LOVE the spector! Total G.O.A.T!! Humble in his genius aswell. Deus Ex still resonates with me in its design and execution.

It's very rare when it comes to looking at creative directors for video games, Warren Spector is hands down one of my favorite gaming veterans ever. He and his former studio really brought new life to classic Disney characters in the modern era 😁😁😁

Warren Spector is the GOAT. So much of his design in past games have carried on to many of todays games. Legend!

Epic Mickey on Wii was a bit clunky and the level design was scattered, but this game had heart! I don’t believe enough Wii fans got their hands on the paint mechanic. One of my top 10 Wii motion control games. Just got Rebrushed and it’s GREAT!

Even designers who have the gracious good will to "write" C&C's in their games fail to realize they should be more than written dialogue lines eventually potentiated by a playing character's skills, dialogue lines that writers can only shove in their resume's. It can be called the Bioware curse! Designers and writers end up thinking that consequences are the only important aspect of the system. But choices are also important if not more, because they shouldn't happen in dialogue lines only, they should "hide" in the environment and be triggered by actions and interactions. Epic Mickey did it, Deus Ex did it. The beauty of deus ex ironically as an RPG, and mentioned in this interview, is that you could play ignoring the rpg elements, bc most of the situations can be solved without a single skill, but with cleverness, solving puzzles. I.E. a door can be opened with hacking, with a rocket, or with a passkey written behind a painting. Funfact, the real Fallout games had that too.

I reckon Team Beef would be able to make a really awesome VR port of Deus Ex today, if only it became open source some 24 years now after the game's release.
