Expansion on this theory: zipper has been hired by your parents to keep Easter alive for you. It’d explain why he’s genuinely so annoyed to be there, if he was your father, you’d think he’d be a little less mean to you. I love your theories, but for this one, I might have a different conclusion. Although I don't really have a clue on who he might actually be, I do have a few hints on why he might not be the player's father: 1.) The letters from our mother gives us clues that the father lives with her, and never mentions anything about him being away. That being said, during March to April, her letters mention farewells (I'm going through everything from a Japanese gameplay perspective, because I am Japanese and the game originates from there) but afterwards, she writes about the father many times and indicates he's with her, suggesting he might not be running and hiding from debt collectors. 2.) The way the bunny speaks is very different from how the father sounds in his few letters. Now, the bunny is obviously making up a character to try to sound happy and cheery. However, even when he accidentally says something serious or off character, he does not sound like the father. The English version may make him seem older, but in the Japanese version, he actually sounds more like a youth. This is important because in the letters from the father, he sounds like a typical Japanese father: few words and, for a lack of a better word, manly. Or fatherly I suppose. The bunny displays none of these qualities, and I would think we'd at least get a hint of it when he's distressed or distracted. The way they speak is clearly different, almost complete polar opposites. This part might be hard to differentiate if you don't know Japanese. 3.) The way the bunny acts doesn't really make much sense if he was the father. When you do something out of the ordinary (or what he didn't predict you'd do) he gets confused or maybe you can describe that as flustered. He talks like he's talking with a script of some sort, likes those characters in costumes you might see trying to sell you a product for a particular business. When you do something unprecedented, he doesn't know what to do, as if his job didn't fill him in on what to do in that situation. If it was his father, then that shouldn't be a problem. Even, as you mentioned, the father might've been away (which may not be the case in regards to the mother's various letters mentioning the father being home), all fathers at least would know how to talk/act with their children. More likely, he's just working as a mascot character, that's his job. He doesn't like it, or at least is tired of it, thus you see him sighing and looking glum. Even the name Pyontaro sounds like a typical Japanese mascot name. Obviously I can't explain the reasonings behind other translations, and I cannot pinpoint who it might be, I think he might not be the father. But that's just my anti-theory.I apologize for the long comment! I love Matpat's theory though, so I'm definitely not against the idea!

S A honestly, with your last point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tom Nook hired a random person to be in that suit. He would act like that, under a script, complaining that they are tired, etc, if he was an employee (just like Phyllis...and me honestly) It’s probably just a non-essential character that shows up on the island ever until hired by Tom Nook to try and make the place more home for you since the residents didn’t have this guy there until you came around

This was really interesting to read, and certainly an angle I hadn't considered. Really I should, considering how much the way you are speaking reflects your circumstances in Japanese (who, what, where you are). With all that data included, it's probable that he is an unrelated person to the already established characters, but it's possible that whoever Zipper is that he is still considered an outcast. That theme is still consistent even without the father angle, though it does make an interesting question about what his motivations for the whole egg day thing would be. Though, my money is just on that he is an outcast because he is a weirdo and part of that weirdness is an obsession with putting eggs into trees.

I've heard Zipper say that 'this job doesnt pay him enough' under his breath, something along those lines anyways... so he's being paid for doing this bunny day event. So perhaps not the characters dad? Edit: i'd also like to add that Zipper is rude and lowkey hostile when the player looks at his back, and calls the player a kid under his breath but not in an endearing way, in a condescending way. He gives off the vibes of a stressed guy who just hates everyone and his job and the player is just annoying to him. Another edit lol: what if the reason Zipper asks the player to keep him a secret from the others is because he doesnt want to deal with more people? The player is the only one who actually goes up to talk with him for his activities, and he has to provide his bunny services to the player as we are his customer.
