Changing my relationship with food easily made the biggest difference in my results. From stuffing my belly until I was going to explode to taking note of how I truly felt. Sometimes it’s okay to be hungry, as GSP says, a lion doesn’t hunt on a full stomach

Sooo, crazy story right. I was arm wrestling my friend the day of the Súper bowl. It was about 15 minutes before kickoff! We had about 8 people watching us. So we were back and forth for a while and then we stayed in the middle for about 4 seconds and then…BOOM! Huge pop on my left arm. I snapped my humerus in half. Worst pain I’ve ever felt when the doctors put it back in place. It’s been about 9 weeks since the injury so I’ve been workout out legs a bunch. I workout my right arm at least twice a week. Anyways I think the maps symmetry would be the best thing for me to do post rehab. Love y’all’s content by the way I’ve learn soo much! Appreciate y’all!!

I’m so fascinated by this take on isometrics! It prompted me to try an isometric glute bridge before step ups with a long time client. She didn’t know what I was doing or why but she said, and I quote, “I never felt step ups in my glutes before!” Mission accomplished! Thank you for this!!!! I will definitely be using this strategy more going forward!

The advice thats helped me the most with controlling my craving is when Adam said on an episode a while ago that you tell yourself you are going to eat what it is your craving but tell yourself let me have this healthy meal first and if I still want it I can have it. Most of the time you're craving goes away. Love the podcast guys I would love to own maps symmetry!

I like how Sal said a craving is just an impulse not hunger, never heard it out that way. It's honestly the best way to describe it when trying to form better habits towards food.

I went on vacation last week and was worried about my progress but one thing that I learned from you guys was that its not a big deal and enjoyed my time off. Thanks for the true and awesome tips. I started to tune in late last year and have learned so much in this time. It motivated me to start to train consistently and started to see results following your advice. I enjoy your content in the fitness realm but also the parenting aspect of the show since I have 3 small children at home!!! One more thing, my immediate family has been noticing my changes and have also began to live more active and healthy lives. I get stoked when I get to use your analogies or your fitness tips when talking to my family about fitness and eating healthier.

Everything I learned about nutrition and training the body came from you guys at mind pump. I got married in October and when I saw pictures from the wedding back I knew I needed a change. I'm 22 never lifted never looked into nutrition. I was failed by personal trainers here as they were money hungry or had a grinding style that was too intense for a beginner. Now I have been able to loose 60 pounds in 6 months because I went to KZbin and found you guys. I listen at work and I legitimately laugh sometimes from your conversations. This video couldn't have come at a better time. I was very good at having control until I got to my first goal now that I'm 60 pounds down I find myself struggling more so just getting some no BS information was so necessary. Thank you, for everything you guys take the time to do.

I love the story about your son and the drum set. My son used to bang his fingers on the back of my car seat with the music. I asked him if he wanted to play drums, he said yes. I paid for drum lessons for several years. I got the privilege to watch him perform on stage in pretty big venues in Fort Lauderdale later in life. He even recorded an album with some friends. He no longer plays regularly but it was a fun time of his life. All from watching him hit the back of my seat with his fingers

This past month I hit a PR that I am proud of. It wasn’t in a squat, deadlift, or even a bench press. This PR was going three weeks without having to come home from work and pop an ibuprofen for lower back and hip pain. I just finished phase 1 of maps performance, before that I was doing maps anabolic with mobility sessions as my trigger days. An Aesthetic looking body is nice. But what I have now thanks to mindpump is an optimal moving body. Sal you were right. Focus on performance and aesthetics will follow. I’ve never moved, looked, and felt so good before. I thought I would be stuck with back and hip pain for my whole life. So I just want to say from the bottom of my big heart and tiny calves. Thank you mind pump.

I’m the last few days I have eagerly listened to you guys for easily over 20 hours and I’ve ditched the constant cardio blasts (which hasn’t really changed my body in the year I’ve been spinning) to a bigger belief in the heavy weightlifting. I’ve been trying out the butt exercises and have already noticed a different. I’m so thankful I’ve found you guys and can not wait to dive into one of your programs with my husband. Also just hearing I don’t have to give into the craving like I change my mindset when I wanna punch someone is money 😂

Authenticity is so important in any online space. What’s amazing is, for your listeners, and I certainly experienced this myself.. is that even though most of us have never met you guys personally, we definitely feel a strong connection. It’s like we truly know who you guys are. And that is so important. I can relate to every single one of you in a different way. Ironically, the one I can relate to the most is actually Doug, as a decade ago I was producing podcasts, much like him. I focused on high-quality educational podcasts in my space. Back when (and sadly still is) the prevailing thoughts were bare minimum production and a more amateur approach, because everyone thought only the content was King; that production didn’t matter. Some thing can be said for a professional audio and/or video production. It really is everyone. It’s all about professionalism AND production, which allows the authenticity and the message to shine through; Instead of being distracted by amateurish production with good content or professional production with lacking content. My hat is off to all of you. I first started listening for a few tips. I then started watching the entire videos. I have since immersed myself in the education/knowledge that you guys provide and the enjoyment of the high level of production AND professionalism. I also feel the authenticity and I am thoroughly entertained by the thought provoking content and humor that you guys provide. Mindpump truly not only gives me a thorough pump to my muscles but my brain as well. And it also ticks all of the other boxes for me. Mindpump Is truly the total package! Bravo!

