I think one of the problems is length of the season 8. They kinda shoot themselves in a leg with only 6 episodes, any character development needs some time to happen. If everything happens within one episode then it seems forced, illogical, etc. If they took the time to develop things over multiple episodes instead of "checking the list" of actions that need to happen, it would help the story a lot (even if they would stick with whatever plot points are they going for now).

George rr Martin described it perfectly You can’t have a murder mystery where you write that the Butler did it so you leave various clues and nods and foreshadowing to set it up but someone in the internet figures it out so you just change the murderer. D&D were just subverting expectations for the sake of subverting expectations it’s annoying. Then the interview where he says “we know him has been built up as the hero but it didn’t feel right to us” is other words for “we just wrote in a surprise twist for the sake of creating a surprise which made no real sense and made Jon snows arc with the knight king pointless”

The most frustrating thing about all of this is that the show runners basically just gave up on the series. HBO gave them the green light for more episodes yet D&D pulled a House Glover and refused the call. If they were tired or lacked the necessary skills to complete the series. The honorable thing for them to do would have been to give the show to someone who could. So they wouldn't tarnish all the years of work that went into making the show great from a storytelling perspective.

I wouldn't say that Dany's reaction to Viserys's death was the first sign of her madness. He was abusive, sold her as a sex slave, and threatened to cut out her baby. Sansa had a similar reaction when she fed Ramsey to his dogs (in fact, she even smiled), and no one is saying that Sansa is crazy because of how she reacted in that scene. Daenerys has always been ruthless and cold when it came to her enemies and she always had a tactical reason for killing people (even if she made a mistake). She locked up her dragons because ONE child got burned. She said that she would shed blood of her enemies not innocents. She went from never having killed innocent women and children to committing full blown genocide. It would have been better if they had depicted her as killing innocents on a smaller scale due to her paranoia or instability before burning King's Landing. Also, it would have made more sense if she had just been cornered or felt like she had no choice but to burn the city or even if she had just burned the red keep that resulted in casualties. Not mass murder after they surrendered. She went from saving humanity by fighting the white walkers to being a genocidal psycho in two episodes. Plus Emilia Clarke didn't even know that her character would take this turn. If they had always planned on having Dany go crazy, they most likely would have let Emilia know. Her reaction to Viserys's death was not a sign of madness (in my opinion). I think it was more numbness because of the years of his abuse and his threatening her child was the last straw. Again, Sansa reacted similarly, but no one is saying she's crazy for it.

I think outside of the battle of winterfell this season has been great. The problem is the writers didn't make it clear why the characters are doing what they're doing so people don't understand it. The only reason I get it is because everything has gone just about how I thought it would. For example: DANY IS NOT MAD. This makes a huge difference in her motivation for what she did. She planned it in advance to claim the Iron Throne by force since she no longer had a claim, betray Jon and Tyrion because they betrayed her, and get revenge for Missandei.

I feel like this happens with other HBO shows too. They deliver great season after great season and then it feels like they abruptly rush the ending of the show. Deadwood had 3 great seasons, then offered David Milch a 4th season while only half the episodes to wrap the show up. He refused though. Boardwalk Empire had 4 full seasons and then had a short 5th season that jumped years into the future so they could wrap up the show. Now Game of Thrones is trying to wrap up the final season in only 6 episodes. The battle with the Night King should have been an entire season on its own, instead it was over in one episode. Each time its so the creators could jump onto another gig. HBO wanted Milch to do John from Cinncinati (cancelled after one season) and they wanted Terence Winter to do Vinyl (also cancelled after one season). D&D and wrapping things up so they can produce the next Star Wars trilogy.

