If you are going to send a console generation out with a bang you could do worse than Ghost of Tsushima - like Last of Us 2 for instance. This may be my most positive sin video ever, which means it probably sucks since no one likes it when I'm nice to a game. I counted its sins regardless though.

Benjamin Gillman perhaps but Taka literally says upon you gaining consciousness that, “you were gone for so long” which implies that he didn’t immediately go back but waited a good while for Jin to come back. So whether or not the player takes out the mongols that chase him, he comes back regardless and gets caught. Now if, let’s say, he said that he was captured while on his way back to camp, or that the guys he was distracting caught him, I would be surprised that he was caught.

The reason why Shimura is angry at Jin at the end, is because he taught the commoners how to stand up and fight. The Samurai's are the elites and aristocracy. They're the ones who protects the people and in return the have obedience and loyalty from those commoners. But Jin not only taught those commoners how to fight, he killed the Khan without even relying on the Samurais. With the commoners now armed for battle, loyal to the Ghost like he's their lord, will those commoners obey the Shogunate and the Samurais ? I don't think so. This is the reason why Jin's status as a Samurai is removed, and a new Lord will take his place. There are hints of this during the game, even Samurais from the mainland want to reinstore the Samurai political power and ask Jin to forget about the Ghost because they fear commoners will lose respect in the Samurais.

This has to be your best video yet. Though I will say this, I think you miss the point of three key scenes. The sin you mention where Jin takes issue with Shimura sending men to die at his castle but not taking issue with the battle of Komoda Beach ignores Jin's character development and the scene's context. At the beginning of the game, Jin thinks that the men going to die will receive an honorable death. And that the only option, the honorable option is to charge into battle head-on. At this point, because Yuna has convinced Jin to think outside the box and consider dishonorable methods, he sees another way that could solve their mongol problem without adding to the Japanese death toll. Jin seeing his Uncle go for an option that will lead to more casualties is what causes him to say that Shimura sent his men to die. Because Shimura would sooner protect his honor than his own men. Second, there are numerous moments where Shimura is shown to be quite the hypocrite, what with his connection to Goro, a pirate, as well as his willingness to blame Yuna for Jin's actions. It speaks to the fact that, as Sensei Ishikawa says in one of his missions, "You shouldn't expect every samurai to perfectly embody honor." Third is the reason that the Shogun wants Jin dead. During the final mission, Shimura makes plainly clear that it isn't about honor anymore, it's about classism. The shogun is worried about the public no longer looking to the samurai for aid. It's about the elite (the samurai) being afraid of a revolt (brought on by Jin's actions as the Ghost). So they want Jin dead to make an example to the people not to revolt against the ruling class.
@vaughnrobbins9771
@vaughnrobbins9771 3 жыл бұрын
but jins a samurai, he reinforces the idea that samurai protect their people, and that they should be looked on favorably and with respect. the shogun must have an extra chromosome because taking away jins status as a samurai is what creates the issue of making the samurai look weak/ incapable of defending their people. Also the only way the shogun would even know about the poison would be if shimura ratted out his own nephew, which is just like, wtf dude? Shimura is just way too damn rigid even for a character who is supposed to be overly rigid.
@EntertainmentExpertz
@EntertainmentExpertz 3 жыл бұрын
@@vaughnrobbins9771 Except the Samurai are expected to live by their code. And Jin does not. No amount of justification will make up for the fact that his ignoring of Shimura's orders and poisoning of the Mongols is a BLATANT act of disrespect to samurai as well as their code. By this logic, the shogun, and by extension Shimura are saying, "You are making the commoners lose respect for the samurai and their code! Giving them ideas about fighting for themselves! And if they don't look to us for aid! What's to stop them from overthrowing us! Especially when they adopt your dishonorable methods!" Also Shimura wasn’t the only one who knew about the poison. Remember that the Shogun’s men entered the scene with him, seeing the carnage that Jin caused against the mongols.
@EntertainmentExpertz
@EntertainmentExpertz 3 жыл бұрын
Super JLK that’s the thing, the shogun’s fear is overpowering his reason. He’s afraid of a peasant’s revolt and sees Jin as the face of it, because he’s gained the love and respect of the people. The shogun sees a threat to the samurai’s power and wants it taken out. Obviously we don’t see a lot of civilians joining the fight against the mongols, but the shogun doesn’t care. As far as he’s concerned, Jin’s their leader.

