Galaxy S24 Ultra Vs Galaxy S22 Ultra, Is it worth upgrading?

Is the S24U the better product? Yes...Of course. Is it worth 3x the price of the S22U? Not to me. Results may vary. Just picked up a mint S22U/512 for $480. Gotta say, I like it alot. Big jumps were made by the SD8G2 however, in regards to battery life, and GPU power especially. I think the S22 is the sweet spot currently, if you can find a good example for a decent price. If I'm paying $1300 for a phone, it's gonna be a ZFold. That's me though. Great video btw. Cheers!

Exactly. Samsung charges a *huge* markup for Ultras, on par with the markup Apple charges for all of their overpriced toys. The 24 Ultra does not cost them much more to manufacture than the S24 and S24+, and it's not like they had to do a billion dollars in extra R&D just for the extra telephoto lens and S-pen. They rely heavily on people feeling FOMO and thinking they need to have the "best" phone. Buying used is much wiser. Better for the environment and better bang for your buck.

I'm running the S22 ultra, and as for your comment about reflectivity in daylight, I'm surprised. In my usage the reflectivity that there is is far from a deal breaker when none of the devices around me can become a fraction of the way close to being as bright as this phone can be under direct sunlight. Obviously the S22 ultra has been overshadowed by the S24 Ultra, but for the money, I'd wait for the S25 ultra or S26 ultra by which time the S22 will have become long in the tooth.

I'm debating what I'm gonna do. I have the s22 ultra. And usually upgrade every 2 yrs. But I do like the curved screen more but it's not a deal breaker either. What's got me waiting is the vivid screen issue. So I'm waiting to see if they fix it with a update. And right now my carrier is offering 1k trade in for my s22 ultra. But I'm thinking of keeping my s22 as a back up since it's still in perfect condition and works perfectly still.

That's the thoughts I battled with to. Part of me wishes I kept the 22, but the trade in was way to good a deal. I could not have sold it for the price of trade in. And next time I upgrade to whatever Ill have a device that's 2 years newer. It will be interesting to see the update. Its disappointing at first but the anti reflective glass is a whole new level of viewing anywhere but your house. Hopefully they fix it a bit. Might pick up a 23 ultra just to have around when prices drop a little more. Last of the best spec curve displays. I miss that. @@joshuat5140

@@16abind right on for the reply. So overall your happy with the s24 coming from the s22? Also I agree on the trade in deals. 1k for the s22 ultra is hard to turn down imo too. So I'm leaning towards getting the s24 ultra because I'm hearing Samsung has a update to fix the dull screen with a vivid option slider. So that's the only real issue I hear about with the s24 ultra. So woth the vivid screen fix. I'm sure I'm going to be happy with the s24 ultra. I do wish it had a curved screen but it's not a deal breaker. Thanks for the input.

I am so far. Its just to good of an improvement all around to ignore. Am I bothered by that non infinity looking display, heavily. Something about it just made it feel more magical, but I think I stick with the conclusion I had in the video. The 23 vs the 24, if your not a techie, you aint gonna notice much other than the screen and a tiny bit of speed. But the 22, its genuinely a tad slow compared to the 24. The 24s animations aren't lightning, but you can change that with Dev options, its faster doing things in apps. Like browsing the internet, or just doing things within the apps it just is lightning. Not thinking, no waiting, and the other improvement from the 22 that is most noticeable is the power management. the Gen1 chip was known to be on the lesser side of efficient for the battery and power management. The Gen3 is like a perfected gen of the Snapdragon 8s. Its so amazingly efficient on battery while being even more powerful. How you do both or all manufactures do both every year is really a modern marvel. But you make the choice. I'm not selling you on it if you don't want it. I did not personally care for the weird artifacts the 22s video had as well. The 24s camera is the first major overhaul to Samsung's processing on everything. And it got much better. Not perfect but much better than the weirdness I did not and have never liked before. @@joshuat5140