@TheKidDoc815 жыл бұрын
What happened was that the showrunners ran out of books to adapt. There are also a lot of characters and subplots that appeared in the books that aren't in the show, and that made book readers very confused as to which way the show was going. For example: The Night King is not in the books (as of yet), but the Night's King is mentioned, who was the thirteenth commander of the Night’s Watch, that fell in love with a women whose skin was as white as the moon and eyes like blue stars. Sansa was never married to Ramsay in the books. Ramsay married Sansa's best friend Jeyne Poole, who was passed off as Sansa, and was treated a hell of a lot worse then how Ramsay treated Sansa in the show. The whole Dorne plot involving Arianne Martell and Princess Myrcella that was completely ignored for the terrible Ellaria Sand plot in the show. The Ironborn had some great characters in the books that were never explored, not to mention that Euron Greyjoy was a completely different, darker character than the creepy pirate we got in the show. There is also Lady Stoneheart, who I was really hoping would be a character in the show, but alas, it was never meant to be. Let's just say that the Game of Thrones show and the A Song Of Ice And Fire books are two very different beasts.

The war was over, Daenerys won, all she needed to do was get Cersei, roll credits!! Nah breaker of chains felt like killing thousands of innocents which contradicts the first 7 seasons. What's the point of the night king, what's the point of Brienne and Jaime's relationship, what's the point of of Bran's entire story?? And don't get me started on the plot armor, story conveniences, and absurd battle tactics. S8 is a complete failure imo.
@thesexyshark16465 жыл бұрын
It doesn't contradict tho because she has talked about burning cities down since like season 2. The madness has always been there and that argument is incredibly weak.
@travisspazz16245 жыл бұрын
@@thesexyshark1646 Was it madness when in S4 she locked up her dragons after ONE child was killed? Was it madness when she once and for all liberated Mareen at the end of S6? Or in S7 when she said she will not be queen of the ashes?
@zeroskaterz925 жыл бұрын
@@thesexyshark1646 Seems like your argument here is the weak one. Unless you can provide me a proof where Dany was totally okay with killing children like she did in the latest episode to justify her being a "mad" queen.

Cleganebowl is hype but admit it in that point of the story Cleganebowl isn't really needed or logical. Like if the Hound didn't really care about Kings, queens, dragons soldiers, etc and would just straight up fight the mountain for revenge he had plenty of opportunity before even back to Robert's rule.

For me it feels like they were filming season 7 and got told 8 would be the last so they had 6 episodes to tie everything up therefore rushing and leaving stuff out etc.
@cuddlycrow1985 жыл бұрын
The reason they couldn't give more episodes is directly because showrunners Dan & Dave wanted it that way. Not HBO. D&D wanted to move on to other things and have stated so multiple times. The rushing lies in their hands and no one else.

I'm not angry with what's happening, I'm angry with the way it's happening. The arc of some characters, some of them crossing each other without sense ("built sense" like Euron and Jaime scene), the non existing trigger for Danny's actions, Arya's horse came out of nowhere! It's just I feel like they could've written it in a different way to get the same result but I'm not enjoying the forsake of surprise that's seems they have been after for. I think they've ruined the arcs of the main characters (built for 7 seasons) and have given better endings for some seconds ones (Theon, Jorah, The Hound, Melisandre, etc).

Not just past few seasons the very first shot of the very first episode was setting up the big bad and they basically flushed it all down the toilet, in favor of the golden company, sell swords no one gives a shit about and which as expected were another let down. It'll be interested to hear what the actors have to say after it's all finished.

Hi Guys, I don't think DISAPPOINTED is the right title for this video. The actors are trained not to give any meat that may accidentally spoil things for the audience. I know this was probably a way of teasing and jokes for us but, it was taken out of context. But, it's a good video. I love you guys. Keep doing what you're doing. Remember what Ramsay said to Theon, "If you think this is going to have a happy ending, you have not been paying attention."