It’s true, I think the main “insult” from Jin wasn’t even his supposed “lack of honor”, it was his disobeying and being loved by the people, thus bringing power back into the hands of the common folk when they realize they don’t really need the samurai. That was the real threat, shimura’s reprimand about lack of honor is just excuses and him being upset that he’s been outranked by his nephew who openly disobeys him.

00:54 Dartigan immediately assumes he knows that the Japanese never battled at night. During the actual Mongol invasions of Japan, the Japanese would launch raids during the night to attack Mongol ships. Usually to set them ablaze. In 1576, Oda Nobunaga attacked Uesagi Kenshin at night with 30,000 men. The 47 Ronin, one of Japan's favorite tales ... the ronin attacked at night. This took me all of 5 minutes to fact check as it's a pretty ridiculous claim that no armies attack at night.

I’m going to give what I hope is a reasonable explanation for sin 67. Jin is able to use the poison to instantly kill someone because Yuriko taught him the extreme dosage needed for lethality. But since the Mongols had to reverse engineer it themselves with no sample, I think it’s safe to assume that the dosage they made is not potent enough to kill someone instantly, but is still a lethal amount. If I remember correctly, none of the Japanese people we see get poisoned die instantly, and I think it’s because of that smaller dosage. I also theorize that the mongols didn’t know exactly what flower to use for the poison, and so used the people of Kin as a testing ground, seeing which plant gave the same effects as Jin’s poison.

Yuriko’s story is a bit disturbing once you put the pieces together. After Jin’s mother died, Yuriko (her sister) took her place as a surrogate mother for Jin. It is implied that she took Jin’s father to a nearby hot spring and she even said being with him made her happy. She even says she’s unsure if that makes her a bad pardon. It gets weirder once her Alzheimer’s sets in and she mistakes Jin for his father, as she leads him to the same hot spring; asking for some food shortly after. At least they didn’t go any further, and she just wanders off again.

Sin 52: I know these sins are mostly memes. But there was a very interesting dialogue in the game in which Jin mentions he marched alone with Shirmura in the end and he was fully expecting to die, and then he mentions that way of thinking was the easy way. This was one of the first dialogues that showed Jin started to embrace the Ghost. So yeah, back then Jin didn’t have time to complain since he didn’t even expect to live another day during the 80 samurai battle.

The Camera was incovenient at times but for me it just added to the challenge of reacting to multiple enemies. Plus i think a lock on will take away from the fluidity of the sword play when having to switch stances. The enemy has the right to be able to dodge out the way of our strikes. Politically, the shogun's decision makes sense. As Shimura explains, Jin has taught the people of Tsushima that defying the samurai can benefit them. @@filipmajewski8382 To the game's credit, that works and does nicely bring into question the long term consequences of Jin's actions. I'm just saying trying to have him killed is a risk play since it could pretty easily turn a war hero into a martyr for further rebellion. - Also, I might be a bit annoyed with how Jin's uncle really didn't help the situation by stubbornly sticking to the samurai code. Khan even states that Jin was the only threat because, unlike his uncle, he was willing to fight dirty and not hamstring himself by only fighting head on. If Jin had let his uncle take the lead, they honestly probably would have lost (again).

Appreciate the video. Some interesting points. The only one I wanted to correct you in was ‘Tachi’ and ‘Katana’. You said katana were not invented until after Gengou (the Mongol invasion). The words Tachi and Katana are not names of swords, but the mounts used for long swords of 60cm or more in length. Tachi slings the sword by a cord from the waist with cutting edge downward, whereas Katana mounts have the sword in the waist belt with cutting side up (or Uchigatana). Both Tachi AND Katana were made and in use during the Kamakura period (when GoT was set), and both were also used afterwards, up to the 19th century. When Tachi blades were shortened to the point that its original tang almost disappears, it becomes a katana. No disrespect, but this point seems to come up in many YT vids.

What would make khan think make them surrender is gonna work.? second , mongol mindset is that you surrender or murdered... If samurai not willing to surrender, why bother with them anymore? thats the reality of mongol Again ,let's say if he conquer tsushima quickly with murdering all jito , including jin , then it would be easier for him to reach the mainland , and he will done the same when he reach mainland .... murdering the jito , and you gonna see the other jito surrender to him (because the situation is getting worse and they dont have another choice) then he owns japan , and it's a lot easier to revolt kublai khan with japan in his own hands. mc need plot armor , but you have to make it convincing ... like you are get poisoned and get shot by 2 frickin arrow and you are still alive is just way too convenient, hence we call it plot armor , how the mc is still alive its not natural and way too convenient..