I was both suprised and excited when i watched a show where Sal shared his views on the nuts & bolts of intuitive eating and its efficacy. I get alot from your content. I appreciate the way in which some complex ideas are conveyed in actionable layspeak. I feel empowered. So I hear the intro on controlling carb cravings and I'm transfixed. Again. In a world where delaying gratification of any kind draws a good amount of eye roll I again appreciate the suggestion to sit with the cravings, however uncomfortable, & use that inherent intuition to detective what's really underpinning that desire to eat, presumably, foods that detract from the long game. Cheers

I stay on a slight calorie deficit 3 weeks out of the month and one week around my cycle when I have horrible cravings i allow myself some healthy treats, salty food, etc. Still mostly clean, I just make healthy choc pudding. Protein mug cake, healthy burgers. So far its working great! Cravings are so hard and a lot of its mental. Great episode.

After being on a less than 1200 calorie deficit for 15 years and finally being able to enjoy food. Cravings are something that I learned how to ignore and/or control, specially sweets. Now, if my macros and calorie count allows, instead of eating a whole bag of Oreos. I allow myself to eat no more than 3 just to get the craving out of the way. Thank you for all the amazing info!!

Isometrics are so undervalued and underestimated! I’ve been using isometrics on and off for a very long time. First as part of my yoga practice, which takes it to another level. There were strength and size gains, as well as a cardiovascular component. Without having to do muscle-wasting types of cardio, I can still increase my and lower my heart rate with dynamic resistance at will to get that cardiovascular benefit. Recently I incorporated isometrics into 5 x 5 training and it’s been tremendous. First, starting out with bodyweight 5 x 5 movements and quickly moving up to isometric motions & holds throughout. Now I’ve been doing the 5x5 with resistance bands but also continuing to incorporate isometrics into that. While isometrics can plateau quickly, the fact that I am also changing how I’m incorporating the isometrics, they seem to continue to be effective. Isometrics are more of an add-on to whatever training I’m doing instead of the sole modality. As I progress to other training, dumbbells barbells, non 5x5 training, etc, different forms of isometrics will always be in my back pocket. I also continue to use them, coming full circle, within my yoga training in new ways. Thank you for putting a much needed focus on such a forgotten and underutilized But fantastic component of training.

Awesome informations as always! The hunger and cravings are interesting. I used to eas 5 or 6 small meals a day and I was always hungry and crawing something. I was also tired and irritable. Then I changed it to 3 big meals a day and I started to feel much better. No crawings at all, no hunger, more energy. Then I tried intermittent fasting and it was disaster! I was so hungry that when was time to eat, I overate like crazy. Everybody is different but for me 3 meals a day are perfect. I think everybody should try different things and see how they feel :).

I really enjoyed the conversation about cravings and hunger pains. I was a wrestler growing up and had plenty of opportunities to go without food to make weight. I was able to realize that I can be uncomfortable by not eating and everything will be okay. One of my biggest pet peeve’s is when my wife and kids tell me they are “Starving” and they ate 2-3 hours ago.

When traveling in the past, I'd utilize three training tools/modalities in particular: band training, calisthenics, and isometrics (particularly overcoming isometrics). You don't need much for these but can still get decent results depending on your goals.

I agree with Adam about eating the 4-6 meals a day. My cravings are high for sugary food when I feel like my energy is low or I feel like my blood sugar is getting low. When I plan my meals for more of a schedule my energy level stays the same and I don’t get into a depleted feeling and won’t crave the sugar as much for that quick energy boost. If I’m not on a “schedule” I will often go way to long without eating and then find myself looking for that quick fix.

I find the segment about cravings very interesting because I often talk to others about patience and how, that if you pray for patience God will put you in situations where you have to practice that patience in order to build up your own patience and make it stronger. Some may find it a helpful to battle through the craving in order to make them stronger the next time they encounter it. I find it similar to building muscle, you have to break up the muscle slightly then let it rest and recover in order for it to grow.

One of the biggest ways to stop my cravings from winning is eating 4-6 meals a day. I’m one that’s just constantly wanting food and it gets really hard, but when I set myself up to have meals at each times of the day - I can look at the time and be like it’s an hour and a half before my meal that I prepared, I can make it. Where as with 3 meals, it would be like 4+ until next meals and I’d guilty in and grab the first thing I see.
