God of War is my GOTY. The only games that I think could possibly top it for the remainder of the year are Red Dead 2 or Spider Man but honestly I think GOW will hold onto it it’s incredible

Depends on how good spider man's gameplay is for me. GOW's amazingly written and performed narrative, and how it serves the world design is fantastic, but I was a little down on the combat. While good, I didn't exactly like the feel of it. Dad feels though...

I feel like he is not giving GoW enough credit for it's exploration. Sure it is not completely open world but it felt like adventure and exploring to me. It's easily my game of the year. One of the best games this generation imo.

God of War does have exploration in it though, I really don't understand why Sam didn't like it. My running theory is that Sam doesn't like story-focused games because he doesn't believe video games are good for story-telling, but God of War really isn't about the story, I enjoyed it BECAUSE IT WAS FUN to PLAY the game, not to SEE the story. Really, how satisfying is the combat in that game? It's amazing! AND you have collectibles and side quests to explore, so what's not to like?

GoW's writing is a masterclass in writing in video games. Uncharted 2 made good use of in-game dialogue to characterize Drake and the rest of the cast, their sense of humor was unique and revealed a little bit about their personality. GoW took those techniques but applied it in a very dramatic genre with an intense relationship of father and son. The quality of the writing of what the dialogue conveys is done so well, and I can imagine it took so many revisions to uncover those more nuanced ideas of their personality and their relationship, as well as organize them in a way that's best for an audience to sequentially experience. I can understand where Sam is coming from, The Last of Us was so emotionally evocative for me that I had trouble playing it. Sometimes I want games that I can enjoy for its mechanics and control, (they're fun to play), and sometimes I want a game that's an intimate story to experience..

It was funny watching Sam restrain his irritation and use body language to signal that Jared was talking too long over the course of this show. I LOVE the Game Scoop community. Nothing but kind words for Jared below, however, if you dare to travel to the toxic environment of Kinda Funny, they do nothing but tear him down. This is a community at one point or another has HATED Colin, Greg (after they apparently through Colin under the bus), Tim (many times) Kevin, Andy (during the timestamp riots), Rene got so much hate. And now they feel the need to bully Jared out. I am glad I left that community a long time ago for the Easy Allies, and of course I have always been with all the IGN podcasts for years now. I only had it brought to my attention as one of the toxic people pointed it out below. Such a shame, this is a human being we are talking about.

+nhöö The most common complaints I see are that he interrupts too much, that he dominates a conversation and that he goes off on a tangent (i.e. derailing). However, it is just a confirmation bias. If you listen to gamescast for ten minutes, they all interrupt each other the same amount, the reason they don't like him in my opinion is they just don't like his personality, so they are looking for a reason to kick him off. Jared is high energy, and super positive, so I get that he isn't for everyone. But people have the ability to just not watch. Instead they decide to spend their time writing a comment that they hate him (knowing he will see) and liking all the other comments that say the same. There is plenty of stuff on youtube i don't like, but the KF community is unique in its ability to complain about every single thing and person.

Jacob Smith I'm sure Jared is a good guy, but I can't take him for long periods of time on these podcasts. His constant, over the top enthusiasm gets annoying and his insistence on loving EVERYTHING obscure or esoteric comes off like we're supposed to think it makes him a more "enlightened" gamer. He reminds me of some of those uber nerdy Gamestop employees that follow you around and never shut up the whole time you're in the store.

killerdude35 Sir, I fully understand why people don’t enjoy Jared, as I am one of them, however it sucks that there are hundreds of comments hating him for nothing else than being himself. I just wish people went about choosing content in a different way. I am happy to have anyone on any podcast, even if they are not my cup of tea, because realistically this is just nerds (which I am defo one) talking about games. For an hour a week. No need to make a person hate themselves. I get the criticism, and normally I would say go for it. But Jared is so nice and positive and friendly that it feels like beating on a baby.

I love Switch so much but unless the games I'm playing are analog required, I can't play any game with that joycon so called dpad. I use the pro controller for everything. Especially fighters

I can appreciate what Sam is saying even though I thought God of War was an epic experience. This year has been kind of dry. I’ve mostly been catching up on older games (Breath of the Wild, Yakuza Zero, Evil Within 2, Hollow Knight, Metro 2033), all of which are pretty awesome.

Detroit: Become Human is definitely a contender for me, it's huge development from it's demo KARA was well worth the wait. The soundtrack, visuals and storytelling is excellent - and has some of the most choices I have ever seen in a videogame before, one of Quantic Dreams' best games ever released. Although I have yet to play God of war, Celeste, & waiting for The Last Of Us II

If you buy a ubisoft game on pc you are better off just buying it on uplay unfortunately. Even if you buy it on steam, the game still opens uplay. As for Justin's controller issue, I used a PS4 controller and it was supported natively. I purchased from uplay.
