The story behind the song makes it so incredible. The author lost his business and his house in the great Chicago fire. He sent his wife and daughters to England to get away for a while and the ship sunk and he lost both of his daughters. On a ship to meet his wife in England, he wrote this song while over the exact spot his daughters were lost. Through all of that he could still write that it is well with my soul.

He and his wife, Anna, lost four daughters on that trip, not two. And shortly before he lost his wealth in the Great Chicago Fire, he and Anna lost their little son to scarlet fever. Can you imagine the grief at having lost ALL FIVE of your children??? 😭😭

I was working on 9/11, "birthing babies". We went through panic and anger, and around 11AM, we turned off the radio, joined hands for a prayer, and spent the rest of the day caring for the 13 babies we had born that day. Around 4PM, my daughter called to tell me there would be an interfaith service at our church, and the choir, of which I was a member, would be singing, and could I be there? I said yes, and asked what we would be singing. It was Mark Hayes arrangement of "It is Well With My Soul". I burst into teats for the first time that horrible day. I still get a lump in my throat every time I hear or sing this song.

It’s easy to praise the lord when everything is going great . But when you’re in the depths of despair and still praise him, you know your faith is real. I lost my daughter in 2003. She suffered a fatal heart attack a day after she turned 35. I was devastated. After my initial hurt, I knew if I was going to get through this I had to call on Jesus . I would read my bible day and night and I began to realize, God was guiding me to the scriptures I needed to heal. I still miss her all these years later and look forward to seeing her again. Because of God’s grace and mercy , no matter what comes my way, it is well with my soul.

My Beautiful Mother, Best Friend taught me after my Earthly Father suddens passing while on vacation held it all together until we returned back and the 1st night she slipped into bed with my little sister. Then I heard her emotions, crying etc. I was very blessed to have both parents that excepted Jesus Christ as our Savior, Amen. Before we had our 1st night at the motel my Earthly Father in the car sat and turned to my brother and I about Jesus. He told us that we'll have a new and glorified body if we surrender to Jesus. He wasn't afraid to die and I feel my Earthly Father was telling us "It is Well With My Soul." He never told my Mother he was dying of cancer. He loved her very very much. Every morning early my Mother had her relationship with our Heavenly Father. Reading Gods Holy Word(Bible), praying, devotions, and praising our Heavenly Father John 3:16 ❤. Jesus paid in full for our sins. He is the Way, the Truth and Life- Eternity with Him in his Kingdom Come! THIS SONG was sung at my Mothers funeral. She loved these peaceful words. Yes I agree. We all will pass through and I couldn't disagree because I agree. "IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL." You all sang this so beautifully ❤! Dad passed at 58. Mom at 94. I will see them again but see Jesus 1st. He made the way for me. We've got a faithful God don't we? ✝️ 🛐 🙏

Lastly, LORD when they call on YOU in earnest prayer to come into their hearts to be born again (repentance manifesting itself in a changed life), I pray that YOU WILL GIVE them the blessed assurance of their salvation because nothing breaks YOUR HEART, or tears YOU apart like when they cry from the trials of the devil who comes to slander, falsely accuse, steal, kill & destroy. Only by drawing nearer to YOU LORD will put them on a path to a glorious one way trip winding upward to YOU where pain is not welcome because the heart will never break anymore. For ONLY YOU UNDERSTANDS our tears since YOU LOOK at the heart, while humans look at the flesh. O LOVE that will not let them go. When they don't have the strength to try, and have cried all they can cry hear their hearts that need YOU more today than yesterday. Many thanks LORD for speaking TRUTH in our lives TO BLESS those who are not offended by THEE. I’ve studied Islam, Issa is NOT Yeshua of the NT not their Allah is not our YHWH of Adam of any of the Bible prophets. Few example is of this is that Islam considers Yeshua as mere human being who never died and resurrected for our salvation and YHWH of the Bible never took all day to create Adam and Adam had to ask their allah to “please finish him by sunset if he can” and there’s 100 s more evidence of their Allah not being Christian’s YHWH and Yeshua. Muslims can fool uneducated Christians but not the ones who knows their book from Hadith to all the scholar translated Quran since first recording of Quran is done by Uthman after battle of Al Yamada in 632 AD. But I do wish more Muslims will be freed from 5 pillars of Islam and do shahada in Arabic because their Allah can only understand Arabic and not all knowing. Jesus is Lord almighty and no one else no good works can get you to heaven. Only through believing His blood cleansed my soul and repented through HS. Amen. P.S. it’s up to you but wish you would stick to KJV original manuscript of Greek translation rather than ESV, NIV etc. there’s many verses missing and changed in newer translations. And Rev. 22:19 written any that takes or subtract from the book will be stricken from book and judged harshly.

The hymn "It Is Well with My Soul" was penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. Spafford wrote this beautiful hymn after suffering the loss of his children and the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, as a testament to the salvation he found in Jesus through the good and bad times in life. I too have seen the good, bad, and the ugly of life. I have lost loved ones who were victims of cancer, heart failure, shame, neglect, depression, and suicide. What allows the disparities in life to find and avenue of grace...worship!! Worship even when things aren't well with your soul. Worship reconciles brokenness with wholeness. It may leave a scar...but scars are a reminder of what caused us harm. When my mother died, God gave me lyrics that said, "Nothing is Beyond the Grace of God". I know this to be true because I too, was without hope and running from demons in my life, like my mother was. In my case, mercy said no to suicide, but unfortunately mercy said yes to her taking her own life. She is now in heaven with my father, who I didn't get to say goodbye to but I'm sure I still his voice whispering in my inner ear....and I think it's what is similar, to what David is singing about.... that it is well with my soul. You should check out the beautiful soul in the green satin jacket, Janet Pascal, at 3:09 in the video, where her countenance shines as she watches David belt out those high notes, you can clearly see that it is well with her soul, as I'm sure it is today. Unfortunately, she left us too soon. Someone who I hope to see face to face and say to her that "I too, was never ashamed of the Gospel. The one thing that I can assure you is that we are all apart of God's family - whether dead or alive. We're all connected by the anointing that connects us all through the intangible presence of the Holy Spirit. It's only through the presence of the Trinity, that we are all reminded that it is not only well with our souls, but that our souls are eternally linked by a connection that was established over 2000 years ago on a cross, where Jesus replaced the chaos in the world with grace and gave us the capacity to choose our own fate.
