I think that because the s series launches earliest and the price of the SD is still high when compared to the later launch dates of other flagships, Samsung is compelled to use their own chipset. Coupled with fact that prices vary starkly in different countries, it would make economic sense to find a cheaper alternative without compromising the form factor.

@Viewer131285 жыл бұрын
it's not a compact phone though, it's as big as a galaxy s5, which was a flagship phone. as for the s10e snapdragon, the battery performance makes all the difference. s10e is also nearly same width as s10 (because s10 just distorts the sides of the screen/image, making s10 better since it's flat. 1080p is plenty for this screen size, and the s10 has poorer battery performance than s10e even if you change it to use 1080p. this means that the s10 will drain like hell on its native resolution (probably the complaints from s8 and s9 users about the s10's crappy battery are due to this). And while the s10+ has better battery performance (at 1080p...), it's only due to the huge battery, which would probably degrade faster than s10e's battery, making s10e's battery healthier over time. the only thing s10e doesn't have is the telephoto lens. that 2x makes the difference of losing facial features vs having recognizable but bad quality facial features. in other words, the telephoto lens on the s10 and s10+ is not worth the $200+(?) difference in price. so, you can just buy a telephoto lens accessory (with even more zoom) for the s10e for a cheaper price. in the end, with the s10e, you will have better battery longevity, better telephoto lens magnification, more reasonable size, no distorted image on the sides of images, and a reliable side fingerprint sensor that also lets you pull the notification bar down.. So, basically, the only reason left to get the s10+ is the mainly taller screen, which is good for movies and stacking 2 tabs together, but then you'd get the distorted screen which makes no sense if you pack so many pixels to improve image quality (which only 30-50% can tell under abnormally close viewing distance side-by-side) only to distort the sides (which everyone can see)... and battery saving options + bixby is awesome for saving battery. bixby is also awesome for being able to give many commands to apps that google assistant cannot. and then there is still the samsung good lock app with many features... s10e on sale for $550, and it's probably the best phone around as of this moment (overall). -it has headphone jack, ip68 rating, expandable storage, good battery performance, dynamic amoled screen, no curved screen, premium build (unlike other "lite" phones), etc. -u can buy the best telephoto lens accessory and it will still be cheaper than any current flagship. PS: ofc, it even has wireless charging for a "lite" version phone, but i don't use wireless charging and fast charging to preserve battery life, and it already charges fast without fast charing on.

Yep, the Exynos version in the UK is a deal breaker for me. At least the upcoming Note will have caught up, just about, with a 7nm Exynos, just as Qualcomm upgrades to a SD855+, so Note wise again, in the UK, sold an inferior Exynos Note at a more expensive price. The battery life is the killer, its about 25% less efficient on the Exynos, especially on standby. There is every chance Samsung throttles the US SD version so that it doesn’t completely make a mockery of the Exynos version? I know Samsung will catch up in 2021 with their 3nm SOC, but until then no thanks Samsung in the UK. The A13 chip will kill the S10+ and Huawei with their 5g chip in their new Kirin could top both. Samsung are last at the moment with the Exynos and bearing in mind they are now as expensive you really have to be a Samsung super fan to buy an Exynos S10+. The SD S10+ is nice, though already after a few months outdated. I get that, Qualcomm knows that Huawei and Apple are going to make fun of the SD855 so they have had to up their game with a mid-year upgrade, but that makes the S10+ and other SD855 devices fall behind. Samsung wants to be first with any new Qualcomm chip to market to the teen sector, but that means by Q4 of 2019 they have a far inferior product and explains why the price has been in free fall. Why buy something without a SD855+, UFS3, latest RAM (Note rumored to have), latest 5g modem, improved cameras, fast charging, fast wireless charging, etc. Having the s10+ for 4 years without the future proofed features makes it a bad choice.
@axhng5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we'll just have to wait and see how it goes on the Note10. At least the price over here in Singapore has gone down enough to short of make up for the chipset, so it's still not that bad. But otherwise, I can totally understand if some consumers wants to vote with their wallet and refuse to pay for the Exynos variant. Even though, on its own, the Exynos 9820 is probably still decent enough for regular consumers. But then again, I don't think it would be good for Samsung to just use snapdragon as well, since monopoly in the market isn't good for consumers too. And I don't want a repeat of the Snapdragon 810 fiasco which caused almost every other Android phone to suck that year. 😂 Let's hope it'll be better for the next Exynos chipset!
@mdrahman67325 жыл бұрын

