I was actually one of those die-hards who bought the greatest hits version of B3 even though I owned the original game. I also sent in that copy to Atari after finding out it didn't have the Trunks costume that I so desperately needed. Waited pretty much the entire summer till it came back to me. Would check the mail everyday hoping it would come for like 3 months. Then it finally did. I booted it up, played a few matches with the new costume and decided I liked the original costume better. Good times.

Personally I always thought and believed that Pan was a super hidden character because I saw the voice cast list had Pan in it but I did not realize that the Voice actor for Pan only did the voice in the Settings menu

@ I don't think you know either. you are going off of this stereotype that Japan takes voice actor roles so serious, that if a VA dies the country has to lower it's flag and cancel the show n shit. but they replace voice actors like everyone else does, and they've already done it with over a handful of characters. it's very important to them yes, but there's no reason to assume they don't replace VAs if for some reason the original isn't around. especially because evidence says otherwise

Fun fact: The original DBZ Budokai trilogy music was replaced with Budokai Tenkaichi in the HD version, due to the original composer's renditions are blatant knockoffs to other songs from artists like Journey, Black Sabbath, and Stratovarius. The heat was so bad, it was taken to court. My only defense to the plagiarist is that he has good taste in music.

This is not true, nobody sued Kenji Yamamoto or Toei because of plagiarism and there never was a legal action of any sorts, Toei knew since the '90 he was copying other artists in his compositions, but they never did something about it just because in Japan is kind-of normal to "plagiarize" something, as long you're not 100% stealing the source material, so he actually did nothing wrong for the Japanese market. The only thing that actually happened is that Toei fired Yamamoto some time after DBZ Kai was aired in USA, because of some BGM used were too similar to Avatar's soundtrack, likely because DBZ Kai was a big success in the USA, way bigger than Japan since it flopped there... When the USA market became more important than the Japanese one, they had to adapt themselves to the more profitable market, that's why they fired Kenji Yamamoto and replaced the score, nobody had problems with the soundtrack in the Budokai series, Kenji was actually friend with most of the musicians "plagiarized" by him, some of them actually even helped him in making the soundtrack for Budokai 2. There's really no good reason of keep shitting on him, he lost his job because Toei had to change their corporate policies in favor of the United States, that was bad luck for him and it doesn't actually deserve the bad reputation it got after they replaced the DBZKai soundtrack and fired him.

Fuck that shit. Those songs were so memorable & even sometimes better than what was heard on the television series. It's a shame they took them out. Budokai 1 was actually what got me into DBZ & those music composers made a huge impact on how the story & it's cool cut scenes were portrayed . Sometimes it sucks when courts get involved.

Why was she ultimately cut from the roster? Most likely, either time or money was running out, and she was the most cuttable character. They figured more fans would want to fight as Captain Ginyu or Cooler than Bulma. The cost of creating a character for a fighting game is more than just making the character's model, textures, and voice lines. You also need animations, and you need to design their moves, and you need to make sure everything works well, both in a balance sense (e.g, Bulma's unique moves can't be too game-breaking or useless) and in a technical sense. Judging by what happens when two Bulmas fight using otherwise-polished animations and movesets, it doesn't take a genius to guess that they didn't have enough QA resources to finish Bulma _and_ all the other characters.

You cannot use something enabled via a cheat device as a reason for why a character wasn't implemented. It doesn't take a real genius to come to the conclusion that the code swapping the models wasn't meant to support two Videls. Such issues pop up all the time when using cheat devices like that--and this is coming from experience using them. Also, and this is more personal than technical, Budokai was far from a title aiming to be balanced. This is a game where cheese is encouraged, where characters who start at a 'higher' form like Omega Shenron are overwhelmingly more powerful than even Goku. Having just about all of your ki bars being natural rather than increased via transformations itself is inherently gamebreaking. It was a good fighting game, but it was never meant to be a competitive and balanced fighting game. And when you speak about 'useless', you are clearly ignoring Hercules whose inclusion in the games has some of the most useless specials aside from one or two--joke character or not. Something like Street Fighter never handicaps Dan Hibiki to the degree you see Hercule get. It is clear Bulma was cut late into development, likely before they went gold with the release. Her model is fully rendered to support the various angles attacks might show. There were lines ready and prepped for her. There are 40+ characters in its roster, many of which coming from earlier titles and re-using much of the assets and attack strings from the prior games. It is more likely she was cut because she wasn't worth delaying a release, or because quite frankly she has nothing to draw from the manga or anime for her attacks. Even Hercule, as minute a presence as he has when it comes to combat, still had plenty of material to draw from and use for a game. Like they said, Bulma has never participated in combat, has only ever truly 'struck' a character once--and that was in Battle of Gods/Super--and thus no material to do anything with.

