted Kushala hunts. Would have made the fights more bearable IMHO.

16:45 There are Quests for Stygian and Frenzy Brachy. There have no cutscene but are worth mentioning. Stygian is relevant for the creation of the Demolisher and Brachy was forshadowing for the return of the frenzythread in form of the Apex.

As my journey through Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate continued into Dundorma and G rank, I started to feel more confident in my abilities bit by by bit. I started getting used to the monsters and learning their attacks and patterns. But there were many I still struggled against and as things got more difficult, I started to feel my confidence ebbing away. This would continue until an encounter with a certain monster changed everything. It started when a friend and I decided to work towards completing the dowloaded chain of quests which would lead to the White Fatalis hunt. We cleared all of them except fighting Fatalis himself, because once we'd both unlocked that quest I had to go to bed. But once I was in my room I could not sleep. I decided to take on White Fatalis by myself just to see how it fought and what attacks it used. I went in completely unprepared, not even eating, just using the armor I had then and the Chameleos insect glaive. As the hunt progressed I was cautious, but still tried to do as much damage as I could. I fully expected to end up failing the quest so I wasn't too worried about the outcome. But as the hunt drew on, I started to feel something different. For the first time, I was actually enjoying a hunt. I was fighting this ancient dragon and no matter how much damage I took I was enjoying myself and I tried to avoid his lightning attacks and look for openings to attack. Even when I did faint, I still continued to keep getting back in and keep going. As the time ran down to zero, I fully expected that I was going to fail when time ran out. And that's when it happened. Instead of seeing my hunter collapse in defeat, I saw the White Fatalis roar one more time before it flew away. I had gone into this hunt with no preparation and not only had I survived the full 35 minutes, but I had been able to repel the White Fatalis. I had to stop myself from screaming as it was nearly midnight now. That hunt changed how I looked at the game. I started to enjoy playing it more, to enjoy hunting more and I started to actually want to improve and get better. And that is why White Fatalis has become my favorite monster. I played Generations when it came out but was unable to continue as I didn't have a Switch when Generations Ultimate first came out. But now I do have a Switch and a few months ago I picked Gen Ult up when it was on special in the e-shop. I've mostly gotten through the low and high rank quests by myself and I recently entered G rank. I'm still playing it now, trying to see how far I can go, and looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

reminds of the time I hosted a lvl 140 Shagaru Guild Quest, me and all three others were super low after getting stomped on, and we all for some reason thought it was a good idea to stand near each other while drinking potions.....needless to say, Shagaru's random mines appeared below us as we all were in the potion drinking animation, and quadruple carted us lmfao.

I just realized that Rusted Kushala's head was broken, meaning it had to be fairly close to being slain. So close, yet so far. Ah, no, it's broken from the start, apparently the team's effort has barely put a dent into an already heavily wounded Rusted Kushala.

It's a very interesting plot detail. The Ace Commander hates Rathians because when he was a recruit, he went hunting one and the Rusted KD of 4U appeared. He decided to fight the beast but was immediatly overpowered and was saved by the Master that scarred it with his hunting knife but remained seriously wounded and had to retire from hunting. Since that day, the Ace Commander feels guilty of what happened; this is why the KD head is scarred and this is why the Master doesn't hunt anymore.

I played MHFU, MHTri, 3u, Gen, GenU and World/Iceborne and only skipped 4u because I didn't like playing 3u on my 3ds (still finished the game and it was awesome, but to me it felt weird and messy on a gameboy with two screens). I'm kinda mad at myself for not playing it because everyone says that it's one of the best MH titles and now I can see why.

The Chef Felyne in MH4/4U is perhaps the unluckiest character in MH history looking at the cut scenes again. So much misfortune befalls him, but he still has the best kitchen service in MH history that puts MH World/Iceborne to shame. I mean , you get to cook 10 pieces of meat at once on a giant skewer and don't have to sacrifice monster materials for it.

