A few things, in the older animal crossing games you can’t just customize your character in a mirror, what about if you play multiplayer, obviously that other player character will be another human, some villagers have dialogue if you wear the animal costume associated with them where they comment that you’re dressed like them for example if you talk to kiki while wearing a cat costume

Well, there is literally a family tree in the museum that explains that the villagers are more "evolved" forms of our normal animals, or that at least they split somewhere in the tree from the "normal animals". There is even the fossil of a primate before the spot where your villager can pose. Basically they see less-evolved animals the same as we humans see monkeys.

I knew a demon wolf boy in college. He was in my economics class and he said he could also control the weather, but there were no windows and he was tired. He'd also have me read his smutty fanfiction in the library whenever class got out early. This was an awsome theory and loved to hear it! Games are a great means of escape and are going to be the aid to help teach children. Like for me growing up learning came from movies or books. Now as games start to be more prominent I wouldn't be surprised that in the future games have hidden lessons not just for theory channels like MatPat's but for future generations to learn about the world.

The Museum has an evolution section showing which animal evolves from which prehistoric animals. The outlines are the villager animals. Standing on two legs and all. The villagers will also sometimes refer to themself as the animal they are. A hamster villager when you place a hamster cage down has a pretty funny reaction to seeing it's tiny, uncivilized cousin.

Plot twist, the residents other than ourselves are science experiments and we, the player are the scientist conducting the experiments hence why the villagers don't say anything about you entering their house un announced. I always figured it was just a case of branched evolution - one branch in each of the species that exist as a sapient species diverged from the main lines ages ago, and evolved similarly to humans from that point on. The realistic animals still exist because they took a different path, one that paralleled our animals' evolutionary paths precisely.

The final room of the fossil museum tells as much in a beautifully subtle manner. All of the lines on the floor that represent the paths life took end in a line up of silhouettes of the villagers, with an empty spot for the player, showing that they evolved along side them.

The language that the animals speak in Animal Crossing is actually called "Animalese" (Please pardon my spelling) However, I heard that it is actually Japanese, sped up to a certain degree. Depending on the character, their voice can be higher pitched, or lower pitched.
