She was telling him about all the things she's seen, one of them was she had seen a man who could change his face, the way other men change their clothes.

Somewhere in episode 8-10 After they are captured, Quoran Halfhand tells Jon that Jon "must do what needs to be done". Quoran knew he was dead anyway so....

In the books it’s really clear, Quorin tells Jon “do not balk (flinch/cower)”.’ We had planned the whole thing out for Jon to kill him so he gains the trust of the wildlings. Jon/Qourin wasn’t angry or anything. In fact Quorin is a legendary swordsman and could easily have killed Jon. Quorin didn’t have any option of living since he’s a famed wildling enemy.

Remember when Tyrion played, “The Queen Mustn’t Know” game to determine trust while securing Myrcella’s betrothal? Baylish was furious he didn’t get Harrenhall as promised by Tyrion and never forgot. In this episode, Baylish snatches back Lord of Harrenhall title given by Tywin and Cercei for orchestrating the Tyrell’s war support and matchmaking. He’s throwing serious shade back at beaten-down Tyrion, taking Tyrion’s war glory, too. Great discussion, as always.❤

I think that the director said that the white walker didn't really see Samwell. They cut a scene and it just appeared that he was looking at Sam from the way it was edited. Halfhand knew that someone needed to infiltrate the Wildlings and, since he was once friends, with Mance and was notorious for killing a ton of Wildlings, he knew that Jon was the only one who could do that. I don't think he told Jon what he was doing, but I think Jon understood what Halfhand's plan was and that if he didn't kill Halfhand they were both going to die.

Halfhand also said something about hoping it was worth it for Jon to not kill Ygrette. He also knew the Wildlings WOULD be killing him. Not even Mance would be able to spare him. He had killed too many of their people. So how to keep Jon alive? Be out of character & provoke him so Jon silently knew Halfhand wanted Jon to kill him so Jon could get cred & survive.
