You people are overestimating the books, lol the last 2 were convoluted and super boring (a feast for crows almost forced me into a coma). If the plotlines are just that, christ snow, king bran, mad queen, etc... We have to ask ourselves, these outcomes are really interesting? Like you said, this series was suppose to be more unique and creative. Martin always talked shit about how his intent was to subvert fantasy cliches. But he is struggling to write about a martyr hero? Bran as the destiny "child who was promised"? Daenerys becoming evil because her father is evil? C'mon, these are all fantasy cliches, lol It's particularly hilarious to me how Martin trashed Harry Potter (with reason, this series sucks)... but in the end, he has his own harry potter on bran, lol as a bonus, he also has a icy nemesis just like voldemort. After I read most of George's past work, I am almost fully convinced the guy is a scam. Mediocre scifi writer who got lucky with very good 3 novels from ASOIF, his popularity exploded. But when you get curious enough to read other stuff from him, oh boy... it's ugly, to say the least.

That first execution scene killed all immersion for me. The captured soldiers don't struggle, they don't plead, don't react when the Northern soldiers look like they might be willing to rescue them. The first guy to be executed doesn't do or say anything the entire, treating the ongoing argument over his life like it's a discussion about pineapple on pizza And don't feed me a line about how they're too demoralized to try, they don't even have the correct posture for that. They are sitting straight up on their knees like they're stretching for morning kalesthenics, not slumped down like they've not got a single shit left to give or curled up in a fetal position. I don't feel like I'm watching unarmed prisoners being executed by a war criminal, I'm watching actors in a play. A shitty play, by kindergarteners.

Season 8 is full of writing like that, it reminds me of stuff I wrote for my fantasy novel when I was in the 4th grade. The big war meeting scenes, first in S7 then the one where My Sundae gets killed in S8, killed immersion for me. Like it had never been established in-universe before that war meetings between warring parties went down like that, and they suddenly retcon the lore and make that the way they go in the very end? that'd be like the Starks coming back to King's Landing to have a tea party with the Lannisters in S2 or S3. Or if, during the meeting between Renly, Stannis, and Cat in S2, if Renly grabbed the red priestess, slit her throat in front of Stannis, and then they just said "Well see you at the battle I guess" and turned and trotted back to their respective camps. Or if in S6 when Ramsay killed Rickon in front of Jon and Jon was just like "ah that sucks, well see you at the battle next week." Utter nonsense. But no, instead of writing consistently or writing things that work well, they had to do the Marvel thing and also we needed to see Dany walking away angrily so we could know she was going crazy but we also had to see her not react just yet because she hasn't yet had a chance to slaughter the entirety of King's Landing for absolutely no reason . *eyeroll*

Early Martin didn’t simply ‘subvert expectations’, he gave us what we all should have expected. Look back at the red wedding and remember that the frays were never a mystery, you always knew what they were like and this was always right up their alley. However, I think the show would argue that the line of succession was bypassed when the Lords of the North declared him king. It doesn't make much legal sense but I can believe it. In the Books however, it will make a lot more sense since Robb's will most likely names Jon as his heir and there are people who are alive who know this.

Yeah I was disappointed too. They just castrated Jon this season. I hated that they had Tyrion have to convince him that Daenerys was evil, like Jon didn't need to be convinced he was there. I hated that conversation between him and Tyrion I think Jon should've went up to her himself. Also I don't buy that he was blinded by love because if he was so in love then he wouldn't have been repulsed by the sex just because she was his aunt. When people are in love you don't just turn off your feelings like that and it took Jon no time to pull away from her.

I don’t think they forgot so much as they thought he needed to be punished/the Unsullied wanted him punished. It's the representation of which noble house happen to be in a position of power, and the competition for your house to be the one on the top of the wheel. Which this new system doesn't change.

