As beautiful as OLEDs look, one important thing to keep in mind about them is PWM, which can trigger headaches and migraines in people. Having good LCD options is still very much a necessity until OLEDs flicker issues are properly fixed. LCD panels have also improved and can be incredible quality too. I have a legion pro laptop and a legion go, and the LCD panels are so beautiful, even if the colours lack the same punch as OLED panels. Just something to be mindful of!

Just to chip in. I am still rocking the s6 lite 2020 and after an average of 350 days a year of use, for well over 3.5 years, this one is starting to slow down just a bit. It's actually most noticable at start-up and how long apps need to load up now. But all of that I could live with. it's the buren in that starts after less than 10s of smth light on screen (and that we no longer get updates on the 2020) that pushed me to get me an upgrade. Went with the s9 FE+ instead of the 6 lite 2024 due to the bigger screen :) But man I gotta say, the s6 lite live is a frigging BEAST at it's price point.

I bought one about a month ago (partially on your recommendation - thanks!) and I love it. I honestly don't use it much for non-drawing purposes, so I can't speak for that, but after trying a few apps, I liked Infinite Painter, paid for the full version, and everythings fantastic. As someone just getting started with digital art from traditional, I found the transition waaaay better than my brief attempts with unscreened drawing tablets, which I just couldn't get used to. My only (v small) complaint would be that drawing does seem to drain the battery faster than I'd expected, but since I tend to get into the zone and draw for many hours in a row, it's not really a problem to have to give it a charge every night to top it up. Still, 10/10 would recommend!

Is there a significant difference in performance in performance and functionality between the s9 fe and the s6 lite?
@claepacitor9 ай бұрын
@@AlexTraynor-xk7hs mostly yes, if at least because S9 FE+ inherently has larger storage space and RAM. I use CSP EX, and from my experience, some functionalities were slow af while using S6 Lite (the most glaring for me being loading and importing textured brush can take forever to the point of triggering ANR, and I couldn't open comic workfiles with a lot of pages). Not to say S9 FE+ is perfect, but it's much of an improvement of experience. Loading and importing brushes are much quicker and do not cause the app to slow down for the most part. There are still slowdowns and lag, especially when using a lot of 3D models in larger canvas, but nowhere as severe as it was while I was using S6 Lite. I do light gaming too (Another Eden, Limbus Company, SaGa Scarlet Grace, Ex Astris, Love&Deepspace), and overall S9 FE+ is pleasant experience. I used to be unable to do battles in Limbus at all on S6 Lite (I'm cross-playing with PC version), and for AE I had to turn on the eco-mode (in-game mode that reduces visual effects and framerate to save battery) to prevent ANR. It no longer is the case with my S9 FE+. It can run Ex Astris no problem even at highest graphics setting. If there's one downgrade that I feel, though, is that for whatever reason my S9 FE+ doesn't always register my finger gestures even with sensitivity enhanced. I noticed that often times when using redo gesture (3-finger tap), it registers only 2 fingers (undo) even when I try to tap with more force. Another reddit user I talked to apparently encounters similar case, but I'm not sure whether this is isolated or not. It's annoying, but otherwise mitigable.

