I have watched a lot of videos on where and how to find gold in rivers but yours are the best by far by showing the scientific reason why and where the gold will or should be. I wish I could take your class, I know I wouldn't fall asleep. LOL Thanks for making the videos.

Yet another great video with very good information. I can say you had my full attention and interest during the entire video unlike your class for some reason lol. I have always wanted to quit my job and live off the land and prospect gold. Yes, you're absolutely right. I've been brook trout fishing my whole life and have only started looking for gold a few years ago. It seems that where the trout hang out is where the gold deposits, maybe the big brook trout are guarding the gold, LOL.

Does a river or creek have to be bedrock at the bottom, or within a few feet of the bottom of the river, in order to contain placer gold? I live in Michigan where there is glacial runoff gold possibly anywhere, but I am trying to understand the mechanics of river gold Better before my next trip to Pa. also interested in checking more Michigan creeks and rivers, but seldom find a spec. Michigan is a good 1200 feet of soil and mariole above bedrock is my understanding. I hear there’s shale exposes somewhere nearby, I’m trying to learn how to read geological/topographic maps

...so how do you "dig out" behind a rock in the middle (or even the side) of a big rock to get the gold out? A shovel-full will be scoured away by the water flow. Dredge? But some areas do not allow dredging. Hand dredge (sucker thing)? How do you get the sand, etc. out from below the larger gravel without getting the gold washed away downstream in the process?
@Danhurd
@Danhurd 8 жыл бұрын
Hopefully the rock is out of the water at low water times. Or at least in calm water. We are not permitted to use dredges here in BC.
@jeffreyallen3796
@jeffreyallen3796 8 жыл бұрын
Dan Hurd why can't you use a dredge? environmentalist suck when they go to lie about the damage a dredge does. we have pulled a lot of mercury out of the creek using a dredge. I have not seen any fish in our Creek since we got stopped dredging.

You did not mention anything about the gold getting under the rocks... does it not do that?
@davidlee6042
@davidlee6042 8 жыл бұрын
+David Dančuk It does. Often, boulders keep areas from being dredged. If you winch out a large boulder, there is often a great concentration of gold beneath.

Can you make a video about how to recognize mountains bearing gold or silver. I live in Las Vegas and don't have much financial resources to make trips in river areas. But I see lots of mountains that seems like they were mining there. Is there any rules or secrets about how to recognize gold mountains where to look for.

+Vahagn melikyan If I'm prospecting I look for granite or quartz. Both of them together are even better. If you aren't in a "river area" you probably need a metal detector. If you find any old granite or quartz, focus on that area and downhill of it. good luck
@vahagnmelikyan2906

Is granite rock the bottom layer of the sedimentary layered mountain? Does granite contain gold, or any fossils? The reason I ask if granite carry any fossils,because I want to know if it was created by flood or it is a prefloood rock...
@davidlee6042
@davidlee6042 8 жыл бұрын
I have never seen fossils in granite. And its not sedimentary. I haven't been in school in a while but I believe its igneous rock. Its from lava (magma) and comes from deep underground. The place I am currently prospecting has a ton of granite with quartz stringers through it. Usually the gold is where the quartz and granite meet. Volcanic or tectonic forces bring these to the surface. Other places I've been in the past have rocks other than granite that have a lot of iron with some quartz. It's red and ugly. The quartz carries gold in these rocks too.

David Lee I went to a dry river (sorry don't know the right terminologies) was connected to a flash flood water drainage channel. At the sides of the dry river there were all kinds of rocks glued together with clay I believe,it was hard like stone. So I hit it with hammer and all these pieces fall off,there were some gray quartz,few white quartz, gravels,different types of rocks don't know the names. Seems like they were washed down the mountains by a massive flood water and after drying turned to a stone. Could they contain gold? And the ugly stones you talked about do they contain pieces of broken quartz like they were mixed with water and glued together or they are crossing through the rocks,like with granite?
@davidlee6042
@davidlee6042 8 жыл бұрын
The quartz stringers I'm referring to solidified with the granite way before you or I were born...when the mountains were formed. The dry river beds (arroyos in spanish) can have many different layers of concretion. If the water traveled through gold bearing ground it is possible it could have traces of gold in it. The best layers to sample would be a layer of river gravel (the rocks will be rounded...not sharp) a layer just above or in contact with clay, and most ideally, the layer right above bed rock. You have an unusual name. May I ask what your ethnicity is? I seldom prospect in the states anymore. I am making much more in other countries, and have been to many countries in my search for gold.

Ahh after seeing the actual class you're dealing with (actual kids) I can relate now to why you may have been getting short. Im no kid (over 40) so I understand now. I never thought kids would actually do this type of stuff. Its a bunch of hard work and they likely never worked a hard day in their life yet. I come from the oilfield so I know all about hard work. I wouldn't be able to do something like that as I am a copper top like yourself and well I need not say anymore. (Scotts temper) I would likely just ignore em and if they want to spend money just to be daft, I'd let em lol.
