You mean like God? I can't help but feel that the show is making a statement about the role, functions and limitations of deities here. Bran can potentially see everything but that does not mean he knows everything. He, for instance, had initially thought Jon was a Sand instead of a Snow, not a Targaryen. He's not omniscient so much as potentially omniscient. He also can see what's in the past and present but I doubt he has the gift of foresight. I also don't think he's still human enough to care whether the humans around him know what he knows.

When you notice the whole series was about Arya and her training to become princess who was promised - from series one, she was being trained to be able to do exactly what she was supposed to do. By her dance master - What do we say to the god of death?, through tough times, training in Braavos. Jon was just fighter, but it was necessary to be able to be stealthy, know all ways of fighting. Bran saw it and that is why he gave her Valaryian dagger to kill Night King with.

Arya killing the Night King gives new meaning to Jaqen H'ghar being in her life. Jaqen can change faces. If you were unaware of that, you would never be able to catch him. Or he could easily have killed anyone chasing him. Yet, there he was, in the prisoner cart heading to the Wall with Arya, begging the question: Did he allow himself to be caught, knowing he would encounter (someone like) Arya on the trip? Additionally, when Arya was training, there were several episodes and events that transcended simple use of faces. When the waif becomes Jaqen, and when Jaqen becomes Arya just as she went blind; this all implied (to me) that Jaqen was actually way more than he seemed. Perhaps he was even the Many Faced God's avatar, or even the god themself! This notion is paid off when you see that slight smile on his face when Arya tells him that "A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell, and I am going home." One could be forgiven if they thought this was the plan all along, so she could go and kill the Night King, who was stealing lives from the Many Faced God!

@nishh6852
@nishh6852 Жыл бұрын
It’s not about prediction it’s about all the prophecies & magic around it. Now we are watching the “house the dragon” & realising how important the night king theme was (which the show runner completely messed it up) This was not a story about a freaking throne (which the show runners made out of it) this was about “the song of ice & fir” which was aegon’s dream & every prophecies around the night king was related to either a targeryn (which is jon) or the prince\princess promised which can be either jon or deny not arya. So arya killing the night king doesn’t make sense at all.
@cesargonzalez3599
@cesargonzalez3599 Жыл бұрын
@@Thomas-kj1fk That’s because the unpredictability made sense in the early seasons. It shocked the viewers but also invited hindsight. As in, when you think about it the unpredictable event that happened actually made sense. Arya killing the night king made a little sense, but not as much as Aegon having done it. In hindsight it was built up for Aegon to kill him. Everything he went through, it was personal and the writers felt it was better to subvert our expectations without earning it the GOT way.

People didn't think Arya killing the NK made sense. It makes PERFECT sense. She's no one. NK was busy looking at Aragorn i mean Jon Snow, while murder Frodo (Arya) snuck in for kill for the God of death....seems he didn't like competition. Obviously this isn't over yet. Jon kept the dead dragon busy while Melisandre pointed Arya to her new target.... You gotta wonder if this was Jaquen H'gar's intent all along. To kill the night king.... Jon actually united everyone in the battle & Dany saved the people she means to rule. And on to the next thing.... Tissues for next week too. But not nearly as stressful.

This episode had incredible visuals and acting, but there are too many logical holes in the narrative to make this a credible and immersive episode. I was waiting for a twist and instead the Night King was actually killed. He was a force more dangerous then all the houses put together. Like, for real, that amount to NOTHING. All that "Winter is Coming", "The Great War", "The True Enemy" . They should have been fighitng/dealing with the Night King for 2 seasons. 1 Entire season at a bare minimum. Hell, Joffrey was a problem almost every episode for 2 full seasons LOL And can you imagine after 7 seasons of build up we don't even see The Night 'King' in combat. And most of the GOT fans expected a final battle between NK and Jon (Indian Calypso, as you also said you were looking forward to see, in one of your previous reactions), GOT fans deserved at least a short fight between them! Also, the battle plan seems to have been made by someone who has lived all his life in a shoebox. Like the catapults stat to fire and after 4 min they stop firing, at the worst possible time, like historical sieges: Put catapults behind the walls to shoot OVER the walls! GOT S8E3: Puts them outside the walls to be abandoned after 4 shots;........ what is this?? No archers behind the stakes, not a single soldier behind the stakes. And Since when does the CALVARY go first in a battle? Dany spent like 3 seasons trying to bring the Dothraki over to Westeros and they get wiped out in seconds. And Jorah was on the front line of Dothraki, but of course he survive and the 50 lines of Dothraki behind him didn't. Also, Night King's generals could've grabbed popcorn and watched the episode with the rest of us! They were useless! Now just think at one man, Ramsay Bolton , if he was alive and in command..... As much as I hated Ramsey, I missed his fighting strategies when I watched this ep. Have the feeling he was the only one who knows how to plan a battle. Just watch "Battle of Bastards" and you'll be like "Those shields would do a better job against the undeads", or those arrow of Ramsey's army that were fired at enemies before physical combat..these are real combat strategies!! And a very dark episode literally, you were struggling to see what was happening... After all we can say that D&D rushed the whole season and you are not allowed to do something like that with such a giant/ phenomenon series.