Don't pick up the HD Collection. If you care for a good soundtrack it was replaced (as it was largely plagiarised in DB games from SNES to PS3 also DBKai) for that release.

They changed the soundtrack for both Budokai 1 and Budokai 3. IiRC, later prints of Raging Blast 2 (PS3) had the soundtrack changed and Bandai Namco replaced the soundtrack of Super Butoden 2 when it came with Extreme Butoden (3DS). You can expect all new prints of older games to have a new OST. If that's the only way you can play it and you aren't willing to go for a PS2 (which may be cheaper - I dunno). Fair enough, I just needed to make sure you are aware. Personally, Budokai 2 missing already annoyed me and I'd only give the collection a chance if it came to PC with mods to bring back the old OST and more.

They cut out lots of good stuff for the HD Double Feature: It's not a collection since B2 & Infinite World are there, replaced music, Gloss Shiny B3 Character models, cutting out Scenes from some Ultimate Moves. It does not deserve to be called a Collection hell it wasn't even DIMPS who worked on the Double Feature. You want it? Go ahead it's your choice but it won't have the same charm is all. I won't stop you since it's your choice. I'll never suggest to anyone nor even buy it for myself is where I stand.

I totally remember this mystery. So glad Game Sleuth decided to cover it. I hope that Game Sleuth covers 2 games that are part of the same series: Flying Dragon and SD Hiryu no Ken Densetsu (both of which are on the N64). In both of these games, there were items that were said to be impossible to obtain, and some would say that you could get them. In Flying Dragon, on the those items was the Armor of Ryutentaisei. In SD Densetsu, the item system was greatly expanded. When an item levels up, it could be blessed by a Spirit, which could change the item completely. Of those spirits, not much is completely known in getting Daimajin. I remember read and contributing to any discoveries about these game on Gamefaqs.

She was probably cut for time constraints. She was probably being tossed around as an alternative costume or separate character that used Videl's move set, but nobody could decide so the limited files were left in with no legitimate way to access them. Hence why her capsule exists AND the costume exists, but the costume uses Videl's voice instead of Bulma's.

this might sound crazy. But maybe she was created just to be a tutorial character? Maybe any extra voice clips, capsules, etc found in the game code, were place holders. just so her model can appear in the tutorial without any mishaps.

15:49 If you notice, sections of the model are mirroring the animations of the OPPONENT player. It's quite obvious that her character was not designed to fight herself. More specifically, I believe her design was never set up to allow two Bulmas on the screen at one time, as her model would only be used on the Opponent's user, as an NPC. Putting this model data on Videl and then having Bulma fight herself may be a relic that proves this. It could be possible that either, the game restricted the use of two models of Bulma on screen at one time, or perhaps it was never properly coded like a fighter character, for obvious reasons.

I actually bought the US 2nd "Greatest Hits" version of Dragon Ball Budokai 3 directly from Namco Bandai's website, so my version has English and Japanese voices plus those extra costumes from the Z3 Japanese version. Sadly when I moved to Taiwan I had to throw out the box, but I still have the disc in my CD case.

Budokai 3 in general was supposed to have much more things in it than it already had. Due to time mostly they couldn't put all of it in the game. Another reason why fighters Z is sooo good & successful is because they had like 5 years to work on it plus DLC where as Budokai 3 they only had like 2 years

In Canada, we pronounce Z as zed but for Dragonball Z, it's always been zee. it's just funny to hear it that way for this instance.

Same with the UK. It can't be helped when the people in charge of the voiced localisations tell their Canadian and American voices to pronounce it that way. I assume it was a marketing thing to appeal to the States.

The silence after he said ZED made it really funny and kinda awkward x) I guess because I am so used to Zee where the pronunciation sounds longer so it sounds really weird saying it like that. x)

Good episode, but the new thumbnail design is not so good. The video almost went unnoticed in my sub box due to the thumbnail not having the huge GAME SLEUTH logo on it.