So fucking tired of people putting "no lock on" as a con. This game was not designed for a lock on system. It wouldnt have worked. It litterally would have made the combat worse if it had a lock on mechanic. If you have trouble pointing your control stick in a direction you want to swing, thats more your problem. Not the combat system's. As for the camera, specifically in tight spaces, that point is valid. But the frequency of fights where you are forced to fight in tight spaces is so low as to be basically more of an ocassional annoyance than any serious flaw.
@michaelnewton1754

I agree that the lack of hard-lock was a great choice, and I mostly loved the way they used L to aim your swings. Still, the soft lock could use a bit of tweaking. There were more than a few times I aimed towards the only enemy on that side of the screen, and had Jin swing next to them instead of at them
@tonsofamateurgaming296
@tonsofamateurgaming296 3 жыл бұрын
Just because you couldn't think of how to make it work, doesn't mean there wasn't a way to make it work. You liked the lack of lock on and many people agree. Many other people didn't like it and for good reason(s) whether you would agree or not. What doesn't make sense is assuming that all the gamers _(of which there are many)_ that recognized and didn't overlook the flaws in the system just had trouble with the stick and or broken controllers. In systems like this one, it is common for the character to not target who you were aiming at and sometimes glitch to the point of targeting people nowhere near. It happens. Not enough to to make the game unplayable/unenjoyable, but enough for most to notice it.

Only The Surge (2) improved it, others were straight up copying it. It’s slow, boring, mind-numbing, is just a waste of time and doesn’t work well outside of From’s games, because it wasn’t fucking created by any of them. Also, I heard some series called “God of War” never had any lock-on features and been doing fucking awesomely for more than a decade now... There is also this whole genre called “slasher”.

I think the reason jin wasn’t as afflicted by the poison as others were is because he most likely developed a resistance to it by administering small doses of it to build a tolerance. I read a story of a man that made a poison that would knock you out before killing you, and bear in mind this story was made ages ago, so don’t take it that it happened in modern time. One day, a rival came to his house seeking revenge. I don’t remember what it was that drove him to try to kill the guy, it was probably for sleeping with his wife or something. One thing lead to another, and the bad guy managed to get the poison maker to drink some of the poison. The bad guy left, thinking he won, and the poison maker woke up hours later, as he was already immune to the poison and was simply sleeping.

That being said, that stigma is tied to the presentation of a warrior's honor in Bushido, which Dartigan pointed out didn't exist yet, so that's a tough call.

Katana is worn blade up ( like in game ) and Tachi is worn blade down. But if you had it Tachi way with Tachi techniques, you wouldn't be able to do those awesome stand-offs, because that IAI slash from the sheath wouldn't be either possible or invented yet.

I don't know how accurate that is, given the mystery around the invasion and historical accounts mixing myth with fact, but it's probably what the devs found when researching it. Either way, it lends to a more dramatic opening and was probably more of an artistic choice rather than based on fact.

That is a very good point about Yuna choosing Jin for no reason. She had no reason to believe that Jin specifically would even think to trust her, given that she is a thief by trade, and all the haughty honor-focused samurai would think they're too good to help someone like her. I guess the whole "save this blacksmith and he'll repay you with better weapons" argument could work, but Jin seemed to have the added incentive of repaying Yuna for saving him--an opportunity that would've been hard to quickly come by from other surviving samurai. What I mean is that in the event that Yuna never met Jin, or if Jin died on that beach, she would've had to ask a different samurai like Ishikawa or Masako, and I doubt they would've cared about helping her because of their personal problems.

I think it's fair to assume Taka was captured in the early hours of the invasion, which prompted Yuna to check out the beach where the invasion began, and thus found Jin after checking several other dead samurai. Still far-fetched obviously, as it means Jin was lying on the shores severely wounded for anywhere between half a day or even a full day before Yuna dragged him to the village she was hiding out in. Also, there are some legends about the art of setting swords aflame, though I think it was said the blades were designed to handle being on fire, whereas the game just lets almost any bladed weapon be capable of the technique.

Yeah the first sin deduction was ON POINT. That's what I to say whenever I see someone blaming Sucker Punch for cultural appropriation. We would never see a game like this from a Japanese studio.

What if as you play the game you had two options one as playing as the ghost and the other honoring the samurai way. If you played as the ghost killing people from behind and using poison you unlocked the ghost skills and if you played as a samurai honorable and always facing your enemy head on you unlocked better samurai skills. Each choice giving you a different ending that could’ve been cool in my opinion.

They don’t even say the word katana, but in the Japanese dub, Yuna says Tachi for the blade.
