Ah, I loved seeing this! I carve spoons, lovespoons particularly, and I also happen to enjoy the look of the 'lost wood' wood/resin pieces - perhaps I'll give that a try as well. FWIW, when I first learned to carve spoons, I asked, rather petulantly I'll admit, my mentor why we carved the whole thing, rather than using a bandsaw and bandsander to knock it down at least SOME. And he said that while we were learning, he wanted us to practice the technique with handtools to build that muscle memory up, but that he felt that once we had that skill in our hat, it was just as valid to use any and every tool at our disposal -- so I'd share his sentiment and say that your spoon carving method is perfectly fine! Lovely job, Peter!

Peter, if you ever have to handle curing overheated resin again, may I suggest getting some heat resistant gloves to have under your usual gloves? I used to handle rotisserie work some years back and we had what were basically just some cheap, thick, plain cotton gardening gloves. It wasn’t perfect protection, but it made a huge difference and allowed me to handle the skewers just moments after cooking had finished.
