Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe, super-charged by human-caused warming. According to Michael Mann, presidential distinguished professor at the University of Pennsylvania, the upcoming presidential race will not only determine the fate of democracy but also the future of our planet. With Project 2025, the conservative playbook for the next Republican president, looming over the race, another Trump presidency would guarantee the dismantling of federal climate and environmental policies. Polluters have a wishlist, warns Mann. “They didn’t accomplish everything they hoped to in Trump’s first term,” he says. “They’re going to make sure to accomplish them in a prospective second Trump administration.”

When money is the most important thing, anything else that gets in the way becomes expendable. Persons, places or things. Meanwhile you can plant as many trees around you as possible. The food kind, berries, stone fruits, apples. Set up rain collection barrels at rain downspouts. Ride your bike everywhere you can. Plant a garden where your lawn is. Buy from thrift stores first. Do not waste anything. Drive less/combine trips. In other words stop being a mindless consumer all of the time.

Reducing your own emissions is not the best way to fight climate change. The results won't mean much when your neighbor undoes all of what you have done much more quickly, it can help but it will not save the planet. The best way is to vote, speak to people, on the internet, around you, educate, not waste time on building rain collection.

You can add to that eat less meat. It takes far far more resources for meat than it does for plant food. One example is it takes $5,000 gallons of water to make 1 lb of beef. Also try to buy your food more locally farmers markets fruit stands . I don't know. Maybe nothing will help. It doesn't seem like people are understanding the connection between who is in office and what is done about this very serious problem. And there's so much resistance to any information that you try to convey.

A good time to be old and childless. I rest easy knowing that I have condemned no human beings to the hellish future that is coming (getting some previews this year). More CO2 into the atmosphere this year than last. More next year than this and even more the year after. As a 64-year-old single man with no children, I feel the same way. I am bewildered that couples are still bringing children into this world at this most dangerous time. The biggest problem is that, most citizens of rich countries are not willing to make sacrifices in order to cut emissions, even though more and more of them have suffered in one way or another , the terrible effects of climate change. Most US voters see the price of eggs as something immensely more important than climate change, and they believe that trump will somehow fix this, because “things were better when he was president”. @@bethanyhealy4989it sounds like you might be one that cares about climate change. You can go look up if you aren't too biased to do so. The things that he has done including tax breaks for electric vehicles. Some progress And keep in mind the house is not on board so how did he do that without the house voting on it because they blocked just about everything he puts out there . I answered another one of your posts? Do you not understand that everything that has been done so far which is actually not enough to mitigate what Will according to just about every scientist, a huge disaster for the entire species. Trump will undo. How is that a good thing? Do you not realize that he also has a private jet? And all his billionaire friends his buddies that he gives tax breaks to they all have Jets. He also wants to deregulate and eventually dismantle the oversight organizations like the EPA. It's already started that Chevron decision has laid the groundwork for that. You think you have problems now at the border? Just wait until all those people in that part of the world are experiencing even more record heat than they are now, And the crops that are being grown to feed the world, do you understand that they are dependent on the weather? Farmers are already having to adjust how they raise crops because of what is happening with the climate change. Do you want to see worldwide famine? Do you like food?? Because without the oversight organizations to make sure your food is safe, The latest decision just weakened that as well, just hope you have food when climate change gets worse. Oh I'm sorry I mentioned scientists in this post. You probably don't believe experts and scientists you believe politicians over scientists so strike the whole post. It's meaningless if you are a science denier. Doesn't mean it's not going to happen. But here's one you can see with your eyes and ears. Bees how long has it been since you've seen a bee? I was around in the '60s. I grew up in the '60s and I remember seeing bees all the time. We stepped on them in the yard when we were playing. I've seen one bee and I don't know how long maybe years. It is documented that bees in steep decline. Here's a little bit of science for you. Bees pollinate crops. Without bees we literally have 4 years left of food unless we figure out a different way to pollinate.

