An interesting note about the beginning, when Tywin enters the throne room on the horse, it's actually a disrespect to Joffrey. No man is supposed to be sitting higher than the king in the throne room, which is why the throne sits atop a raised section with stairs. Entering on a horse was technically bad decorum, but is ignored because it's Tywin. He was essentially telling Joffrey "Yeh, you're king. But I'm in control."

The GET GOT list is missing Dagmer Cleftjaw. He's the dude who was leading Theon's bad decisions the whole time. He gave Theon the idea to take Winterfell. He's the one who told Theon to behead Ser Rodrick because "the other ironborn wouldn't respect him if he didn't." He's the one who had the idea to kill the farm boys and burn them to disguise their identities, and is also the one who actually killed and burned them. And after everything went downhill, despite everything being his ideas, he's also the one who knocked out Theon so the rest could leave, and also spears Maester Llewyn on the way out. He's easily overlooked because he's not that big a character overall, but he's super evil and has a horrible effect on the course of events.

Robb did agree. She arranged a marriage for him and Ayra. Ayra is a girl, so she has no choice; Robb is a male, so he does. Catelyn asked if he consented and he did. So yes, he is betraying a promise he made to his mother and the Frey for a random pretty chick he barely knows. That's a super emotional decision that doesn't advance his position. Is he still fit to lead?
@AriaIsara5 ай бұрын
Besides he had sex with that girl before marrying, so he just needed to do his end of the bargain by doing the political match, and he could still have an affair with his lover. It's not like he could never be with her, he didn't _need_ to marry her. If he's not ready to do his end of the political bargains when he's at war then he should desist.

I understand why y'all are frustrated with Catelyn, but consider this... she just wants her daughters back. As far as she's aware; her husband was unjustifiably killed by the same people her daughters remain in the company of - and not only that, but she's under the belief that her two youngest sons are dead, their home overtaken. meanwhile she has to strategize a war with her oldest, who's always at the risk of death himself. Can you blame her for wanting relief? For wanting the shreds of her family back, as torn as it may be? Robb is not prioritizing his sisters as much as he should be. It's not a crime for her to care
@solinary664 ай бұрын
not only that, but it was the smartest decision to make in that moment, because Robb's men were going to kill Jaime right then and there that night. not setting him free and losing the only bargaining chip they had in this war is what would have been /actually/ stupid. do people think that if Robb had been there he would've let his men go through with it? Cat doesn't have the authority that her son does to control his men, so she did what she could to control the situation. SO frustrating when people don't understand all that and then have the gall to accuse her of being irrational because 'lol woman emotional amirite'

Theon was a hostage. Same as Sansa. Ned had given an oath to King Robert to kill Theon if Balon rebelled again. Ned was cold towards Theon, because he knew that someday he might have to kill the kid. And Theon noticed this. Also Ned ordered Cat and Robb to keep Theon close, to never leave him out of sight. This was right before Ned was killed. Infact Robb gets armed guards to follow Theon in the woods around Winterfell. The reason Bran was alone in the woods when he was attacked by the wildlings, was because the guards focused on guarding Theon instead.

The issue with Theon is he was having an identity crisis that led to the trickle of his poor decision. His own Dad didn’t want him, he was taken by the Starks but knew he could never be one of them. I don’t condone his behavior but it’s not at all surprising. He constantly feels the needs to prove himself to feel accepted but ends doing the wrong thing. His character development though is one of my favorites tho
@h.s.62692 ай бұрын
The guy was in many ways screwed from the get go. The exposure to his clan and father was where it all was brought into question. I think if he had simply stayed with the Starks as originally meant to he wouldn't have faced his identity crisis at such a critical time, it'd have likely only ever happened when his own father was dead.
@IndomitableAde5 ай бұрын
14:04 Theon wasn't abducted. During Robert's Rebellion Theon's father Balon tried to secede from the 7 Kingdoms and establish his own. King Robert and Stannis plus Ned, Tywin and Ser Barristan laid siege to Pyke and defeated him. That was the same battle when Ser Jorah got his knighthood. Anyway after his father lost his bid for secession, Theon was sent to be a ward of house Stark as sort of like an insurance policy against his father acting up again. He was never treated as a captive; it wasn't considered appropriate for nobility, and it wasn't Ned's way of dealing with children. He was raised alongside the Stark boys as their brother. Theon was treated so well that he felt no need to try to escape the Starks and lived with them for years, unlike Bran and Rickon who ran away almost the minute Theon showed up. 15:00 yes, he would have been allowed to return home when his wardship came to an end. That's an agreement Ned would have honored.
@edn5 ай бұрын
Question when did his wardship end? What was the time table on that? -Adison
@IndomitableAde5 ай бұрын
@@edn good question. I had to look it up. It was supposed to end when Theon reached his age of majority, 16. He was 10 when he became a ward and he's been a ward for 9 years. He could have returned to Pyke at any time after turning 16 (minor wards couldn't travel as often or as freely), but 3 years later he's still at Winterfell. Not sure why. That reason might have been explained in the books but I don't remember it. I also found this: Considered to be in fosterage, Theon was raised with the Stark children and tutored with them in all disciplines, including instructions from Maester Luwin and training at arms from Ser Rodrik Cassel. Theon doesn't have much in common with most our ancestors, only a select fortunate few with "kind" enslavers 🙄 who were most likely also their father would have been treated as well as he was.
@giants2k85 ай бұрын
Theon was a hostage and he was taken as a guarantor that his father wouldn’t stoke further rebellions. He was far from a slave and was practically raised as a surrogate son. The practice of taking a belligerent vassal’s son after their uprising was stamped out and defeated wasn’t unusual at all during the real medieval period.