I installed Galaxy Max Hz on my S22 Ultra and the battery is fantastic now. I used to have to charge my phone like three times a day. I don't need no S24 Ultra

I had a Note 10 plus that I loved. Traded it in for the S22 Ultra due to battery life had declined beyond acceptable levels. It was in pristine condition otherwise. I regretted my decision because for what I use the phone for, it wasn't enough of an upgrade. Sure battery life was better, but the 22 Ultra was thicker, and heavier, and think the note 10 looked better (looks are subjective, and many will disagree, which is fine- to each their own). So now I'm in the same position with my S22 Ultra with battery life starting to decline. I would like to wait for the S25 Ultra, but they have a good deal on the trade in. Since I don't know for sure what the actual design will look like, do I risk it and wait, or go for the 24? I am a super fan of the square edges and I'm worried the 25 will be too rounded, but it should be even better with battery life. Decisions decisions. 🤔

Unfortunately in Greece the trade in service is non-existent. The s22 Ultra is priced at best 385 euros while the s23 Ultra barely reaches 485 euros. So switching to a new model requires more capital. To be honest I can say that I am quite happy with the s22 Ultra Exynos Version. The only points I am not happy with are the night video capture (my second device iPhone 14 can capture a better night video :( not so much dark as the S22 Ultra )and the battery performance. Especially after 2 years of use its performance has definitely decreased and now it barely gets me through a day. In the morning with 85% and around 9 to 10 at night it is at 15-20% and needs charging. I plan to keep it for another one year and go for the S25 Ultra just in case it comes with a snapdragon processor in Europe again.

I use my s22 ultra more than 90% of users, so more going to the s24 ultra due to my high usage and after 2 years burn in will start. Also battery life. Plus Samsung will give me $650 trade in plus military discount. Going to trade in 2 s22 ultras(me and wife) comes out to buy one get one free. Also I love tempered glass screen protectors and the s22 ultra does not work well with them. Think with trade in and discount is around $622 for each phone which is good deal if it lasts me 2 years.

$650???!!! I would only get $370 for my S22 Ultra 256GB, used since December 2022! I will sell it for $400 to someone I know... why do I get so much less than you?

I personally just upgraded to the S24 Ultra, and I gotta say it is worth every discounted penny! You will notice the difference. I am happy with the upgrade. Everyone in the comments is awesome and has valid points as well. The only reason i upgraded is bc my S22 Ultra broke lol

Good reason. I agree with you. It isn't like a whole new revolutionary phone but the perfected version of the slab the ultra has been thus far. It's not for everyone and waiting another year for some people is a good decision to

The improvements are marginal and the screen is flat, which I dislike. The reflective resistance and HDR is noticeable, however. Regardless, I'm sending mine back since I just can't get behind the flat display. And I paint entire pictures on my S22U with no issues whatsoever.

@16abind if a company is going to ask for $1300 for a phone. And they are removing features that we liked that differentiated them.from iPhone. Audio jack gone. SD card, gone. Vivid saturated colors gone, and now the iPhone sounds better as well (the s22 u have didn't have good speakers, u need to co.pare with a s21 or s23) it sounds hollow and tinny after half way. But the washed out screen is the biggest issue. Andriod is about options. Is samsung keeps trying to be like apple...then I'll get an apple device and jump in their eco. It's better than Samsung anyway. I only use andriod for customization but that seems to be getting less and less every year.

i have the 15 pro max and get two days of battery with heavy use (youtube/mobile gaming/messenger texting etc) and i was considering going back to droid but apple has been catching up with customization (their new shortcut button can be used to even access teslas).@@TropicalMafia473

Im not sure its that insane, maybe to the android power user, I think apple and samsung/android are still vastly different animals. Apple people still wanna stay apple and android people wanna stay android. For the most part. Not everyone. But the speaker part I agree with you on. i was disappointed when I tried mine for the first time. It is not good. My S22 definitely is better in that regard @@TropicalMafia473