@@Dave_Chrome in the Japanese version of the game his dialogue is based on something like a Chinese person trying to speak in the Japanese language or something else like that. When translating 4U to English they originally wanted to give him a broken English (aka "Engrish" as it is meme'd as) sounding dialogue. But then they rejected the idea thinking it would be racist then thought about the German accent, but knew it wouldn't fit the character. So they made his dialogue normal for the release but I think they gave him unique speech pattern similar to how Yoda speaks at certain parts or a unique "Nya". I can't quite remember.

Would you ever consider doing a monster feature on Gore Magala or Seregios? Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate was my starting point and I have personal memories of these monsters. Gore Magala was the monster that tested my patience and put fear in me when it went frenzy (especially the chaotic gore magala). The seregios was just amazing to hunt. The music and the battle were so fast-paced. The quest with the giant apex seregios taught me to improve my guard pointing skills with the charge blade and I remember only getting hit twice during the whole hunt because my adrenaline was high and my senses were on point.

Also, after watching the Shah Dalamadur movie, I think you should really, really, go back into the Rotten Vale in World and stand inside the Dalamadur skull to see how much bigger it is than the 4U version. A comparison would be interesting.

IIRC (its been a couple years) you gotta go through the hunters hub in val habar doing all of the key quests and raising your HR. You'll get a quest to fight a dalamadur eventually. Beat him and your HR will "break" (uncap) then you can travel to dundorma and get access to the elder hall where you can accept G-rank quests. That's how you'll find G-rank and Fatalis. I forgot how to get non g rank elder dragons.

*SPOILERS BELOW* Well, complete Caravan story (beat Rusted Kushala), and slay Dalamadur (Online final boss of MH4, last urgent quest of High Rank Hub in 4U). Then you'll get a quest for Ukanlos that'll unlock G1 for you. Keep doing urgents and slay Gogmazios (final boss in G3). Then you'll unlock the G Special Permit, which will let you accept any quest. You'll also unlock scrolls, which when deciphered (which progresses by you completing quests, I assume it's tied to HR gain) will grant you more quests, intense ones. After that you should have everything... except for bonus quests. These are basically event questlines, with some dialogue and story to boot. I know White Fatalis is in one of them. Also, I know that G Rank Crimson Fatalis is a scroll (the final one I believe), and some event quests. High Rank Fatalis is the HR100 quest monster, and has event quests in High Rank and G Rank. Oh, and High Rank Crimson is a Caravan quest... at the end of the Egg Delivery Questline ("Egg-straction"). Lmaoooooo

You can get Caravan High Rank elders (Teostra, Kushala, Akantor) by doing all the questlines/requests in every story location. Each location gives a different monster. I forget about Kirin, but, just doing every single quest in Caravan should yield good results. Really, you'll actually surprise yourself with the content that gets unlocked just by being thorough. Did you know there was a Low Rank Brachydios/Kirin? I think it took me till mid High Rank to unlock those.

ALSO, one last thing. Some specific monsters in specific ranks are tied to the Everwood, Guild Quests, and then possibly events as well. This list could be wrong (and it encompasses any of the ranks), but Kut-Ku, Blue Kut-Ku, Garuga, Kirin, Basarios, and Ruby Basarios are tied to those and are missing dedicated quests. Unless you're counting event quests.

There was no WiiU port for 4. The original version of MH 4 was only released in Japan for the 3ds, 4 Ultimate made it to the west (also on the 3ds). So yes, Gogmazios is in the 3ds-version.... since it is the only one.

in my mind, the best way to remake 4U would be not to use World mechanics or art style, but to keep the cartoonish art style, taken up a notch of course (kinda how Xenoblade 1 is doing), and for mechanics, I dont feel the slinger or clutch claw added really that much, but I would like to see it try to retake the GenU styles at least, but once again taking them up a notch, while I aould like the arts too the arent a necesity, just more fancy flare I would like and this is just me, but I really want them to try to retake underwater combat, since many of my fav monsters are underwater only or focus mainly underwater... also, I cant believe Im saying this but... Plesioth underwater hitboxes are more fair...
