We still may be excited when we watch the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer, and hey, maybe after watching this we'll be checking out A Perfect Circle do their cover of Imagine, but stars singing, no piano or any instruments, reciting lyrics that are not applicable to the world's current situation.. yeah, wasn't a great idea. I agree. I legitimately couldn't think of a WORSE song to have chosen. Had it been any other song the backlash wouldn't have been anywhere near as bad, at most people would just make jokes that they aren't good at singing or are attention-seeking, but they had to choose a song that basically insults and preaches to most of the public. I'm not insulted by it (I've always been aware of the song and I've always disliked it for being pretentious), but I am astonished at how lacking in both self-awareness and awareness of the realities of the real world these celebrities are.

The road to hell is truly paved with good intentions. I understand that these celebrities, whom are also out of jobs right now (kind of), are trying to help lift the spirits of us mere mortal beings but they are not suffering like we are. There are gas stations, grocery stores and other convenience stores in my area that are damn near bare with essentials. You can't find hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes or toilet paper anywhere here. Not only that but thousands of people in my area alone are out of a job right now and are suffering yet these celebs want to sing Imagine to us. This was just an ill timed event. Celebrities are not clueless to the situation, they're just clueless as to how people who are not them are effected by it.

The problem is that the song “Imagine” is actually a lecture, a sermon about materialism. It’s designed to afflict the comfortable. It’s not written to comfort anyone. It is neatly couched with a soft-pedaled melody, which is a sweet disguise for a harsh judgement on all humanity. She could have told everyone what key it was in and provided a backing track so it sounded better. I don’t think there was any ill intent, just incredibly sloppy preparation, which considering they make a living being perfectionists, was disappointing.
