I absolutely LOVE the open ending of Volleyball episode.

One of the best details about the Volleyball episode is you don't actually see if the eye gets healed or not. Because trauma is messy and doesn't always have simple fixes.

there are many out there who hate pink and says she's a bad guy, but as the creator says, she's supposed to be a complex character where you'r not sure what to think. It's like meeting someone in their 30's, 40's and who they are, but you start to learn what they did in their teen years, if they did bad things then, does that mean they're always bad, that they can't change etc- we're just learning about rose/pink in reverse

The truth is that Rose was a good person, however, before she was the Rose who gave way to Steven, she wasn't a good person. Bad people can change, but a persons good deeds cannot erase the harm they have done, just as the bad deeds they have done don't erase the good. It's perfectly valid to be angry at Rose for not having tied up all the loose ends and being forced to face consequences, but it seems odd that people are so fixated on anger at Rose when the cast is full of people with karma they didn't fully face the music on, and were simply 'saved' out of it by Stevens graces, or Steven acted as a catalyst for them to realise the error of their ways from which they then grew, and started to make amends. If Rose still existed alongside Steven, I would like to think that she too would reflect on the depth of the things she left behind, and would start to make amends. But unfortunately, Rose gave up her life to give way to Steven, who was the driving force behind all the things being resolved. Perhaps we could say that was Rose copping out and not having to face the music, just doing another whimsical thing for her own ends, but we also have to factor in the alien biology. In essence, part of Rose is very much alive in Steven, even if she doesn't have to bear the brunt of the traumas. Rose's selfishness also encompassed what she was willing to sacrifice to give others freedom. She was definitely flawed, but she had good intentions alongside her childish simplicity. She was the first diamond to want for something more than herself, and while still a kind of selfish impulse, she was willing to give up her life on homeworld, her identity, and then in the end her actual life itself. We are used to seeing her as a grown woman, but we forget that in terms of gemtype and age, she was actually more akin to a youth coming up towards her teenage years. She was simultaneously trying to be more mature than she was, and like the other diamonds/gems was never made to mature properly due to the homogenous and rigid unthinking homelife/society. Its okay to be angry at Rose, but people forget the full context. Its easier to think of those who hurt us as irredeemable monsters, and that can help us in the short term (stop giving them the benefit of the doubt, stop putting your own feelings second, etc), but it can also work the opposite too. For all the upbeat stuff in the Steven Universe series, it does occasionally like to underline that the healthy way forwards doesn't mean forgetting or forgiving the past, or completely conquering/removing our trauma, sometimes it means moving forwards and learning how to get a handle on it, accepting what has happened and being at peace with the bouts of anger or sadness, and not letting it rule us.

Steven Universe Future is about Steven dealing with the trauma he experienced in the original series. It's great to see a show tackle dealing with trauma and abuse the characters went through as children.

These two episodes are in my top 3 for SUF - I'm so glad you're enjoying them and discussing the deeper thoughts about Rose/Pink and how Steven is intregrating that into his vision of himself. If you've ever seen the anime 'Revolutionary Girl Utena', there are a number of visual references in the Volleyball episode that are a clear homage.

This, also Gundam Witch From Mercury being another recent animation that heavily references Utena just as much as Steven Universe does. Really hope the gals react to that show, despite being a gundam show, it's very noob friendly as it was my 1st gundam

Future is kind of short in my eyes i mean we didn't even get to see my two favorite characters together which i found odd but the show was trying to give them their own spotlight for one episode but I would have preferred they just be in each others' episode so we can see how their relationship is doing and get some sweet final moments
