Galaxyland Documentary Short | West Edmonton Mall Indoor Amusement Park

Once the largest indoor amusement park in the world, Galaxyland at the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, Canada has been welcoming guests since 1983. Famous for their Mindbender roller coaster, the ride remains the largest indoor coaster in the world, as well as one of the most intense. We had the chance to speak with Dean Kuly, the project manager for West Edmonton Mall, about the parks unique history and how it came to be.

I've seen a small handful of people that have said that the accident should have been mentioned, and I just have to disagree. This is just a short video that Taylor was very fortunately able to shoot on a quick trip and it is just a brief history on how the park came to fruition with a few fun facts along with a goal for the future. Yes, the accident was a major event in the history of the park, but it really isn't essential to the story on how the park came to be or why it is the way it is today.

As i said in your Mindbender video... Thank you so much for coming all the way from where ever you live to visit and ride Mindbender! You are lucky to have done so when you did and i'm glad you enjoyed your visit! 😁 Sadly there is no real reason to come back anymore as Mindbender has been shut down for a couple years but officially was pronounced dead this year😢 so unless they put something twice as or at least Just as nutz-buck-Fing-crazy as the Mindbender... yeaaaaa Nothing to see here folks! Kind of surprised but also not surprised that the major accident that happened on Mindbender wasn’t talked about. Seems like a big enough event that might be worth mentioning but also not worth mentioning so people get turned away.

Detroit Diezel I’ve been here and while Galaxyland is quirky, the weirdness works in its favor to provide something drastically different from your average amusement park experience. Mindbender is one of my favorite roller coasters of all time, only being marginally beaten for me by Skyrush, Maverick, Intimidator 305, and The Voyage in that order. So I consider it to be one of the greatest looping roller coasters to ever exist.

What's even better than Galaxy land is the World Water park in the same mall. But ya, definitely come to Edmonton, it's a really nice city of around 1 million people, just don't come in the winter

Olympia Looping actually used to be a very popular coaster here in N. California. My home park SF Discovery Kingdom used to have this coaster under the name "Zonga", it was the best ride there.

You are thinking of the wrong roller coaster, Olympia Looping has never operated in the US. I wouldn't even call Zonga the best Schwarzkopf, it looks uncomfortably intense, rough and jolty.

I got to look at Texas Tornado/Zonga/Tsunami on my visit to Astroworld, but the coaster was SBNO for me, unfortunately. I was new to coasters at the time, and it looked very scary. I don't know if I would've ridden it if it were operating, but it definitely looked cool. Looking at pics of Olympia Looping in Austria, it also looks cool, but I prefer the look of Texas Tornado. I have no idea how good of a ride either were or how they compare, and I never will.

Mindbender = Canadian trim breaks the ride. The circus circus adventure dome is so much better. El Loco is so badass and Canyon Blaster is a top 3 arrow looper.

Alan Shao there aren't any trim brakes on it. None of the mid course brake runs slow you down. Have you even ridden it?

Alan Shao they don't need to keep the momentum moving along. The ride is gravity driven the entire time after it crests the top of the lift hill.
