I will steal this comment from another video: "Jaime says to Ned that when Ned's father was burned to death there were 500 men that just stood and watched and no one dared lift a finger, 500 men and the room 'stayed silent as a crypt'. This scene says a lot about Jon's great character. The same circumstances, a King burning a man to death, the people feel pity towards him but no one lifts a finger or says a word, no one but Jon. This really shows how Jon is one in a thousand."

@post-leftluddite5 жыл бұрын
Stannis isn't full in the books, especially since we're given a much bigger window into his mind, for instance, the scene in A Clash of Kings, Davos I where he explains to Davos why he's embracing Melisandre when he's never been a "godly" man previously: "I trusted in his wisdom and your wiles, and what did they avail me, smuggler? The storm lords sent you packing. I went to them a beggar and they laughed at me. Well, there will be no more begging, and no more laughing either. The Iron Throne is mine by rights, but how am I to take it? There are four kings in the realm, and three of them have more men and more gold than I do. I have ships . . . and I have her. The red woman. Half my knights are afraid even to say her name, did you know? If she can do nothing else, a sorceress who can inspire such dread in grown men is not to be despised. A frightened man is a beaten man. And perhaps she can do more. I mean to find out. "When I was a lad I found an injured goshawk and nursed her back to health. Proudwing, I named her. She would perch on my shoulder and flutter from room to room after me and take food from my hand, but she would not soar. Time and again I would take her hawking, but she never flew higher than the treetops. Robert called her Weakwing. He owned a gyrfalcon named Thunderclap who never missed her strike. One day our great-uncle Ser Harbert told me to try a different bird. I was making a fool of myself with Proudwing, he said, and he was right." Stannis Baratheon turned away from the window, and the ghosts who moved upon the southern sea. "The Seven have never brought me so much as a sparrow. It is time I tried another hawk, Davos. A red hawk." -Davos I; A Clash of Kings

Book Stannis shows a more “break before I bend” mentality and is very uncompromising with his ideals, I couldn’t ever see him burning Shireen because knows in his heart that it’s wrong. Show Stannis is also stubborn, but in more so he’ll do whatever it takes to fulfill his “destiny”, not even his daughter can stop that.

33:09 "First time she calls them Viserion and Rhaegal?" Yep. It's honestly little technical script things like that which are my biggest personal problem with the show. A lot of people would say bad storytelling like in Dorne or book fans will gripe about differences... but that's all subjective. Not establishing the names of the other two dragons until season 5? That's just an objective mistake. And it's hard to see how that could have been just an oversight. They have to have thought about saying Viserion and Rhaegal's names at some point, but never cared or took the effort to do it. There were many opportunities in season 2 for Dany to say their names onscreen. But if someone were to watch this show without any outside knowledge about it, the ability to look up things on the internet, etc... they would assume the other two dragons are nameless until this episode. And especially considering what eventually happens with Viserion, it would have been beneificial to do as much work as possible to establish him as a character in any way you could, even if not as much as Drogon. The LEAST you can do is tell people their names. No extra CGI costs required. I get that they have to limit the shots of the dragons, and they focused their attention and resources on making Drogon the hero model which would stand up to the most screentime. But that doesn't mean that Dany had to ignore Viserion and Rhaegal to the point of not even mentioning their names, when she's said "Drogon" like a hundred times by this point in the series. That affects nothing in terms of saving money or fitting into a production schedule. That's just a writing decision, and it doesn't seem like a good one to me.
@ceciliamiller9755 жыл бұрын
I gotta agree with that. What was the reason for NOT bringing in the Names of her CHILDREN?? Wierd.
@connorcoates16665 жыл бұрын
AWS Vids eh, I agree with you, but bad storytelling isn’t objective, and it’s noticeable. When a character’s actions make no sense in the circumstances, or when the writing is considerably worsened in the show, it sucks.

