You must be joking because Gainesville is like Disney land compared to skid row or some other areas in Oakland etc you just showed the poverty stricken areas which majority of city’s have . It all depends on where you are at in G-ville. Honestly there are not many areas in many cities that don't have homeless. We are in Florida of course people flock here to get away from cold weather. Also Gainesville is not all litter... come on man it's in the areas where you see the homeless not give an eff, even poor neighborhoods take pride in their space, and honestly I feel bad for them that they at some point and time threw life away and gave up (broken). I certainly would not want the police to harass them, but if you litter and get caught or I do make no mistake you'll get fined. I am defending Gainesville because one drive through the town does not really rep the city, and no I'm not a resident there but live in an out lying area. To all the people saying Gainesville won't/doesn't help the homeless, well that is not true either... I mean you have to want to help yourself at some point too, right??? There are resources to try to help people, the majority of people do not want those resources as it would involve getting clean no matter what vice of choice may be. I personally know someone her, and husband their children ended up homeless and there were/was a resource to keep her family together and get on their feet, she did not tell me this had happened until months later. She and her husband are a great example of utilizing a facility for their greater good. When you stop and offer up work and you are told to EFF off because they can make more money panhandling that is a them issue. The St Francis House offers much aid, resources ect. many of the homeless reject the service ( the vets with mental health issues ect.) seem to use this resource for food, sleeping and showering. At one point there was a dude standing off an exit by 75 flipping people off if they didn't donate to him, as he held a sign asking for $5 or more dollar donations. All the people with judgement feel free to call any of the shelters/volunteer spaces and offer your service and possible resolutions to help the people, because it is a true issue, and it should not all be laid off on the city/ county as their responsibility alone. Also right near The St Francis House is Gainesville community church they have wonderful services to help people, Salvation Army offers services.

I've lived in Gainesville my whole 56+ years and seen it go from a nice college town to an ugly college city. Homeless and crime is steadily rising, and good paying blue-collar jobs are continuously banned by local government. Liberal politics along with the crooked politicians and the crooks who they appoint are to blame. You see...the professors, politicians, lawyers, doctors, heads of law enforcement and well-to-dos that cause these problems live in secluded areas that are meticulously maintained by the high taxes while the rest of the county is allowed to degrade. Those run-down apts are owned by those wealthy people and are not held to city codes. If they were owned by the middleclass, they would have been condemned. Roads outside of rich neighborhoods and not around universities or ways to get to super shopping areas like Bulter plaza are horrible and only receive patch jobs. It's only going to get worse as the elite live better while the rest of us fight it out in the mud.

You've just basically described how these liberal democrats operate. They live well off and spend all their time behind gated communities and well-to-do neighborhoods while voting feel-good policies that ultimately perpetuate and exacerbate these problems. I live and grew up around them and it is mind-boggling how delusional and completely out of touch they are with reality. These are the snobby self-righteous holier-than-thou jerks clinging to their moral high grounds while completely ignoring the consequences of their campaigns who you have to vote against.

Grew up in Gainesville. It is NO WHERE near as bad as California, and it is glaringly obvious you've never actually spent time around California homeless to be making that comparison. Gainesville is so peaceful and friendly compared to any big Democratic city. Yes GNV is probably the most liberal corner of Florida and it's probably a little more homeless on the streets than 10 years ago, but the severity PALES in comparison to NYC, Chicago, SF, or LA. Glad people like you are making a big fuss out of it though. Will keep pressure on the situation, unlike these other cesspool Democratic cities. I need to move out of NYC asap.

This video makes absolutely no sense. It’s grossly embellished when you hear “this is worse than California” after seeing just three homeless people. Wow. Then the rest of the video is poorly recorded with random “oh wow, look at all the trash” and lots of wind because this dude thinks it will serve as some special sound effect. I lost it laughing when he says “there’s three kids in hoodies “don’t get too close in case you have to leave” I think this guy has seen too many movies and clearly doesn’t conceal carry. There is absolutely no place in Gainesville where you will be a victim of car jacking while making a stop. It is clear to me this guy has never driven through Albuquerque’s War Zone which I have. Not even in Albuquerque did I feel unsafe and the crime rate compared to Gainesville is astronomical. Please work on getting your facts straight pertaining to comparisons of which state is worse off. Every town has its nice parts and not so nice parts. If you want a place with virtually zero trash visit Tokyo. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how this video has this many views and likes. Back in 1984 when I was in middle school we lived in Northwood Pines and it was a cool neighborhood. We had a pool in back and friends were always there to swim. Well roll the tap to 3 years ago I was driving around Gainesville with my wife showing her where I grew up. About an hour later we were stopped at a Publix and I bumped into one of my dad's friends and told him what we were doing. I mentioned the house with the pool where they always came over for cookouts and parties and his face went pale. He begged me to never drive through that neighborhood again it was VERY bad and people get robbed and shot there. That was very heartbreaking to hear it had become that bad there. I still visit Gainesville once in a while and yes I do see the severe degradation of many areas in town. Very sad for a major university town. Tallahassee is nowhere this bad but does have it's areas too. Thanks for the video.

