For a small to medium sized living room with 8 foot ceilings, this speaker system actually sounds really good for the budget minded individual. I am using an Onkyo TX-NR7100 and have calibrated the speakers in their positions using DIRAC. It is pleasantly surprising. Got my receiver new from Amazon for $893 and the speakers for $350. After taxes and shipping ( shipping was free on Amazon Prime), I only spent $1,350.00 for all of it. Watching Dolby Atmos and DTS-X content with the correct speaker configuration in the Onkyo along with DIRAC calibration has provided a noticeable upgrade to my previous 7.1 Surround Sound System. Sound is much more ambient with a greater depth in the sound stage from the music sound track to the movie sound affects. Frequency response is more then satisfactory for the price I paid.

I have a nice Atlantic Technology THX Certified 5.1 system, but the Klipsch cinema 5.1.4 package intrigued me as does Atmos so I too went for the Newegg deal. My sub died on my 5.1 system, so for the price of a sub I got a 5.1.4 Klipsch speaker package. Was thinking about getting the Denon 760 at Costco (on sale for $379!) but am leaning towards the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX305 9.2 channel AVR. Seems like Pioneer has HDMI 2.1 figured out (unlike Denon and Yamaha which are buggy at best from everything I've read) plus it's 9 channels for the full Atmos experience. Could also add a second sub I for 5.2.4 suppose :) Any benefit to different sized subs?
@wells26712 жыл бұрын
good chance that the atmos experience wasn't up to par because you skipped the accuEQ setup. Based on the screenshot you shared, the Heights were only set 1ft further than the mains, so the atmost speaker to ceiling distance was not added which would create a different delay for them if they were. As Andrew Jones suggested with his atmos enabled speakers, once you run the auto EQ and finalize the distances/delays, you should add 1 to 3dB to the atmos speakers since they will lose some energy from having to bounce the sound off the ceiling. I run a 7.4.4 set up with the Andrew Jones Pioneer Elite speakers that have the atmos enable speakers built-in (like these Klipsch in your review), and the atmos effect is very convincing. My buddy just picked up this Klipsch system and will be using the Onkyo TX-NR7100. His room is not optimal since one wall opens up to another room, but it should be descent once he calibrates it.

I wanted the Klipsch 5.1, and had been shopping for a good deal on them lately. BUT when I found that I could pick up the Klipsch 5.1.4 for $299, I jumped on it and bought it immediately; just recently. I also bought the Onkyo AVR6100 to go along with it for $279. However, I have yet to set up the system; my movie room needs a bit of remodeling first. Then I need a new widescreen monitor for the completion. As this will replace my old Panasonic SX-316 avr, I am certain that my new system will be far better than I had previously. Since my room is small; roughly 12'W x 13'L, and it is a shared common wall with a neighbor, I'll have to dial the sound levels down, especially the bass. I believe for the money, I got a pretty good deal, and I am absolutely sure it will offer me far more value for my budget to meet my expectations fully. I know there are a lot of avr and speaker options available; many far more expensive and far more than what I need. But I think I got the best value for what I need in a home entertainment system.

Hello @Ealan, Hope you are doing well! I am happy to let you know that I recently upgraded my AVR to Denon AVR X4700H so that I can get the full benefit of the Dolby Atmos sound system with my new Klipsch Reference Cinema 5.1.4 speakers. I have a few questions though, can I use my old Monoprice satellite speakers as the height speakers and Klipsch speakers as floor speakers? The reason I am asking is that I feel the upward-firing speakers of the Klipsch system are not powerful enough, so I am wondering if using Monoprice satellite speakers as height speakers would give a better Dolby Atmos effect compared to Klipsch upward-firing speakers? Also, can I use Klipsch and Monoprice subwoofers together? Trying to see if I can have a 5.2.4 speaker setup. Is it safe to mix and match Klipsch speakers/subwoofer with Monoprice speakers/subwoofer on a single Denon AVR? Please advise. Highly appreciate your guidance!
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
You absolutely can do that! Most of the height effects are atmospheric and fairly subtle anyway, so mounting your Monoprice satellites up high will work much better than the upward-firing Klipsch speakers. And you can most certainly use the Klipsch and Monoprice subs together. Just make sure and level match them so one doesn’t overpower the other. But 2 subwoofers is always better than 1. 😁🤘

