Now try zooming in on the phone pictures and see how quickly it all starts falling apart. Also, try shooting something other than portraits in perfect conditions. Try with a landscape, a moving car, a sports event or animals. You'll see how far the statement that "it's going to be impossible to tell the difference" holds up. Phone cameras are great for social media, but they aren't acceptable for commercial work due to resolution/detail. That will never change now that mirrorless have AI too.
@LeeZavitz11 ай бұрын
Obviously a camera is superior and will be for along time. It’s physics. phones are emulating the look. But I’m just saying in a few years if the AI progresses rapidly enough it will be able to take that tiny phone sensor and do magic with it. I have a hard time accepting that but we will see it soon. Even if it’s in 10 years

@@LeeZavitz If anything, this makes me more excited to see where cameras are heading since It's a Sony sensor in the S24. The next generation of mirrorless should have the option to post-process in-body based on custom profiles. Mobiles are driving camera tech, so it's good for everyone.

2 things. 1. I'd turn of some of that extra color/tone processing for HDR. HDR is way overblown and I don't like the washouts that happen with lighting and shadows. That can certainly help bridge the gap between the Samsung/iPhone/DSLR processing 2. Think of the potential of a DSLR with AI processing built in. It could help camera maintain a place in photography instead of feeling less relevant with the improvements of smartphones.

I have the S24 Ultra as well as Sony A7IV. Tested out the Portrait mode, the edge detection is okay but there's sharp edges from where the subject is cut out whereas on a real camera it's nice & soft. It's still good for a phone but it's a shame they haven't integrated AI into stuff like this & camera in general. Another thing I noticed is that Samsung lacks the depth understanding. Sometimes pieces of clothing further away from the face is equally as sharp as the face which gives it away that it's taken with a phone. The over sharpening is also a little too aggressive (but it's the same with most smartphones tbh). I think Apple does portrait mode better with its 24MP photos & Lidar sensor to understand depth better.

This video is about portrait mode. Not pro or expert mode. It would be much more obvious that it’s a phone if I used those modes because there would be no background blur like you get from a real camera. The whole purpose of this video is to see how well Samsung can emulate the look of a wide aputure lens for portraits