With Sansa as Queen in the North, the Wall in under her responsibility, she can bail John out if she so wishes. Same for Arya, she can swoop north, grab John and then sail west together away from Bran's juridiction. In the end, Tormund waited for him, and the Free Folk ends up being the guys who show up for John. The dude looses everything over and over for the greater good and just because there is the remnants of the Unsullied in town his King of a brother, Queen of a sister and shadowy magical ninja assassin of other sister all just allow his ultimate demise and send him to rot in the north, how can you have any sympathy for the three Stark sibling after this. I'm dumbfounded that after killing Dany they didn't opt to put the Dothraki and Unsullied invaders to death. 1. They are clearly still loyal to Dany, they are only a liability at this point. 2. You could shift the blame for the sake of explaining to the remaining citizenry why so many of them were brutally murdered, "we killed the woman responsible and now we will punish those who enabled her bloodshed." Lostin Thegarden I don't think the length is the problem here. I made a reaction video against Anomaly Inc's criticism of "Dumb & Dumber" and countered all of his main arguments. That said, I do feel that it was strange that the Unsullied and Dothraki let Jon live after he murdered their Queen, I was kind of expecting him to be burnt to a crisp by the dragon, or be tortured to death for his treachery. However, I am not in the position to make a television series of this impressive scale and quality, and as I wouldn't want someone interfering with my own creative work and telling me that it HAD TO BE a certain way and I had to REMAKE IT TO PLEASE THEM the same should apply to David Benioff and D.B.Weiss, so any misgivings I might have about subtle aspects of the final episode, in an excellent series, that has probably been the best thing to ever be on television (only _Heimat_ and _Fanny and Alexander_ come to mind as alternatives), can be things I feel and critically discuss with others but never have the temerity to demand HBO to fire the showrunners and remake the final season. This is a dangerous precedent that was first set by petition to remake the _The Last Jedi._ I hated that movie and have been working on my own re-edit of _Star Wars_ sequel trilogy, but I am not making it part of a campaign to remove Rian Johnson's movie from the official canon and then replace it with my own work. That is crazed, and as a creator it disgusts me that people have this attitude of historical revisionism. Has any media ever been redone as a result of a fan backlash?

About the thing wheter GoT season 8 or TLJ was more damaging to the overall franchise: For me it's definitely GoT. With Star Wars you could simply watch the original trilogy and that's it, you would get a great story and conclusion and no need to continue watching the rest of the movies. But with GoT it's one continuous story and you can't just simply stop after a specific season.

You can stop after season 4 and it all actually works out kind of well. Yea, the future of the world is up in the air, but for the most part, almost every main character to that point has a semi-complete character arc, and the final scene of that season is a moving, beautiful send-off to the series. I liked parts of the seasons that followed, but if you stop after 4, it all works out pretty well.

1:49:34 I disagree with the Hound being the one character to get an ending that made sense. There have been only a few times throughout the series where the Hound even mentions the Mountain, and no clear evidence that Gregor is living rent free in Sandor's head, and that he's just OBSESSED with wanting to kill him up until the last few episodes. They only put Cleganebowl in because it's a meme, and the Hound willingly died over an obsession that seems to have been given to him by fan expectations rather than being the natural endpoint of where his arc was going.

The more I think about it, the more it seems like D&D intentionally used the last season (maybe 2) to act as a resume for future jobs. They spent SO MUCH time and thought on strong visuals, even when they didn’t make sense, with no virtually no dialogue. … it seems like they had a checklist of each type of blockbuster scene they needed. Terrifying zombie bear ripping through lightly armed men… CHECK Dragonfire absolutely wrecking the Wall in a giant explosion… CHECK Lively warriors with flaming swords, extinguished in the void of darkness… CHECK Waves of mindless enemies overrunning the good guys… CHECK Arbitrary stealth scene in a library IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE to build tension… CHECK Climactic surprise assassination scene at the height of tensions… CHECK Hordes of (Nazi) soldiers cheering their evil (Leader) Queen… CHECK Dragon wings to symbolize Danys transformation into Malifacent… CHECK It’s like they wanted the visuals first, and then decided how they could make them fit into the story! Now that I see it, I can’t unsee it.