@@bethanyhealy4989 that's the point of climate action. To spend some effort now so we don't have to face catastophic consequences and much bigger life and economic damage later. Preventing further damage now is immensly cheaper than facing with the consequences later and having to build the infrastructures to sustain our lives in a much more dangerous world. We cannot move millions of people and expect them all to survive or not fall into absolute poverty. Maybe even billions at one point. We can still prevent the change from being too drastic to survive. If you bothered reading what the opposition has to say, you would know there are already plans to sustain the economy for a green transition. Carbon tax, incentives, central banks and economic task forces dedicated to the transition, plans to protect all social classes according to their needs as much as possible, are just an example. Maybe it's not enough, but it's definetly better than doing nothing or claiming it's useless just to keep our beds warm (or cool in this case) for a little longer. Sacrifices have to be made, but those sacrifices are a much better alternative to the consequences. Letting the weak die and get much more poor in the future because the higher classes did not want to sacrifice their precious profit margins is a dystopian outcome, and it is exactly what has been happening for decades. An industrial revolution defined by automation is likely coming soon. We can take that opportunity to change a lot of things about how we approach issues and distribute resources. The best time to act is now, not in a decade.

We are past the tipping point stage so now have to suffer the consequences of being human. Much has been discussed and said about turning this around but very very little has been done. To change minds and instigate action it will take a palpable hardship and that is going to be famine. As crops fail and population continues to soar above our planet's carring capacity we will ALL feel it but it will be too late to call back. Oh but it is. What was May? Only the 12th consecutive month in which it was hotter than the last. That means a full year of increasing heat. However, sections of Antarctica are breaking off due to melting. The Arctic is so ice free Russia is looking to take parts of it over while cruise ships (unheard of) ply its waters. What hit Florida. Five hundred inches of rain. Hmmmm. Once in a life time. Well here up in the water drenched north thanks to heat domes pushing the jet stream persistently over our area (also unheard of) we barely missed over 150mm of rain in a single 6 hour period. I realisze the maxim but in short to many variables are arguing against you and in favor of MSNBC. Oh we haven't spoken at length about the migrations of animals and plants that enjoy more tropic conditions moving north. Arctic foxes being forced ever north by brown foxes who enjoy warmer conditions. Oh and black widow spiders who now flourish in Southern Ontario. Did I tell you trumpeter swans that are more used to the US south for breeding are now turning up in numbers in the great Canadian North. Or that polar bears that need pack ice for hunting are finding less of it to thrive on. Or walrus that no longer have ice to rest on and must overpopulate islands killing themselves because they are pushed too close together. I don't know as where I live we are too busy dealing with infestations of wood and deer ticks enjoying all those heat domes and heat waves . Not too mention all those nice forest fires eating up the landscape and pushing people out of their homes. Guess its Just a trail of bread crumbs leading down the heat trail

@@professorakiba434 Just let it happen, Canada is in a good spot to sit this out. The USA will suffer sure, but who really cares? They don't, so why should Canada? If they need water, Canada will sell them water, if they need food, Canada will sell them food, if they need energy Canada will sell them energy. Well, if they have the gold to pay for it, since paper USD will be nearly worthless..

We literally are in a spot where climate change is irreversible. So he was right. What we can do is maybe become carbon negative through some sort of miracle and absorb the CO2 back, which seems not plausibe at all. Best we can do is not make it worse.

Well in all reality ICV to EV is really the 2nd best option. The best option is to reduce ICV utilization in urban environments and maximize utilization of public transportation systems and social urban design. This actually breeds a ton of additional benefits that in many ways could outweigh the impact of emissions reduction. BUT it requires a fundamental redevelopment of basically every major city in the US and with the current state of millions of municipal, district, city, local and county laws it would take far too long to actually achieve this by long term deadlines to address climate change. This is why transition to EVs is far more popular.

Well, when the US Govt. decides to give every low paid worker who depends on their 2006 Toyota Corolla a brand new Hybrid Toyota the whole plan might work. For example, how do four lowly paid workers sharing a house somewhere in Southern California/Los Angeles get to work at 5am without relying on their gasoline powered cars? Don't say buy 4 Nissan Leafs because only one of those cars will get charged overnight. This is but one example of why Biden's plan is a crock of soft material.