Nobody mentions in thier video that if you want 5G included you don't get to pick and which models you want for the size you want. Samsung has just one other 5G tablet it's the Galaxy Tab S9+ with a 12.4" display for $1150.00. I just want a 11" avergage notebook screen size. A tablet sceeen bigger than 6.8" LG V60 phone. So I have the LG G Tab X 10.1" with 4G LTE from 2016. It's Andriod Marshmellow and not supported by Google anymore. Tapping any app is so sluggish it can take multiple taps and like over 5 seconds for the app to respond to open up. After trying the tab s9 and the s10, as well as the ipad in tech stores over the last few weeks, the s pen seems SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the apple pencil, even though I prefer the galaxy tab otherwise and really dislike i(Pad)OS even though I use macOS daily I don't know why my experience was so different from Brad's, but here's what I've noticed, if anyone is interested: The palm rejection works in a bit of an odd way on the Samsung devices - Whenever you move the pen close enough to the screen for it's position to be detected (when you can see that little circle), any and all touch input on the screen is disabled until you lift the pen again. This makes it effectively impossible to hold down the side shortcuts in clip studio to e.g. make a straight line or constrain the aspect ratio of a circle. Luckily you can set those shortcuts to toggle instead of holding them down or connect a bluetooth keyboard. But any action where you would use your finger and the pen at the same time, or even using a menu while you're still hovering over the screen, is impossible. This is _almost_ a disqualifying factor in my eyes, but depends on your usecase. The Apple Pencil does not have that issue, as well as being usable at shallower angles. Over all the Apple Pencil just felt better and more well-rounded when trying it out, epecially with it's weight and the haptic feedback. But it's also a 150€ addon to an already relatively expensive tablet. I tried it again after a while and the difference between the Samsung tablet and the ipad in terms of tilt is way more noticable to me now. The pen doesn't respond at all, if you use it at any angle past maybe 40 degrees off perpendicular, which makes it significantly more frustrating to use for both writing and drawing. The S10s the store had on display didn't have that issue. The store employee I asked said that that's the intended functionality for the S9 series - I'm not sure if I buy that though, because that seems like a significant enough issue that I can't imagine no reviewer mentioning it… One major benefit of any android tablet over an iPad in my eyes is having what I would consider a "real" filesystem where I can work with folders like on a dektop OS and granting Apps limited storage access where applicable instead of having apps siloed to the extent they are on Apple and giving each app it's own storage. As someone who would also read and annotate documents on a tablet, as well as moving around files quite a bit, this is very important to me. microSD is a huge bonus, too, of course. The iPad definitely seems like its ecosystem of apps is a lot more refined though. On the other hand I personally really like that Android feels so much closer to the level of control you have on a desktop OS, even after it became increasingly locked down in recent years. Idk, I just wanted to throw my thoughts out into the world, maybe they're useful to someone else.

Also take in mind pad 6 only uses their gen2 pen and overtime they will discontinue some of the products while samsung is compatible with lots of pen (I recommend staedtler if you're not gonna use spen) and you can replace different types of nibs depending on what you like while gen2 from xiaomi doesn't

As far as a mid-ranged tablet goes, so far this is doing everything I want and more. I was able to get it with the slim keyboard included (as well as on sale and other discounts applied) for around $700CAN (the 12GB model). The slim keyboard cover doesn't have a trackpad, but that's fine, because I dislike trackpads (might as well just use the touchscreen) and got myself a compact bluetooth mouse to pair with it. It more or less doubles as a laptop as a result, good enough for all my writing/editing/drawing needs.

I really like your view and takes on things. As someone who does art on traditional pencil and paper and wants to get into digital art, your outlook on the tech you review is very different than any other tech reviewer. I think your reviews arent just beneficial to artists but to the everyday user aswell. Other tech reviewer just give you the specs on things and some might give you tips/tricks but youre giving your honest review of how you use it. Not only that but you also recommend tech thats considered outdated that every other tech reviewer on KZbin completely ignore and would consider obsolete

I still use an S8+ and it' pretty much my daily driver in everything but writing code (Android still lacks a good code editor although that may change with Googles Project IDX... if they ever get that running that is) and honestly... I'll probably keep using it for awhile yet unless the S10 has something so compelling that it can't be ignored. Samsung makes good tablets.

