T.C., despite evidence (most of which you omitted and with some fabrication), your conclusion is mistaken. In the end, the results of the Galileo trial are surely human: experts from one field do not like to be lectured by those of another. Alfred Wegener is an excellent example. Galileo got into trouble by trying to justify his hypothesis by challenging existing theology. Galileo was encouraged to write the Dialogue by his good friend Pope Urban VIII, but the pope gave him advice to treat the different views on the nature of the universe equally and to remain aloof from ANY theological arguments. This he didn't do. In any case, most astronomers of the time did not agree with the Copernican Hypothesis. Most regarded the Tychonic system as a better solution. He ignored Kepler's hypothesis of elliptical orbits. Lastly, Galileo had many friends and supporters in the clergy--some of them Jesuits. He hardly stood alone, but he did stand against a scientific community and powerful clergy members who thought his views were mistaken, and ultimately heretical.

Very good video; but I am left with an unanswered question: what is the amazing chamber music with which the video starts?

Hello, I am doctoral student in Texas and am writing a paper on Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo and I would really love to find out which program you used to create that amazing time-line. Is that a separate program from what you're editing on? Great video by the way, I am going to cite it in my paper! Cheers!

Considering the times, Galileo was lucky he wasn't burned at the stake. Turned out the Church was being MORE scientific than Galileo was.

Wasn't this more about power than anything else? How about going back to the origin of the "Church"? The unholy alliance between church and state began with the First Council of Nicaea. 1) Wait until all the Jews (of Christianity) were dead. So, eliminate Kosher diet, change the Sabbath to Sunday, etc. But DON"T eliminate tithing! We want money! In fact, use collection plates during the worship service even though Jesus ran the money changers out of the temple. In other words, turn the Church into a Gentile operation complete with idolatry, pagan rituals, etc. 2) The Emperor isn't stupid! He saw that Christians were willing to go against lions, tigers and saltwater crocodiles barehanded, with no fear of death. They lived clean, not undermining society with adultery, avarice, etc. In other words, Christians were great prospective soldiers! 3) Form a partnership between the Emperor and the Bishop of Rome, henceforth to be known as the Pope. That way God Himself has selected and blessed the Emperor. Go against the Emperor, you are against God.

Sounds like a bias hatred for the Catholic church. At least this one admits the fabrication of the accepted storyline. Here's the real story.... Galileo was an arrogant dude who could not offer proof. The Catholic church in its wisdom chose not to overstep its authority and make prideful declarations. Galileo just happened to be correct and the mechanist philosophers jumped all over it as a justification. Well, I say the moon is made out of cheese, and if at some point in the future, an astronaut takes his cheddar with him and drops it on the moon then I will proclaim that I was always correct!