"Daenerys has good intentions, but not good decision making. And we see that over and over again with her but she's learning. And she's put into a tough situation, I mean, to learn to be a ruler, unlike "Young Griff" who's been raised to be a King, she needs some time here, it makes sense why she keeps making these poor decisions." The sentiment behind THAT statement Is precisely my point; why Daenerys has never been wasting her time or just "spinning her wheels" in Meereen. As so many people suggest. Not only does she need to be at the height of her military power before she can even consider trying to take the Iron Throne, she needs to have spent enough time making all the mistakes and bad decisions while she's essentially "practicing" being a Queen in Essos. Otherwise, even if she can manage to take the Throne, she would have next to a zero chance of holding on to it very long at all if she shows up an amateur ruler. In all reality, she couldn't have ever left for Westeros until the end of season six, at the very earliest. Because it isn't until then that she has her Army of Unsullied, her company of Second Sons, her Horde of Dothraki Screamers, her Dornish and Ironborne Westerosi allies and her three full grown Dragons. It isn't until then that she has a fleet capable of getting all of her power and entourage to Westeros, AND most importantly of all, it isn't until after season five and six that she has all the hands-on experience necessary to be a competent ruler. Sure, she could have set sail at the end of season two or three, and she may have even been able to put up a good fight with her Unsullied Army, but there's no WAY she'd still be Queen by now, if she had even managed to somehow win the Throne from the Lannisters. We all spent YEARS getting all excited about her finally leaving for Westeros. Our patience wearing REALLY thin at some moments lol but it really isn't until we have the perspective of hindsight that it's possible to understand why we had to wait so long. There's really no point in suiting up or stepping out onto the field if you don't know how to play the game.

YOOOOO That maggy the frog scene is huge. Cersei is trying to have another child because she knows the prophecy forsaw Daenerys overtaking the thrown. Hear me out. Since she also found out she would only have three children, I believe she is trying to have a fourth child because if the child is born, it renders the prophecy false, and if the child isn't born that means it is prophecized that she will lose the throne to Daenerys anyway in which I'm sure she wouldn't even want to live anyway.

I have always felt that the Dragons reacted that way with Daenerys because they did not recognize her. She was afraid, of them. That whole Arc in Mareem was a little test of what it would be like to rule Seven Kingdoms when at that time she ruled only three and she was afraid of all the events that were happening during her short reign. It wasn't until the end of season 5 where she decided to faced the trials head-on. That's why I love that scene when she rides on Drogon towards the Armada and Viserion and Rhaegal just bust out of the Tomb with no help required, knowing that their Mother had truly returned.

Jimmy Dean Bowl I disagree. I don’t think he truly bent the knee to Daenerys and that whole scene was just off. Hahahha you guys saying "in the books" reminds me of all the convos I've had with my partner about the show. It's so hard not to compare them when you talk about the show though!

Stannis isn't dull, especially in the books where we get to see more of his thought process. The scene in A Clash of Kings where he's explaining to Davos why he's chosen to embrace Melisandre: "I trusted in his wisdom and your wiles, and what did they avail me, smuggler? A red hawk." -A Clash of Kings: Davos I

The actor who played Mance also played Caesar in HBO’s Rome. If he’s cast in another HBO show he’s going to be horribly murdered.

MANDELA EFFECT WARNING: You ABSOLUTELY talked about the significance of the Maggy the Frog intro being a cold opening in a video I just recently watched and now I can't find any existence of it. WTF?

I haven't gotten this far with Stannis in the books, I'm nearly finishing the second book, but I still enjoyed Show Stannis. Even when Shireen gets sacrificed. I obviously hate the idea of him killing his daughter, but I very much defend him for it. I'll explain why when we get to that episode. Wish Mance would've survived longer too, him and Jon as allies would've been great to watch, tho Jon and Tormund is pretty good too.

I miss Young Griff and it would have been awesome to see his casting, but I really don’t think it would have worked in the show.
