Galvanic Corrosion

What is galvanic corrosion? And how can it be prevented? Galvanic corrosion, sometimes mistakenly called electrolysis, is the result of the reaction between at least two dissimilar metals in electrical contact with one another, in the presence of an electrolyte. Metals like, for example, aluminum and steel. And as we all know, corrosion is not good and can be devastating to a vehicle structure. Knowing the chemistry and science behind it and how it happens can save collision repairers a lot of grief.

makes you wonder how many vehicles out there that have really bad corrosion is down to poor practice in garages etc.

I’ve noticed no one(or very few) know what ‘seizing’ actually is.. anyway, since I’ve attempted the rest, does heat remove a galvanic corrosion bolt stuck in a sleeve conundrum?🤔(sterl bolt, aluminum steering knuckle - don’t know if there’s bushings or a (steel or aluminum) sleeve✋

would you consider doing a video testing titanium on some of the new "super steels" found in knves like vanax, H1, LC200N, and magnacut? lots of knives now have titanium scales and screws, but they make contact with the blade made of one of these super steels that are considered "rust proof". I have not found the answer to whether or not galvanic corrosion will ensue if left long enough, or not washed, after exposure to salt water.

hmmm u can make sacrificial zinc anodes for a penny each, literally.... all u do is take the lower mass post 1982 pennies and put them in a solo/disposable cup, and then mix in vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. let it sit for a few hours and maybe stir with a straw or something. after an hour or two (depending on how much and how fresh peroxide u use) all of the pennies will turn grey in a bajhablast lookin solution coz the thin copper shell is dissolved away. this aint tacobell though dont drink that. U can take the pennies out and run under water to wash off the peroxide and vinegar but ull notice as soon as they get in the air they will start rusting quicker. U can put these on ur cars frame or around the engine compartment where they might stay put and it should slow down any frame damage due to rusting from road salts up north. this and a can of silicon based wd40 every year (after a car wash) will make ur frame last forever. i bet it would even help to preserve grounding wires and keep electrical gremlins out of ur cars system. just an idea... cars are made out of the cheapest low quality steel available now days and the paint really has to do a lot of heavy lifting... cars like the delorian were much more expensive coz of the stainless steel for example