Hi Brad, is there a difference in performance between the normal FE and the FE plus for artwork? In procreate on the ipad your layer number is a direct correlation to the Ipad performance, is there anything similar to that on these Galaxy tabs? I'm looking to move from an ancient Ipad Pro to one of these, thanks for all your videos!
@benjamina69152 ай бұрын
@PeterMatthess Yes, there are differences. S9 Fe 128Gb - 6Gb RAM S9 Fe 256Gb - 8Gb RAM S9 Fe Plus 128Gb - 8Gb RAM S9 Fe Plus 256Gb - 12Gb RAM They are all sharing the same cpu/gpu, so they are all equally fast, but the work memory (RAM) differs. Technically, the more RAM, the larger size canvas you can work in and the more layers you can have. If the application imposes those limits like Procreate does. Not all applications do, but still I personally wouldn't buy the 128Gb model such limits are a concern. I've got the S9 Fe with 256Gb - 8Gb RAM and I'm very happy with it. I opted for the smaller screen, it's just easier to take with me everywhere. My work is done mainly in Clip Studio Paint and the latest artwork I finished is 7400x2000 pixels, has over 100 layers, is very detailed and the tablet handled it just fine. I had a Lenovo with 4Gb RAM and it was struggling with the larger sizes. I d o have an iPad Pro 12.9 M1 512Gb, but I just can't get used to all the limitations of iPadOS and the shortcomings of Procreate. Gave it to my wife and went back to Android and a smaller screen size. While technically the iPad is infinitely more powerful in day to day use and drawing I don't notice it at all. The S9 Fe is very responsive and I definitely prefer the s-pen.
@YodaTheAfroManАй бұрын
Not that you will feel, atleast for artwork. For intense gaming you’ll see a difference but for artwork not at all!

Does the USB-2 problem mean that it can still work with SuperDisplay, Spacedesk or similar options? Because that's a huge sticking point for me, and the full S9 is massively more expensive where I live.

@@sahiru It's an absolute shame how on a tablet this expensive and feature rich, they somehow are using a USB standard from literally twenty four years ago. One of the biggest draws for me was using SuperDisplay without lag, but I guess I will have to get a Wacom after all.

So, can you use the S9 Fe as a second screen for a Windows laptop with a cable? I know it's possible wirelessly, but I am writing a lot of notes, and I don't want to have a problem with lag. However, I also want to have all my data on one device.

i have the s9 fe and I really wish I had the ultra with 16gb ram cause I do 3D modeling. I can definitely see a difference in performance, where I start my work on the tablet and find I do my heavy lifting/high detail work on my S24 Ultra for the time being. I'd give the tablet a B minus. It's more powerful than an average ipad and the price is better, but I wish I got more bang for my buck.

@TheLonelyMoon11 ай бұрын
@pu11.__23 If media consumption is your priority, then consider S9 FE. the aspect ratio is way better for movies and KZbin. if you want gaming, I'd say go with iPad air. M1 performs better. If you want note taking, both will do just fine. my favorite note-taking app is Noteful, but there are plenty of alternatives for android. If you want to draw, it's up to you. I love Procreate, but CSP feels like home since I've been using it for years. I love how long apple pencils are. They hold like an actual pencil. S pens are small, fine for note taking, save for creator pen if you're gonna draw, unless you have a wacom stylus. if you're only gonna do note-taking, then yeah, cheap pens will do fine. do keep in mind that only apple pencils have pressure sensitivity

The hate towards Exynos is so forced. Exynos has improved since the 1380 processor, especially the new Exynos 2400 debuting on Galaxy S24 and S24+ last January. Even the Exynos 1280 seems to be performing well on the Galaxy A25 unlike when it came out with Galaxy A53 and A33.

Really great and honest review, you managed to say pretty much all the pros and cons of this amazing device and also to debunk misinformation about it, such as its alleged inability to run Dex or the impossibility to use it as a 2nd display. Its limitations are mostly due to the Exynos chipset, BUT imo people who seek for power in a tablet are just looking for the wrong kind of device: if you need a powerhouse then get a PC, if you need a gaming device then get a Switch etc... Instead, this product is just fine for note taking, drawing, watching multimedia contents, read stuff, browsing etc... The S Pen is just great while Dex is so underrated. The only detail that disappoints me about this device is the same that affects all Samsung devices: they are all overpriced imo and so are their official accessories. I almost fainted looking at the prices of its original keyboard and cover.