I agree with Bran in this instance. By the time I got to next season, I already knew the entire plot of the rest of the show and only because I based everything on honor. There is nothing on this earth like an honorable man. And once I realized that it was easy to piece everything together. I do believe Eddard / Starks grew to love him and if he really wanted to go back as an adult, they would have allowed him to. I also believe that as soon as he got there, he would’ve turned right tf back around and go back home to being a prince. On another note, I appreciate you two. Gotta call out the hypocrisy of hating on Catelyn for her bad decision but applauding Rob on his bad decision
@darure5 ай бұрын
Robb's decision to marry Talisa definitely felt worse to me than Catelyn's to free Jaime. Again, Catelyn only did that once there was a real danger of the Northmen killing him on their own, that would have been bad for Robb's cause too. Meanwhile, Robb is endangering all of his people with his marriage with Talisa which has no political value whatsoever. He's turning the Freys from a potential ally into a potential enemy. It's not "Catelyn's deal" he's not honoring, it's his own oath. Catelyn negotiated the terms with Walder Frey, and you saw how he was. Catelyn was able to get on his good side even a little bit thanks to her connections and courtesy. She then brought the best terms she could get to Robb, and it was up to HIM as the king to accept them or not. He wanted to cross the bridge, and so he accepted. The deal was made then, and no sooner. Now he's breaking it just to marry for love, which is a privilege half of the men fighting for him don't have. If you can call actions to protect one's children selfish, then Robb's decision is a selfish one too for sure.
@brt52735 ай бұрын
Spot on. Completely selfish and glaringly bad in the strategic sense. He don't even REALLY know enough about her! He's acting on an emotional impulse that should be chocked up to infatuation. The elder Starks are really BAD at strategy and decision making. I could go on a long rant but of course "spoilers".

I don’t know if I would say his decision to marry her was “worse” than Catelyn freeing Jamie but it sure was not a wise decision. Theon was taken as a hostage at nine years old. If his father rebelled again, Ned would have beheaded Theon. Remember in the first ep when Ned beheaded that 'deserter' from the Night's Watch? Theon was the one who handed Ned the sword. Theon had to carry around the blade that Ned was expected to use to behead him. The only Starks who treated Theon like family was Robb, who considered him a brother, and Ned, who tried to raise him to be a good man. Everyone else side-eyed him for the past decade. Theon's Stockholm Syndrome towards the Starks and identity issues about being a Greyjoy are the main reasons for his psychological instability and ensuing bad choices. I'm not excusing his actions, because attacking Winterfell and killing Ser Roderick and those boys land him on the GOT list without a doubt, but I do understand that the dude has issues, and those issues contributed to his bad choices. There is no excuse for Joffrey or Cersei or Stannis

So letting Jaime go was a very risky bet, a bet that he would uphold his end of the bargain, to send back the Stark girls once he reaches the capital, but a still a bet with the possibility it will work. Howeber Robb not doing his end of the bargain with Frey is just pure stupidity, from a tactical point of view, but also egocentricity. I'll be able to comment more on that at the end of the season!

It's crazy how messed Tyrion is in the books. Like he was a lot more disfigured at birth, but after that battle he lost his whole nose. Peter dinklage is a handsome dude, imagine a shriveled, uneven, noseless, half balding on one side his head... Tyrion is basically a ghoul from fallout at this point.

If nothing had changed and Theon had continued living with the Starks until his father died, they would have probably sent him back home to take his father's seat. However, it would have been a whole other matter if the Iron Islanders would have have accepted Theon as their overlord.

It's crazy how Theon thought he had it bad even tho Job had it was worse and wasnt even royalty in the same way he may as well have heen a commoner if his father wasnt Ned