There’s lots of hints arya will kill the night king upon rewatching: season 1: Arya sneaks behind bran, who can’t hit the target with his arrow, and hits a bulls eye (sneaky, protecting bran) Syrio training her “what do we say to the god of death? Not today.” God of death = night king Season 3: Melissandra’s prophecy she will shut many eyes forever (brown = Frey, green = little finger, blue = night king) All seasons: her learning to fight and kill from lots of people is an obvious build up Season 6: arya becomes “no one” and Bran has said “no one can kill the night king” Season 7: Sam reads about the catspaw dagger arya has at the citadel when he’s researching how to kill the night king Season 8: Arya sneaks up on Jon at the weirwood tree Bran gives her a dagger at the weirwood = bran saw the creation of the night king - being stabbed with a dagger at a weirwood tree Bran chooses to wait at the weirwood tree as bait And of course all the little references during the Long Night episode itself…

Let's assume that Mel was seeing the future in that scene (sorry, that's hard to write), you'd think she'd save the most important until last. Instead it's brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes. So Littlefinger was a greater danger than the Night King?

In season 1: Arya hitting a bullseye is just shown for introducing her character, she is more interested in ‘non lady’ activities and just mocks Bran in that scene. Season 2: Sure Syrio says that, but night king is neither god of death, nor god of anything, he is just a creature. Season 3: Melissandra, talking about the eyes that Arya will shut forever could mean literally dozens of characters of any kind: Freys, lannisters, Targaryens, etc. Season 6: Arya DID NOT become no one, she left as Arya Stark. Seasons 7-8 may be first actual buildups. But really the main argument against your beautiful theory is that D&D didn’t really plan to make Arya the night king slayer until season eight, as they mentioned themselves. So literally any ‘hints’ on Arya killing night king are coincidental.

When she saw the Usuper’s rebel host across the river they were armored all in ice, but she bathed them in dragonfire and they melted away like dew, and turned the Trident into a torrent. Some small part of her knew that she was dreaming, but another part exulted. This is how it was meant to be.'' - Daenerys, ASOS ''The red door was so far ahead of her, and she could feel the icy breath behind, sweeping up on her. If it caught her she would die a death that was more than death, howling forever alone in the darkness. She began to run. The door loomed before her, the red door, so close, so close, the hall was a blur around her, the cold receding behind... She could smell home, she could see it, there, just beyond that door, green fields and great stone houses and arms to keep her warm, there. She threw open the door. And saw her brother Rhaegar, mounted on a stallion as black as his armor. Fire glimmered red through the narrow eye slit of his helm. “The last dragon,” Ser Jorah’s voice whispered faintly. “The last, the last.” Dany lifted his polished black visor. The face within was her own.'' - Daenerys, AGOT

Bran gave her that dagger for that reason. You can see a very faint smile from Bran at the Night King right before Arya appears. All of her training has led to this moment. From balancing, to chasing cats, to water dancing. And the switch of the hands Serio taught her. Jon was the catalyst in her killing him, by giving her needle and encouraging Arya to be Arya. I think he yells at Viserion because he is frustrated because Viserion is doing all he can do to block Jon from getting to the Night King. Hope you are OK.

This kind of puts all the f'd up things Melisandra did into perspective. If she saw all of that coming, saw what could happen if they lose, it makes sense she'd do whatever she believed it would take to stop it, no matter how messed up, since ALL life literally hangs in the balance. The show leads you to believe there will be some Jon and Night King showdown, but really it wouldn't make sense for the Night King to face Jon in single combat after what he saw at Hardhome, knowing that if Jon does win he loses an army of 100k+ in one fell swoop. What a crazy episode! One of the best in all of GOT for sure. Thanks for letting us join you for this one.

As promised with the last episode, here comes the battle stupidity. First and foremost, the onager (catapult) and trebuchet placement was horrifyingly bad. You NEVER place them outside the wall because they're too easy to overrun. 2nd, the only reason you use a cavalry charge is to hurt an enemy's morale but since they're undead they have no morale or life to lose. 3. You REALLY don't use a cavalry charge with light cavalry because they are skirmishing troops meant for light hit and run tactics and to get them bunched up in a bunch of infantry is just begging for them to get pulled off their horses and killed. 4th, there should have been SEVERAL ditches and stake lines with archers between each line and considering the wolfs wood was right on their doorstep it should have been simple to do. 5. There should have been a moat around Winterfell. They had several thousand able bodied men and women to dig it and several weeks if we're to believe Sansa being in charge of the castle prep. MINIMUM there should have been a moat around the immediate area of the gatehouses. You didn't even have to fill it in because the white walkers would have been able to freeze the water but they wouldn't have been able to stack on top of each other nearly as easily and breach the wall like that. 6. You don't have the bulk of your army outside the castle like that with the exception of your archers (who would have been protected by the ditches and stake pits and would withdraw behind the next line of stakes when 1 portion is overrun and finally into the castle when the last ditch is overrun). You'd possibly have your cavalry in reserve along the edges of the castle to perform a flanking/pincer maneuver from outside of the side sally ports. 7. If your enemy is standing within arrow range and not shooting stuff at you, you would definitely fire at them. 8. Wooden hoardings should have been constructed along the towers and bridges (again the fact that a forest is within close range and there were thousands of people to do so who were apparently twiddling their thumbs for weeks) 9. It was stupid of them to put the weakest within the crypts. Jon KNEW the night king could raise corpses but put the weakest in danger. There is more, but you probably didn't read the entire thing anyway. lol Love ya darlin

If George R.R Martin ever gets around to writing the battle I'm pretty sure it will be very different if for no other reason than Winterfell being a much bigger castle in the books. The battle of the Blackwater bay for instance was very different in the books,and GRRM has read enough history to know some of the battle strategies used in medieval warfare even though they are facing undead monstrosities.

Not too proud to admit that I screamed at my television a few times due to the stupidity. One of my favorite battles to study is the battle of Montgisard. The battle of Agincourt is another. P.S. The second he lets the knife go and gives it to Arya, Brand has this inward look on his face like he just moved another piece on the chess board. And there’s that look between him and the night king.
