The main thing I hate about season 6 and honestly the 7 &8 as well is that Jon’s death is supposed to be this huge moment for his character that changes who he is. And he comes back like nothing happened and acts no different from before. Actually I take that back, he’s dumber than before. He’s not supposed to be dumb, part of his arc in book 5 is learning that being honorable can be a bad thing in this world. That story culminates with his death at the hands of his own brothers. George has talked about how cheap it is for people to just come back from the dead like it’s nothing. If Jon is gonna come back he should be fundamentally changed and less honorable than he was before. In the show he just comes back and is Ned Stark 2.0.
@sergiomendoza48502 жыл бұрын
This is one thing I really want George to play with when winds (hopefully) comes out. I hope that Jon really comes into his Targaryen side and makes more dishonorable choices. Especially when it comes to Daenerys, I really hope that he fucks that whole situation up and it ultimately ends with her destroying kings landing. I’m sure young griff will also have a role to play as well when it comes to Daenerys going mad but I do think it will be Jon who’s going to be the last straws.

Well, DD had no bloody idea how to go on from there with no book material to go by.. there’s a reason why GR Martin is a world famous Multi platinum selling author and they are producers/writers for a entertainment company.. Jon is suicidal, depressed and vengeful throughout season 6. You acknowledge the change in your post but say it doesn't count because it's just "le bad writing xD" that he's making poor decisions. You wanted some kind of comical, over the top change where he becomes the Lich King or something lmao

I think people forget that Season 6 set up some really amazing plot points such as Bran being able to alter time, it's just bc they abandoned these ideas that people look back on S6 in a different lens. But in the moment for what it was S6 was great
@unc542 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Season 6 ages poorly because none of the build-up is properly paid off. Cersei blowing up the Sept? No consequences. Jon being Rhaegar's son? Barely relevant. Bran becoming the 3 Eyed-Raven? Nothing. And I can keep going.

Not to defend DandDs writing, but I think what they were going for with Bran was the "kill the boy and let the man be born" thing they kept saying in season 5 to Jon. It serves as a counter point to Jon's literal death and rebirth. To elaborate: Blood Raven knew he was running out of time before the long night so he forced the teenaged bran (even younger in the books) to come to the far north to be trained as the new Raven (he'd allegedly tried, and failed, this many times before with other people but this is speculation.) Hered the problem with that: when Blood Raven came to the night's watch he was a whole as adult, he had lived a full life. Served as Hand of the king, put down multiple rebellions, staged countless executions and lead an army as well as the nights watch, etc etc. He was mature enough and willful enough to keep his personality through the transformation into an omnicient and powerful being. (Incidentally even as a man Blood Raven was always trying to force destiny and manipulate everyone and everything around him using his powers) Oppose this experience with Bran, again just a boy, who doesn't really know who he is yet and Blood Raven forced him into a role far faster and sooner than was meant. Out of necessity maybe but still. Bran couldn't remain himself after that and it broke him into the emotionless husk we got for 3 more seasons. Makes sense in the story? Sure. Fun to watch over and over? Absolutely not. Terribly boring character. Unfortunately instead of committing to the decision DandD decided to just not use him as much toward the end as they sensed the fan boredom.
@defresh33392 жыл бұрын
They really dumbed down the show after a while. Re-watch S1E1, and NOTHING is outright explained, they did such a good job of providing information naturally. And the very first scene, there are no words spoken for a long time before the 3 nightswatchmen discuss the situation North of the wall. Those types of scenes went away in later seasons... 🤷♂️ I still love this series, but season 1 was so good
@danoso09312 жыл бұрын
The reaction to Jon's resurrection really bothers me. I mean, no one really is in awe of Jon, no legend is born from that event. In season 8, Thormund recollects Jon riding a dragon but not fucking coming back from the dead. This is the event that should rally the North around Jon, because now he has become greater than life. Kind of like how in earlier seasons the common people were asking if it really was true that Robb could transform into a wolf.
@toneriggz2 жыл бұрын
Messed up thing about the beef between Jon and Alliser is that if Alliser knew who Jon really was, he'd probably be on his hands and knees asking for forgiveness. And Bran being shocked that Ned defeated Arthur Dayne with Howland's help was a bad choice. Ned always acknowledged that Howland is the reason why he survived. They botched Arthur's sword, Dawn too. Dawn is supposed to be one of the greatest swords of all time.
@thuginstincts2 жыл бұрын
As George always says, writing has no limits, creating television does. Maybe they tried the scene with one sword and it didn’t give Arthur the image of untouchable that they were going for. Undoubtedly, him kicking ass with 2 swords makes him stand out more. We haven’t seen anyone else in the show do it. But, We have seen many great fighters kick ass with one sword. He’s suppose to be the greatest fighter ever basically so they needed to make him stand out. Perhaps that was their logic.
@toneriggz2 жыл бұрын
@@thuginstincts I think they just didn’t want to put much work into making Dawn the epic sword that it is. If they did Dawn right, it would stick out from every other sword. But it might require extra work, maybe even CGI.

He was forced to be in close proximity with the man that ATE his mom! Jon knows all this b/c he's the one who saved Oillie from them. Yet Jon is acting like it's cool. Oillie is the who feels betrayed by him. Oillie wasn't at Hardhome. So all he sees is murders and he has a personal vendetta with a few of them. Jon should've sent Oillie away on some mission south. Just to get him away from the wall b/c of course something was going to happen. Arya is not the only one who cares about her family and is capable of getting revenge.

One of the best tangents ever was in episode 4 review (I think) where they went on for five minutes about character personalities and types of cereals. Aaron said Stannis was a bowl of Captain Crunch without milk, so he just cuts the roof of your mouth. But Robb, sweet Robb, was a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch with milk, goes down smooth and satisfies all. I knew that episode this was the channel to watch. The only thing I'd say to defend the decision to remove Bran from season 5, is that between books 4 and 5, Bran only has three chapters, with the early part of his training being largely skipped over. So, even George himself has spent little time with Bran beyond the wall.
@ianschmitt49912 жыл бұрын
In the books it seems likely that the lack of Bran chapters in Feast & Dance will be made up for in TWOW if it ever comes out. The show had zero reason to remove Bran from season 5 if their intention was to have him be king in the end since season 5 was the book divergence anyways
