@Wermy, thank you for taking the time to share this project and the custom pieces for it. I just started assembling parts to build mine and wish I had seen some of this prior to buying a few of the pieces. I might just save them for later and buy the all in one board.

I can't wait to see the aftermarket build, I think with that last board and the screen protector then you have everything to make a professional looking handheld. Wish someone would make a Gameboy case that had the 4 buttons on the front, that'd be the bees knees.
@gabiballetje8 жыл бұрын
And use a 640x480 instead of 320x240 as well if i'd build one, which i want to. But yes, it's just time to make everything for this almost liek a kit. With a new case, with all the places for buttons already in, with notches on the case and othe boards so they match up, so it's basically just an easy build. Maybe have a single website to buy all of your parts, with some options, like screens, case, buttons, etc.

Wermy, I've been looking for a while now and haven't seen Helders order change from sold out for this board. Would like to purchase a couple of these boards, but with no result. Thanks man, keep up the awesome vids
@xtsoler8 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thank you very much and please continue evolving this project. Building it with no original parts but preserving the overall look and feel is IMHO the correct direction. An aftermarket shell is cool too. Maybe a 3d printed option is also possible? And a pi3 version could be a future project right? Finally, I believe a software hub could also come forth for such a device for new homebrew games optimized for this hardware so that it won't stay limited to emulation.
@KlingonCaptain8 жыл бұрын
Nice, oh so nice. I bet these part can be used for other projects as well, like a SNES portable.

This is very exciting! I watched all 6 parts of the original guide, but I am too amateur, so I am very excited to hear you're doing another guide with custom parts. I will definitely try to do it myself! Which button circuit board will you be using in the new guide? Will you be using the all in one from Helder?

Werny I can't thank you enough for making such a great effort. I'm looking forward to your next series of videos on how to build Gameboy Zero using the custom parts. Where is the link to that black helder's board ? the one you linked is completly different, think its an old broken version as it said there is issues with the audio on that one. One you listed has a red pcb completely different from the one you showed & a blue one that is completely different again.. Just i like that black one you showed with all the stuff added like audio, amp, usb, arduino all added onto the pcb.

So that last board is probably a good one to use for someone who is less familiar with doing all of this kind of stuff? I really want to build one of these - I think it would be really neat to show to people and would be a sweet taste of nostalgia for me to play games on while still getting variety but I am relatively new to this whole world.

@gabiballetje8 жыл бұрын
I've also seen a speaker expansion to go stereo, they are the things you stick in the bottom stereo out, usually for headphones. I take it those would still just work, but, would it be possible to make two of those speakers in the housing, since the new all-in-one 1.4 PCB leaves you more space, maybe connect two at the same time to one out, so mono sound over two speakers ? Or would that not fit ? Because stereo standard and still having the option for headphones would of course be better. Or would it even be possible for those speakers to actually be stereo ? That would be even better. All these new things and maybe possibilities woudl really lift it to the next level.

Any chance of ever having an overview of some different part options and their pros and cons ? Some case options. Screen options, i'd like a 3,5" 640x480 option, is there one ? Buttons, what is better ? I found silicone and plastic options. I'd order 2 sets of each (since you'll need 2 sets of AB buttons, or maybe 3, for L and R buttons, thoughts ?) I also want a color scheme, but for the dmg there aren't many options, are the buttons for the gbc or pocket the same size and usable ? That would increase choice dramatically. Really looking forward to your fully custom build, not using any original GB parts, i want to go that same route.

I really want to see the new build, preferrably without having any original gameboy parts, and all the updated circuitboards and all that. How cool would it be to buy these in parts all ready to go with easier and less connections and holes already in the right places and all that. Because i really want this, but i am not good at this sort of stuff at all. Hell, i'd just want to buy one ready made to be honest. Then i pop out the micro-SD card (please send along a micro-SD card reader along with it, though i can buy one myself), and put on the games i want myself.

So why doesn't someone take a Raspberry Pi Zero, reverse engineer it, and replicate the back board of the gameboy with the pi built in? So this way you have the cart connector and everything on one board. Also have the headers on it for the headphone jack and all that other jazz that you have to glue into the case? So this way it is pretty much drag and drop with out the need for tons of modifications to the original gameboy case?