I initially just used basic measurements and settings while setting up the system and it sounded pretty darn good. I then used Pioneers own mcacc to setup the system and didn't really notice much of a difference. I will note though, as you have stated, I was getting a lot of chuffing from the subwoofer. I went into the sub settings and set it to zero and controlled the volume directly from the sub and it sounded much better, no chuffing! I then decided to give Dirac a try and this is where I am floored. Holy crap batman, It really is a night and day difference from everything I tried with this system to this point. The soundstage is just amazing, really pulls you into whatever your watching, sounds very "spacious". My point is that, over the years owning many different AVR's, is that you can have nice equipment but if isn't setup correctly it will still sound like poo. Get in there and tweek tweek tweek, utilize everything the AVR is capable of doing, don't just rely on the AVR's tuning program. Get out a tape measure and mess with all the settings till you get it right. You will be more satisfied with the end results for sure. Tune it to sound like you want it to. This system cost me $850 at Costco and is listed on Klipsch's website for like $1850 thereabouts. You get this sucker setup right in the right sized room, it will deliver big time and at a reasonable price.

To utilize all 4 upward firing speakers, you would need a 9 channel AVR. Costco only sells 7 channel AVRs (at least for now). A 9 channel AVR I’d recommend is the Onkyo 7100, which is currently on sale on Crutchfield.com for $899. Still pretty expensive, I know, but one of the best (and cheapest) 9 channel AVRs right now, especially when it’s on sale. 🤘

Hadn’t thought about it, but I’d be curious! Although from what I remember when I did review the SVS Prime 5.1 system (but sadly had to send it back), the quality of SVS’s speakers would be slightly better, more neutral. It’s worth it even just for the baseline 5 speakers and the sub. The upward firing Atmos speakers are just icing on the cake. That Onkyo can only process 7 channels at once. So even if you use Zone 2, it limits the rest of the receiver to play only up to 5 channels. But you could still get away with 7 channels powering this Klipsch Cinema system. Sure, you're not getting the full effect, since you can only power 2 of the 4 upward firing speakers, but the main satellite speakers still sound really good even by themselves!

@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
In order to get any audio information out of the rear height satellite speakers, you need a 9 channel AVR. 5 ear level speakers + 4 height speakers = 9. You SHOULD be getting audio out of the ear-level rear satellites, so I’m not sure what’s going on there. But if you have assigned the front height speakers in your 5.1.2 setup, you shouldn’t be hearing anything out of the rear heights anyway. 🤷♂️

I sure hope this doesn’t sound silly, but I’m not understanding the 0.0.0/0.0 scale everyone is referring too, what do those numbers mean, and what receivers are compatible with them?? I’m wanting to buy the 5.1.4 Klipsch your reviewing in this video, but I have no idea what receiver to get without spending $1000 on a new modern one. Which receivers will work with this system, and I do mean work with them comfortably. I want a budget receiver but I also want something that borderline kinda pushes the limits of this package’s capacity of immersiveness. Please help!!
@ealanosborne Жыл бұрын
There are no silly questions here! 😁 The first number refers to the number of ear-level speakers. The second number is how many subwoofers the system has. And the third number refers to the amount of height speakers. So this system has 5 ear level speakers, 1 subwoofer, and 4 upward firing height speakers (the kind that bounce audio off your ceiling). But that doesn’t mean you HAVE to utilize all the speakers. You could still save money by getting a 5.2 channel receiver and just connect the 5 main satellite speakers and subwoofer. To utilize ALL the speakers in this system, you’d need a 9 channel AVR. But again - to stay on a budget - you could get by with a 7 channel AVR and just use 2 out of the 4 upward firing height speakers. Denon X2700H or Sony AZ1000ES would push it to the limit. But if you don’t wanna spend that much, the Onkyo 6100, Denon S760H or Sony DN1080 are less expensive options that are still solid. 🤘

