Galco's Soda Pop Stop, Los Angeles, California

Originally an Italian grocery store in downtown Los Angeles in 1897, Galco's has evolved in many ways since. The soda specialty store moved to its current location in the Highland Park section of L.A. in 1955. In 1995, when John Nese took over the store (from his father), he focused on sales of independent sodas. There are over 700 different brands and flavors of soda. Some are cold, but mostly room temperature. A lot of them are hard to find, and some sodas are made exclusively for the store. Galco's also has liquor such as craft beer and wine, as well as a deli and a large selection of old-school candy bars.
Also known as Galco's Old World Grocery, as the sign is still left up. There is a historical marker that tells brief information on Galco's.

I prefer this place over "Pops" in Oaklahoma. I don't think too many people know of this place but a good side stop on any Route 66 trip. So for fellow travelers this is in between Pasadena and Los Angeles off the 110 "Pasadena Freway" or Arroyo Secco Parkway. I spent WAY TOO much there on my last trip but worth every dime. I only knew about this because of the Through my lens guy. It's near the chicken boy statue, in that area. I like this and pop's but this has an old school feel.

I ended up buying half a dozen sodies from brands that I mostly never heard of. Can tell you the Cheerwine was awesome as always 🙂. Some were so so and good. My own creation was great as well 😁
