I was surprised to see the Squid Girl outfit as gear in the first Splatoon game though because it could also be a theory that Squid Girl is indeed the first Inkling to exist before The Great Flood.

@@m_pot I’m not sure, I honestly think that Inklings began shifting to swimming in there ink much more then swimming in the see since salmonoid attack, to the point where they shrivel and die in the water before salmonoids can get to them because how sensitive they grew. Or the water in turf wars and salmon run are more harsh then waters like New Albacore and Mahi Mahi Resort. ((That was all head canons lol))

@@elscruffo2264 In my opinion, the canon lore is way more fun and easy to understand! Sunken scrolls state inklings have a full skeletal structure made of flexible cartilage and very good adapted eye sight after hundreds (because of RNA) of years of evolution. Octolings are the same, but reproductive systems are different, where as inkings have sexual intercourse, while octolings cut of tentacles from their head and grow it. The reason they evolved into bipeds that can switch between forms was because a nuclear bomb was launched at a base in Antarctic during WWV (World War 5), melting all of the ice there, causing tsunamis and flooding. The acidity of sea water was now that of tomato juice, so cephalopods decided to NOT die and evolved to live on land, giving them a natural weakness to water.

This theory also makes sense as kids would have no reason to become like squids, which aren’t as good as kids, but squids would need to become like people in order to really survive, and therefore makes this theory even more realistic

Actually, there's no reason Inklings would have the same facial expressions and gestures if they were originally squid. On the other hand, unscrupulous or innovative humans have plenty of ways to bypass evolution. Neoteny, pseudohair appendages, and a preference for human clothing would make me create a new theory: They aren't squid They aren't human They might be children Specifically, someone's genetic engineering project discovering a sense of identity and self direction with their keepers now long gone.

My game theory is that millions of years after mammal went extinct, squid managed to evolve into squid people and back. They started making structures and forming civilizations when they discovered how different coloured ink affected them. They started making weaponry and attacking each other trying to coverage much land as possible with their own ink varient. With Splatoon 2 a d the Octo expansion, they got an enemy. They were octopuses that had gone onto land but formed diffrently. They saw how the world now was about fighting and fought strong. Agents were sent out to stop them but scientists thought to create a better version and more human (well at this stage more inkling like) octonarians. They first had some that escaped but set the rest into war. Hope that makes sence. 😊

That would actually make sense, cuz ditto’s can transform into anything, so inklings are kind of like a ditto but its a squid (I like making things more logical than they need to be)

Splatoon 3 confirmed that the inklings and octolings had rapidly accelerated human-themed evolution because of crystals, (look up the alterna logs for elaboration). Inkling is a species of squid that can transform into a humanoid squid. They moved on to land after all of the humans died in a flood caused by themselves.

No, it’s not actually a post apocalypse. Just- tides going crazy from Antarctica being blown up. And melted. And now, squids rule the world. Their rng editing caused them to evolve, now they evolve from the squid form, to their inklings, and if they are inklings, they can morph back into their squid form to travel and collect ink. Octopuses are Octolings, different. Octolings have different eye masks that do not connect over the nose, so I will explain all inkling differences. Octolings and inklings do share some traits, such as being humanoid figures. Except, Octolings have their head suction cups on top of their hair, as, Inklings have their suction cups on the inside of their tentacle hair. Octolings, if you cut their hair, make Octo-Troopers. Also, inklings seem to use ink in tanks to shoot ink. Also, they have bones, but not bones. Cartilage. And yeah, this is super long. Eyes! Their eyes have special masks over them, that black stuff. It’s described as rough skin, and it serves as a mask over their eyes. I’m guessing a thin layer of special skin that filters light. They are both squids and kids, and octopus and kids. And it’s just not inklings and Octolings. There are shelled creatures, big buff creatures, and those spiky creatures. DON’T BLAME ME I FORGOT SOME STUFF 😢 anyways, Inklings and Octolings shoot ink at each other in turf wars. Turf wars are where two teams of four shoot different colored ink and cover as much surface as possible. Then Judd judges who wins. Winners have special animations too, which is awesome! Also squid form is just adorable not gonna lie. Also, Octolings were enemies at one point. Now they (mostly) live at peace with inklings. I’m not explaining the lore of Splatoon. Inklings and Octolings share a lot of traits, yet, they are different. So yeah!