ATMOS needs to come with a disclaimer.. especially for people with good 5.1 and 7.1 surround speaker setups. Every additional set of speakers has a greater diminished return for the investment. Adding 2 or 4 height speakers isn't going to "blow your mind." ATMOS receivers will send the same height channel sounds to your existing surround speakers. Which were ususally placed higher than ear level to begin with. You are not "missing out" .. the sound will play .. and it will be natural. You are not going to think.. "Who... that should have come more from above.." You simply won't notice the difference .. especially with your focus toward the action on the screen. ATMOS also irritates me. Every diagram of ATMOS speaker placement has you sitting on a loveseat or sofa with a very low back, in a very upright position. It's more like a media room than a home theater. For home theaters, seating is as important as the screen and the sound. Power reclining seats with adjustable headrests and cup holders are great. Even if you aren't reclined, they are still more comfortable than a low back sofa. If I ever build another home theater (which I probably will) I'll go ATMOS. But the extra cost and hassle to upgrade my existing 7.1 theater probably isn't worth it.

But if you can find a used SR6015 or even Denon X4700h, or if you can hold off until the Onkyo RZ50 is available, you'll have enough for all that AND an Emotiva BasX A7 to power all 7 of your speakers externally. @@ealanosborne two questions. If I go for the Denon 3700, that still gives me two channels to play with (along with some more money left over from my budget). Should I get the atmos upward firing speakers for the front towers? Secondly, do the bookshelf speakers go to the side or the back? I was just not sure where to place the surround speakers, since they are kind of facing in two different directions. And, do they face up and down, where the top speaker would bounce off the ceiling, or do i place the surround with the speakers facing left and right? Sorry for the tech questions, just trying to wrap my mind around all of this. Thanks in advance.
@ealanosborne3 жыл бұрын
@@74craines 1) What is your ceiling height? 2) It’s tough to find an available X3700H, so that’s why I suggested SR6015. 3) Since you’re wanting to start the foundation of your Big Boy system, I would honestly not get any upward firing speakers. Big Boy systems with in-ceiling or ceiling mounted speakers are a must if you want true Atmos effects you can hear and feel. So I would personally spend money on a killer 7.1 than a decent 5.1.2. 4) Bookshelves would flank your listening position, and the surrounds would be placed behind you pointing at the listening position, not up towards the ceiling. Although that is much easier to pull off in a dedicated home theater that HAS a back wall…5) Bottom line is, spending money now on upward firing Atmos speakers may not be the best way to go about it. Unless you want to get something like the Elevation speakers from SVS and mount them. But getting into the Big Leagues means discrete speakers firing audio directly at your ears, not reflecting off the ceiling. 🤘

No. The NR6050 is only a 7 channel AVR, so it maxes out at 5.1.2. The NR7100 is the cheapest new 9 channel AVR on the market which will support a 5.1.4 setup. But I mentioned in the video that it’s still a good bargain to get the NR6050 since the 5 main speakers and subwoofer of the 5.1.4 Cinema System are a really good deal on their own. And also, try and experiment with which Atmos speakers you end up using. 2 channel Atmos doesn’t have to be up front. It can be in the rear if you want. Whichever gets the better effect in your home theater space. 👍 But honestly, since you already have speakers, I’d suggest using 2 of your existing speakers and mounting them on the wall above the TV, on the ceiling, or even behind up high, pointing them down at your listening position. The ear-level Klipsch cinema speakers are fantastic! So using 2 existing speakers for Atmos would actually be the optimal 5.1.2 setup for now.