When I drove through I did notice lots of houses needing some work and yards were not grass they were dirt from 5 or 6 cars in the yard. Off NW 34th Blvd close to US 441. A Super Walmart is on the corner now since I lived there. The house we lived in with the pool looked the same as when we lived in it but they took out the pool. A good area to look in Gainesville is off Newberry Road heading west of town. Hamilton Heights is a good place and a little farther out are some newer subdivision areas too. The University area is ALWAYS crowded and traffic. Can give more town stats if you want. If you have kids the local schools are good, I liked them. Graduated from F. W. Buchholz in 1990 it was in my opinion the better one in town for location and not too crowded.

I just hit my 1 year in Florida (Destin). And today the Wife and I decided that it is time to get out of here. There is nothing to do here, everything is so far. The things we like to do are 5-7 hours away. We are Caribbean/Asian, and the people here are not the best. I didn’t know that rednecks and Wyoming cowboys were 2 different type of people/culture. Schools are terrible, teachers openly make racist remarks. Our Florida experiment failed.

@@MikeX3000 I have lived in 7 States, 5 overseas countries. I’m not saying this area is the worst. It’s just that it doesn’t fit our lifestyle at all, and the kids are suffering in school with the overcrowded classes, inconsistent school buses, which often they don’t make it to the routes because of breakdowns or lack of drivers, so entire routes miss school. Kids are in HS and Middle School, always have had 4.0 GPA. Love the weather, and love driving on 98/30A. We don’t do the beach thing, a year here and we just look at it from a beachside restaurant. We don’t like to cook our skin in the sun. Lol Wife and I born and raised in the US. Both recently retired from the Military.

I lived in several hoods. A lot of times the trash was never picked up for weeks. I personally would call the sanitation company to have them come out. This may be another passive aggressive thing amongst the garbage truck driver or company to make a certain community look bad just like with taxi, lyft or pizza drivers some neighborhoods they refuse to go to or may not be a top priority on its list because of the demographics . Also not many grounds person’s working in the hood fear of maybe being shot or jumped. No garbage truck for weeks, no grounds person and lots of wind will cause lots of debris and smell. Sad but true. 🙏🏽

I 100% agree with you. I use to live in Gainesville in my early 20s and I grew up 30 minutes outside so I know that city. Most of the hoods that were shown in the video have always looked like that unfortunately. Also, when I use to work for a food delivery place, the neighborhood at the 13:30 mark was on the do not deliver list and I had friend that lived back there with her boyfriend I used to chill at their place all the time.

You're spot on about everything you said. The food is horrendous (especially this dude that sells breakfast sandwiches on a dirt lot in Lincoln Heights. Total trash and yells at his help. He hit his ex girlfriend that took him in. Saw the police escort him out of her place...nuts. Another dude that cuts hair in a freaking parking lot gave antifreeze to some local lady's cat....so many lunatics here), the only thing anyone ever talks about is the Gators football games, everyone drives so freaking slow for no reason, and there's little economic opportunity. Gainesville is a wasteland. If you want to be bored out of your kind and are easily impressed by a university, I guess this place can work for some people. But if you have real golas and ambitions for your life, stay away from here. Businesses are shutting down left and right and there are so many vacancies in plazas. The city isn't for the young and hopeful...

It only look bad cause it’s congested in one area we have a whole homeless camp called Grace where homeless can camp and live .. you only see the homeless out in day time at night majority have actual places to stay the . Lol Gainesville is beautiful and no different than any other city you go to .. everywhere has homelessness but before you make a whole video talking bad about a city maybe you need to get a tour guide from someone who is actually from there so your opinions will actually hold weight then 💪💯💯💯💎🎯

I traveled on a road trip from FL to CA and back in 2019 then last year up to WI over to SD and back home to FL, I have seen a lot , and the homeless are everywhere , the southern states are poor and struggling , small towns dying . CA is more populated is all but the problem is everywhere including FL. Hell FL sends immigrants to other states , many states send their homeless on a bus to FL 😂 , it's warm all year long , works out great for homeless better then freezing snow. They give them a bus ticket to FL with some pocket change .Cities in FL hide them or try to , it interrupts with tourism or selling properties and rentals. Sarasota at one time was named the meanest city , they became very harsh with any loitering , and homeless and just made them move north of downtown. Those high rise condos are expensive the owner of condos , didn't want to see any poor homeless on their streets or sidewalks , Sarasota police got right on that mission , after all those wealthy property tax payers are more important for the city and downtown then the poor and homeless.. Just because one doesn't see them does not mean they don't exist. To those wealthy that have made their environment to only what they want to see vs opening eyes to reality, seem to feel far removed which does not help to solve the problem . Many are substance abusers and or mentally ill.