The problem is deeper than the emotional connection because of the rhythm. Season 1, when Bran woke up from the coma and the old lady was telling him about "winter", she said years of people starving, of extreme cold, an endless night....the way she described it could give you chills season 8, we don't see any of that pain, that sorrow, we hear Sansa vaguely talking about the feeding people problem and the wars between the first men and the children of the forrest and the first one which involved the White Walkers lasted 2 thousand years and little flying Arya Stark just ends it in a night?? Season 3, Jaime Lannister was firmly opposed to anyone burning down the city because of the innocent people there, season 8 Jaime "I don't care about the innocent people". Not to forget that he was super pissed at Cersei because Tommen killed himself because of her so it doesn't make sense. And the comment is already too long but there is more wrong with this season.

HBO wanted GOT to keep going (to 10 seasons actually) but D&D and show makers didn’t even wanna do season 8 at all. It’s stupid because how you could start a show and then not have any way to end it or want to abandon it before you’re done... So HBO is making the spinoffs most likely because they couldn’t continue the original one

I actually can't wait for the sixth episode, I'm excited to see how they can out-stupid episode five. Just like how they out-stupid episode 4 with episode 5. Episode 4: 1 Scorpion dragon killing weapon kills 1 dragon easily in just a few seconds. Episode 5: 1 dragon, completely decimate 100s of "battle ready" scorpion dragon killing weapon in a few seconds. WTF!!! Since we're in the realms of not making sense anymore, my prediction for Episode 6: Arya jumps out of nowhere and stabs Drogon in the heart with her Valyrian Dagger, with Drogon in the process wiping out Grayworm to death with his tail, and then Daenery chokes herself to death while trying to resuscitate her baby dragon, because it's all soot (no fire) hahaha

Disappointing by Kit doesn't necessarily mean the quality of the season. I'd say it's more about how the characters play out, vs what the viewers actually want, which may not actually make for the best story telling. This show to me, has never given viewers what they want, and that is in a way what makes people go crazy and come back to just keep hoping and wishing for their characters they like to become something they want them to be. That being said this season has a different feel from previous seasons.....because it is different. I like to see how people complain about the first two episodes of this season because "nothing happened". That is what 98% of episodes of Game of Thrones are. If this season was longer with more episodes, I think people would just keep complaining about those episodes where nothing happened. Those are the episodes that flesh out story and build hype and character development. All these characters at this point have pretty much been fleshed out and built up enough. I think we all know who they are, except for now we have to deal with not the Night King, not Cercie, but someone else might be the end all enemy, which is just another surprise, like many others the show has given us. So far I like the season and it kind of feels more like a 6 part "event", more than just a typical/final season. I like your videos, keep up the good work.

Character development doesn’t stop when new motives arise. There has to be build up to explain a character’s actions, i,e Mad Queen, Jaime leaving Brienne for Cersei, Varys, Tyrion, etc. Everything is so rushed so that execution comes off flat and we can’t believe it based on te previous, long and careful character development. It’s not about viewers being upset because they didn’t get what they want, people are upset because characters are ruined since they have no solid explanation to their actions. The main problem with the first two episodes is that any of the character building or conflicts they did try to set up, were utterly ruined by the third and last episodes. Episode 2 was well received and people loved it because it seemed like a sad goodbye to all the characters we knew and loved. And yet nearly all survived the battle in the third episode, rendering episode 2 and all its foreshadowing just filler. Lastly, they cut out many important scenes that could have made for fantastic character development and story building (Tyrion and Bran? Tyrion could have used Bran’s knowledge to pull something brilliant during the battle). That’s why “nothing happened”, because GOT used to have brilliant conversations and zero spectacle which added to the mystery and cleverness of the plot. The reunions, which made up a majority of the episode 1 and 2, did not serve the storytelling in any way for the most part.

What's annoying is that these plot points could have worked, just given time to breathe and occur naturally. Everything is just so rushed and that's all to do with the hubris and ego of Benioff & Weiss refusing to pass the show off to other showrunners. If they wanted to go do other things, that's fine. But they selfishly HAD to be the one's to finish the show as well, and ultimately that's what's going to kill it.
