Medievil seems to always get remade...but nobody seems to remember the sequel for some reason. Let's take a look and see if this game deserves to return to the land of the living.

@@GameApologist Except it wasn't, collecting the all the chalices was intended to give you the twist b-movie ending, which was part of a scrapped plotline. Jason Wilson gave an interview on the game's fan forum, back in 2013, explaining this.

I mean... the "bad" ending is a direct link to the first game so it's a better ending for fans of MediEvil (who would be more likely to get all the chalices) - it also could have been a setup for a third game. I get that choosing to die together is very sweet and traditional kind of ending though, each to their own. Good video - the reaction to the Professor's horniness made me laugh

You know, I think there might actually be a rule that some level of nudity is ok as long as it's on a real person. A good example might be the giant statue in the Spirit Temple in Ocarina of Time... which had hookshottable boobs. Thanks Nintendo.

This was such a joy to watch. I had to contain my excitement until I finished my work. Cried laughing at the rant parts because they ALL were so true. I remember all the frustration this game had and I would add to it with a lack of a memory card... Kids these days have it easy. Outstanding work as always Nick! Thank you for taking the time to shed some light on some forgotten games. Truly appreciate it.

😂 I don’t know why it took me so long to get a memory card. I remember playing Resident Evil (my favorite game of all time) for so long without a memory card. Every weekend I’d have a friend come over and we would stay up all night trying to make it through the mansion. When we would die. It was back to the beginning. To this day, I know the layout of the mansion like the back of my hand.

I had no memory card too 😂 I played the museum like a thousand times, that soundtrack is forever burned in my brain 😂 But I get trough the game eventually. This is still my favourite Play Station game.

Had no memory card and playing MGS1 doing both endings for Ammo bandana and Stealth camo, mum complained alot cause I'd leave the console on all night so I didn't lose my progress 🤣

Here was going to be medievil 3 A proposed third game for the Playstation 2, Medievil 3: Fate's Arrow, would have loosely expanded upon the ending of Medievil 2 - Princess Kiyante would have been revealed to be Evil All Along, using Dan to bring her to the past of Gallowmere so she could forge an alliance with Lord Zarok. Together, they would have schemed to alter the events of the fateful Battle of Gallowmere, ensuring that Gallowmere's armies are defeated and that the human Daniel never dies to become the skeleton hero who saves the day later on. The undead Sir Dan from the future would have had to work to preserve the timeline and make sure his past self participates in the fatal first charge that ended his mortal life.

All of the complaints would easily become secondary if only the health fountains respawned when you replay a level. That's what I did in the first one in a pinch. Sadly, here you're screwed. I doubt most people finished the game back then because of that.

Idk why you say there was no love for MediEvil 2. Most time i`ve heard people talking about it, they loved both games. And furthermore, its a common oponion that MediEvil 2 is better than 1st game Aslo most of your complaints sounds like a skill issue

Come on homy. Medievil 2 it wasn't that bad. You just must have a little pasience and use the corect weapond for each enemy. In fact is easy if you kill the zombies and that kind of sh@it with the meele weaponds, and for range enemies like the abites momies, fat beared lady and stuff with range weapons.

I did as well. I loved all the new characters and features they included in the game. I still have fond memories of the boxing match and prowling through the streets of London in search of Jack The Ripper.

I get some of your complaints however it's obvious you didn't use the strafe button. It makes combat a lot more manageable/engaging and also, if you strafe backward at a spot with a ladder Dan will always get down onto the ladder safely without throwing himself over the edge. As for your complaints about the ending I just don't agree. The "good" ending is a tropey stereotypical happy ending whereas the "bad" ending leaves you with an intriguing cliff hanger that begs so many questions. Seems like a good reward to me. What can I say

Do you think they'll do a remastering of MediEvil 2, like they did with the first one? Also, would love to see you review Blasto, Parasite Eve, and Fear Effect for the ps1. And Kiya is, what The Blockbuster Buster would refer to as a F.R.I.

All games I have always wanted to play through! I don't think a remake will be happening. We were lucky to get the first game at all. I would love one, and certainly advocate for it, but if I was a betting man? Game is staying as dead as sir Dan.

@@GameApologist Yeah. You have a point. And Kiya is as big of a F.R.I as Tawna from the Original Crash Bandicoot. Also, they got a different voice actor for Dan for the PS4 remastering.

When that butler chased me through the halls when I was danhand it terrified me as a kid. I could still beat this game without getting hit I played Medievil 1 and 2 countless times as a kid. My Ps1 got multiple makeovers from other Ps1's because it got broke often times. Good times man I loved these games.

Fun notes When the professor, uhm, "zooms in" a vibration enabled controller will "buzz" very very briefly And as for the platforming, the first game did not have fall damage. They *added* it for this one. Also added was the non-respawning fountains, cause they replenished in the first one.

You are not alone my friend, I have a love-hate relationship with this game. I remember having fun with the observatory, museum and whitehall levels but remember getting REALLY frustrated with the Carnival level, the Final level and that really bad Boxing Match you have to play. I never enjoyed them, especially the Boxing Match, which I still have very strong memories about and while I also hate the camera and the really bad life system that should be a little more forgiving, I still enjoyed this game a lot because the music and atmosphere were charming, foreboding and sometimes (Like Whitehall) very tense. And I also enjoyed smashing things with a giant hammer, that always made me smile :) I would like a remake too, but we all know it's either the original in the series/franchise or a super popular game that gets remakes, nothing short, sadly.

This was the only game I'd ever used a cheat to win at. But not till the last minute! I'd figured out a pattern for the Demon with the Gatling gun. I went to push the button for the final blowz and ran out of ammo. There was no way. I was starting over. So i input the all weapons code and fired that last shot and beat the game. I have no guilt using cheats for replays, but i never got that "clean" run. Did 99.9% of the game legitimately.

I just finished the game first using the health cheat only, and then I played the game again with no cheats. The experience the second time was very fun and less stressful. Really good game overall!

I have a unique and, in my opinion, beneficial perspective on the sequel because I actually played it first. Growing up, it was the only one I owned, and I never actually got around to playing the original until the PS4 remake came out. That means all the odd writing quirks and such were, for me, what I should expect from the series as a whole. And, my biggest complaint about the game, the health scarcity, was/is still as much of a problem in the remake of the original.

Great video, man! Medievil is my favorite PS1 video game :) And honestly since Medievil 2 is so similar to the first one, I hold it in the same ranks. Although I did agree with some of the points you made. The game is definitely brutally difficult at times for its dated camera/platforming mechanics. The first game was one of the first 3D games and they had to figure out how to even do the thing in the first place, since they didn't have any other games to really base it off of at the time. They should have improved it alot with the second one since there *were* other games to go off of when it was being developed but I guess they just tried to keep it the same as the old game.

Didn't know that there are 2 endings tho I did get all the challices if I remember right. Are there regional differences ? Also you could jump up to the demon at the end and shoot it with your crossbow to finish the fight faster. If you manage to hit the demon he will instantly punch the flying ship

Honestly I don't mind MediEvil or MediEvil 2 and I really hope they remake the second game for PS4 or more likely PS5 with the style of the first games remake, which in my option fixed a lot of the really stiff combat. And hey mabye if they remake the second game they can then possibly make a 3rd game.

The truth is medievil 2 was an all around bad game. It almost feels like a fan mod. The voice, the model for Dan, the overall lack of medieval atmosfere. I know why it didn't get a remake, sony wants to sweep this under the rug

The ending with the gatling gun was the canon ending, you see the Mummy is a witch and in the end she betrays Dan and she is the main villain of the 3rd game. Yeah, they was a third game that was made.
