between 2013 and 2018 I made a passion for trying to measure gaming maps using various methods. Here are the maps that I managed to measure with good accuracy. GTA V: 52.5 km2( plus or minus 4 km) GTA San Andreas: 35 km2 Skyrim: 35 km2 GTA: IV 18 km2 RDR 1: 25km2 RDR 2: 60 km2 ( but big parts of the map you can't access both at the edges and even in the middle of the map.) Real playable area of RDR 2 is more like 42 km2. Watch dogs 1: 25 km2 Gta vice city 9km2( but if you take a way the water between the islands and the huge beach, the map is around 5.5 km) Gta 3 6km2

The characters are walking and running at vastly different speeds and your routes from on side to the other aren't always equivalent either. You're also using the in game speed gauges for the vehicles speeds. There's actual comparisons out there with actual evidence, this could be one of them (even keeping the footage) with minor alterations. If you had just done a test for movement speed you could have even given a rough estimation for distance and area. Instead we're comparing TIMES and not DISTANCE.
@HowBigistheMap3 жыл бұрын
Maybe I should do something like this the next time: the walking speed that really looks slowly like in Skyrim: 2 mph. Normal walking speed as 3 mph and faster walking speed (still not jogging) as 4 mph. And then calculate. And you're right, with the driving games I used the speed meter in the screen of the game. Can you please give the links to these comparisons you were talking about, with actual evidence. Maybe I can learn something from it. Thanks for your opinion.
@HowBigistheMap3 жыл бұрын

@@HowBigistheMap I was talking about people on different game site forums who've gone and calculated map size for different games by digging into the data or finding other ways to calculate speed and distance (breaking the game worlds down into grids, chunks, squares etc and using in-game objects or character models to determine distances) I definitely wasn't referring to my video, that was lazy. Not sure why you're patronizing me, I wasn't trying to be offensive. I think you've gone through all of the hard work and then some that'd be needed to make calculations. You just need to find movement speed.
@HowBigistheMap3 жыл бұрын
@@7dayspking I never try to patronize anybody, not even my pupils at school. I really think your video is great and I dropped the link here so others can check out your video as well. @7dayspking3 жыл бұрын
@@HowBigistheMap I was never consistently making videos. I used very quick, lazy solutions to estimate all of those things (done in a few minutes.). Not to the lengths others have. For example, I took TW3's units as metres because they seemed close enough. Which would make the Velen + Novigrad map roughly 12 km2 (slightly smaller than Kingdom Come Deliverance's game world, 1/20th the size of AC Odyssey's.)