I feel cheated when Samsung discriminates between its customers. That's really unfair. I am presently using Note 9 but despite having a 4000 mAh battery, it struggles to last an entire day. I do not play games. I have only 4-5 third party apps but still it drains out. I figured out that the problem is with the Exynos chipset. What's the point in having a costly phone when you can't use it to its full potential just because of its mediocre battery life? I am going to sell it off as I am frustrated with Samsung now. I am not too excited about Note 10 either as removing the headphone Jack has left me heartbroken😥😥😥

@@axhng but phonebuff shows that both phones drain the same percentage of the battery life. the difference was in standby time.
@axhng5 жыл бұрын
@@davideprofita3151 sure, i did notice it draining more on standby for the exynos model. But even during performance tests and geekbench battery test, or just daily use, the battery drained faster on the Exynos version for me as well. And it wasn't just once or twice, it was consistently draining more for me throughout multiple tests I did. Maybe he got a unit with better batter or I got one with slightly defective battery, I have no way to tell. But I can only report based on what I personally experience with those devices. Also the Exynos S10e I used in this video is actually newer than the SD855 by about a week or 2, so wear and tear shouldn't be a factor too. Maybe another factor is that I used the phones mostly on mobile data. Didn't use wifi as much since i already have too many devices on the network, so don't want to deal with another variable. So it could very well be the modem that's making the difference too.
@davideprofita31515 жыл бұрын
@@axhng it's really interesting, i think that there are some variables. the first is the country, and the network used, maybe the exynoss modem doesen't have the right frequence, because in the anandtech test, they tests the same efficiency of both modem. the second one could be the usage patterns of the new s10 e, because the ia has to have time to understand your usage. i have s10 plus in europe, and now my phone have terrific battery life. in lte i can reach 6 hours of screen of time of heavy usage, and in the worst situation of signal, i have 1% battery drain for hour.
@axhng5 жыл бұрын
@@davideprofita3151 Not really sure though. since the exynos version is the one sold officially in singapore too and the Sd855 is an imported unit from Hong Kong. Also both phones went through a factory reset before I tested them. Maybe the larger S10+ model has larger surface area for antennas or what, resulting in better reception, and less struggling to get better network. Or maybe they really improved the efficiency or ironed out some bugs in the newer patches. haha. it's really hard to say.

Actually speed wise, the difference really isn't huge. Sometimes the Exynos is slightly faster too. The slightly bigger difference is probably in thermal performance and battery standby, but unless you're a heavy user, it shouldn't be a huge difference. 😂

Actually, the problem can get bigger beyond the millimetric second difference. Just look at Exynos 990 on this year's S20 lineup that was marred with performance throttling issue. Ironically, the Snapdragon-powered S20s never suffer such issue at all.

Ok, so i did test the audio out and I couldn't really hear a huge difference on my Samson SR850 or KZ ZSN Pro. Those are more like budget audio gear and I'm listening to like compressed audio like aac or mp3 files (mostly 320kbps) anyway. Or maybe my ears are just not as sharp. BUT I did some digging and found a great breakdown on anandtech on the audio portion. According to them, while the Exynos variant typically have better DAC (wolfson/cirrus logic) inside them, they found that it's still using an older audio chip that has been in use since S8, and it has since been surpassed by the SD855's audio chip. But in the end, I personally couldn't hear a big difference, so I didn't really thought it was a big enough point to be worth mentioning in the video. www.anandtech.com/show/14072/the-samsung-galaxy-s10plus-review/16 Camera wise, actually it depends on your liking too.
