Am I the only one who thinks the dead in the crypts will actually rise to defend Winterfell? Not only are iron swords placed with the dead so their spirits do not come back vengeful, but the walls of Winterfell were imbued with magic from Bran the builder. What if the current Bran went to the godswood instead because he knew if he went below to the crypts the Night King's mark would break the spell. However I do see them doing the dead in the crypt becoming wights.

Lord the rings Helm's deep battle is less than 40 minutes and not consecutive compared to this at 82 minutes long, it is going to be the longest in the show's history and it's Battle of winterfell centerpiece will clock in at 40 minutes, making it the longest consecutive battle scene in cinematic history.

Someone made a really good point about how the crypts of Winterfell were built by Bran The Builder. Therefore they were probably forged using the same magic that the Child of the Forest used to construct the treehouse that fortified Blood Raven. If this were true, it would make it impossible for the Night King to resurrect any of the bodies in the crypts. Since his magic would render useless there. This could be the real reason why Bran choose not to go down to the crypts with the others. Since we know that the only way the Night King was able to break through the magic that surrounded Blood Raven’s treehouse was because he left his mark on Bran which basically turned Bran into his personal GPS signal.

The tombs are protected by steel over them, and rocks. And something about the Stark blood is supposedly capable to repel the Night King/White Walker's power. The Night King of the Night Watch (the 13th commander who might be a Stark, or a Bolton...) was under the influence but at no point they say he was a full Wight that snarls and stuff. he was able to command and order his fellow brothers after all. and then there is Benjen, who was a special kind of Wight for some SOOOOO i won't say the crypts are fully in danger...I feel they might be a huge Stark bones/corpses rising ti fight for the living

Since I'm amazed Theon has lived this long, I'm calling it for him... I think Theon is a big enough character death. Him dying protecting Bran seems to sum up his arc nicely... There are still enough episodes left so I can't see Jon, Dany, Bran, Sansa, Arya or even Jaime dying just yet, I think Ser Brienne will also live, probably Davos and Tyrion too, so any other 'major deaths' I see are Tormund (say it ain't so!!), Varys (maybe), Greyworm, Pod (😥), and Jorah, but I hope not. I am still wondering WHY are they not using the deffensive advantage of the walls. They are pretty much facing them on an open field. Really dumb considering that the wights don't seem to have any ranged weapons(aside from the spears the white walkers use) and they could just fend off waves after waves of wights before they even manage to break the first line of defense.

@@mayaparamita2254 If The Night's King commits his dragon then they could simply use Drogon and Rhaegal and probably win a 2v1 killing both Viseryon and The Night's King. Even if for some reason they wouldn't and the wall has been breached, it would still offer some deffensive advantage since the fighting zone would be smaller(the melted part) and make the numbers advantage less important rather than the open field they will face them in. So there's exactly no reason for them to move everything out and face them on equal grounds.

I still dont get why they defended Winterfell OUTSIDE the walls instead of manning the interior and creating as much fire trenches and obstacles as possible to mitigate the swan effect; that's like the point of holding a castle. I think they have a better chance if they retreat to the interior of the walls and use the dothraki as a backup or flanking charge in case they need it but honestly it'd be better if they all hold inside Winterfell.

I mean there's simply not enough space for all of them to be INSIDE the walls. Plus since the dead can climb over walls etc very easily, it would create more of a trapped effect, in which people would be stuck one on top of each other inside the walls unable to properly move and defend themselves.

All those wights had to have been fresh when turned, or else ... the Night King can, in fact, raise the buried, rotting corpses. You can't have it both ways. There's also the theory that the Night King isn't "evil", he's just a hero for the other side. But we may also now know that his army does have a weakness; they do have to be replenished at some point.

Have we all forgotten about the fact that there are secret tunnels under Winterfell that the starks built in case of emergencies. Maester Lewin tells Theon this when Ramsay comes to attack Winterfell in Season 2. If the Night King uses these tunnels to attack Winterfell from within, it confirms he is either a greenseer (worg) or he is originally a Stark.

Macedonian Sarrissa style Phalanx would actually probably be pretty effective. They Should use the fires to Corral them in narrow alleys. Which would give the Defending shieldsman better odd and providing a kill box to launch projectiles in. I personally would have tried to Work my horsemen around the back, or a Flank. Instead of placing them out front. I think the Dothraki get Crushed Immediately.

The way I see it there is something much larger than wanting to erase history he'd basically do that by killing everyone there, while that is one of the reasons I feel Jon is somehow another he had plenty of times that he could have killed Jon. Unless at least on the ice lake, he used him to get to Danny's dragons, he needed a dragon to get passed the wall with Bran going back south with the NK mark any magic that was placed upon the wall was broken and the NK could pass just needed something to break the wall for his army.

Agreed. I am surprised he wasn't mentioned as possibly dying as well. I think he will die too. I don't think Greyworm will die, even though it would make sense for him to die there. I don't think he will though, cause I read an article a few days ago that was an interview with Kit. He actually kind of described his last scene that he filmed, he said it was a conversation with Ser Davos, and Greyworm. (He said it wasn't The Final, Final Scene...Just the last scene that He filmed.) So, that leads me to believe that Greyworm and Ser Davos survive until the last episode.