I will try to use this as 5.1.4 with HTS 10 as subwoofer. Do you think this is a good idea. I am kind of experimenting as it is real hard to get to audition speakers where I live.

Why are you not the first result when looking up surround sound info? I used to sell this stuff at best buy like 15 years ago, and just now am I starting to look at a system for my new house. You've answered a lot of questions, but only when I finally put in very specific terms searching for WiSA answers. Thanks for the info, you definitely helped me decide on my new system, and saved me from buying a yamaha receiver that wouldn't have fulfilled the requirements of these klipsch speakers!

Hi there! I just bought a Denon AVR-S760H receiver and the Klipsch HT50 Home Theater Surround Sound 5.0 System, but ended up returning that open box speaker set because it was missing the rubber feet for the stands. That said, would this setup be better than the HT50 setup? I can't believe this is selling on Amazon right now for $429.99! I currently have a set of 4 Bose Model 141 speakers, 2 Onkyo Model SKF-100's, a Bose video speaker as my center channel (only a single speaker though, not a real center speaker), and an 8" Onkyo sub. I have vaulted ceilings where my tv is, so I thought about the 5.1 theater set, but this Atmos set has a bigger sub and the other speakers are larger too. My receiver is only a 7.2, but would this system be good for me regardless? Thanks in advance!

Yes! Since the speakers are larger than any online photo can capture, they would work well with your situation…at least if running a 5.1 (or 7.1, if you decide to use a pair of your current speakers). Since you have vaulted ceilings, the up-firing Atmos speakers won’t do anything at all, so I’d keep it at 5.1 or 7.1. But I agree! It’s one of the best complete systems you can get for the price! 🤘

@@ealanosborne Awesome, thanks for the response! So to confirm what I think you’re telling me… it’s still better to get this set and not use the upward firing speakers (and use two of my other speakers as my atmos), correct? Rather than getting the other set with basically smaller everything.

@@DerekSanford You got it! It’s always best to have separate speakers mounted up high, firing audio directly at you, as opposed to bouncing audio off any surface. 👍

on the fence to either get this or the SVS prime 5.1...any input would help
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
If SVS Prime 5.1 is in your budget, get that, even though it doesn’t have upward firing speakers for Atmos. The subwoofer makes up for it. It is far superior to the so-so sub that comes with the Klipsch.

I have the 5.1.4 klipsch cinema reference package do you recommend getting the 250$ klipsch subwoofer to run 5.2.4 system or is the difference sizes in subwoofer undesirable?

May I ask what you think about the atmos feature ?
@CalCobra11 ай бұрын
Finally, we have 5.1.4 thanks to a Black Friday special on the Onkyo TX-NR7100! Got everything setup, ran Dirac LIve and wow this is impressive for the money! The crossovers Dirac Live set were interesting (well below the Klipsch datasheet specs), but it sounds great. Atmos up-firing is okay'ish, but even if you just used the Klipsch Cinema Reference HTIB for a 5.1 setup, it would be great for the price. You definitely get more audio immersion with the Atmos up-firing speakers, but I wouldn't say it's earth shattering. Super Tramp Breakfast in America in FLAC sounds great on these speakers, amazing even for the price. I'm LOVING the Onkyo NR7100, incredible piece of home theater/audio tech.

Dude, that’s incredible! And yes…the 7100 is SUCH a fantastic AVR with all its features, especially on sale! Hooray! 🎉

Do you have any advice for budget dolby atmos reciever for that speakers? Thank you.
@ealanosborne2 жыл бұрын
Not really, unfortunately. Especially right now with so many receivers out of stock or being delayed with their initial release. I’d suggest the Onkyo TX-NR7100 when it finally comes out, or older used Onkyos on eBay, like the NR787 and NR797. They’re the only budget 9 channel receivers you’ll find. Maybe an older Pioneer receiver too.
