Since the making of this video (11 months ago) I have now added a Saturn to my collection, along with 30 games so far. It's a great system and I hope to one day add the rarest RPG to my collection: Panzer Dragoon Saga! I'd love to play it.

@7711GHOST11771 - It's been my experience that the SNES lasts longer, because the cartridge slot doesn't have any moving parts. The original breadbox NES is slot loading and almost every one of them will get the dreaded blinking red or blue lights when you try to use it. I have 3 original NES consoles, and none of them work right now. You could just get the Retron3 clone system, which allows you to play NES, SNES and Genesis/MegaDrive games!

Hey Metal Jesus, don't know if this was addressed, but as an audiophile, the reason why I like the SCPH-1001 Playstation is that it has a great D/A converter for CD playback. the direct RCA outputs make it more convenient and offer a cleaner audio signal out to my receiver/amp. some modders have even installed higher output capacitors on the signal end to have a more powerful signal output from the RCA. I use mine with a PS2 DVD remote to use it as a standalone CD player. :)

@mattthehandsome - That's a tough question, because everybody has their own definition of "retro". For me, retro is technically the Atari 2600, which is what I loved as a kid. However, most people would agree that the Super Nintendo or Genesis are great to start with because they did 2D games so well, and there are hundreds of great titles to choose from! Since you are in the US, I would recommend checking out what is available cheap on Craigslist to start. Good luck!

@MetalJesusRocks All of the games were broadcast for a short time so you can't actually collect for it. Most of them were very different remixes of NES and SNES games like Zelda and Fire Emblem. If you're up for the trouble of finding the SNES roms and emulating them you'll have some fun games to play. I've got a soft spot for Japanese games so I've spent some time looking into everything that wasn't brought here.

Ugh, seeing all those boxes, carts, and disc jewel cases so faded really breaks my heart. Come on man, you gotta box everything and keep the games in binders or shelves (well, you got half of that part right). This is like the first thing you learn in retro game collecting 101!

I just noticed this comment of yours. I'm not a game collector really, though I do pick up odds and ends of games I like. Let me say that it's easy to forget that people like MetalJesus collect all of these games over many years. We're talking 10, 20, 30 years or more. Don't try to match these guys you see on KZbin by spending all of your money buying up everything as quickly as possible. Collect as you can, finding super cheap deals. Visit yard sales, thrift stores, and GoodWills.
